This charming, small campground offers a unique blend of rustic simplicity and thoughtful amenities, making it an ideal stop for an overnight rest or a peaceful longer stay. Nestled discreetly, it provides a welcoming haven right off one of the nation's most beloved rail-trails.
Steamboat Junction Campground is celebrated by visitors for its exceptional cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere. The owner is highly praised for taking "good care of the place" and ensuring "everyone to enjoy themselves." From the "cleanest Porta potty I've ever seen" to "nice showers," the attention to detail in maintaining facilities is evident. The "self check-in" system offers convenience, and the availability of "cold drinks" and snacks (often on an honor system) is a "great blessing" for weary travelers. Despite being near a highway and train tracks, noise is minimal, allowing for a surprisingly "quiet" and "comfortable" stay. Its affordability is also a significant draw, making it an accessible option for many outdoor adventurers. This campground perfectly balances essential comforts with a natural, serene environment.
Steamboat Junction Campground is conveniently situated at 199 MO-94, Rhineland, MO 65069, USA. This location places it directly on the Katy Trail, specifically in the Bluffton area, between the towns of Mokane and Hermann. Rhineland itself is a small community in Montgomery County, part of Missouri's scenic river hills wine country. The campground's position is ideal for those traversing the Katy Trail, offering a perfect mid-point rest stop with easy access to the trail's continuous path.
Accessibility to Steamboat Junction Campground is one of its strong suits, particularly for those utilizing the Katy Trail. It's located just off Missouri Route 94, making it easily reachable by car for those driving in with RVs or heading directly to the campground. For cyclists and hikers, the direct access from the Katy Trail means you can simply "make the short walk back down to the entrance" from the trail itself. The design of the campground, with pull-through sites for RVs, suggests ease of navigation even for larger vehicles. While some cell service might be spotty at individual campsites, a short walk back to the entrance area typically resolves this, ensuring connectivity when needed. Its convenient location also places it approximately "10 miles west of the junction of Missouri routes 19 and 94" and about "12 miles from the charming wineries, coffee shops, and other attractions of historic Hermann," making it a great base for exploring the wider region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Yes this place is very nice very clean he takes good care of the place and once everyone to enjoy themselves the cleanest Porta pot I've ever seen nice shower and you can't beat the price for 10 bucks for camping that's $20 for water and Electric I would recommend this to anyone like somebody commented in the same it's a Hidden Gem along the Katy Trail
October 05 · tony maxamI stayed at this camground this past weekend while doing an overnight Katy Trail hike. It was a great spot to rest! The self check in was simple, and the cold drinks were a great blessing. The campground was clean and comfortable. The only noise in the campground was highway noise (and not much of that) and you could hear the train periodically. Neither of these were much of a factor but thought I'd mention it anyway. I was the only camper until about nightfall when a second person arrived. My expectations were that it would be quite busy with summertime, but the solitude was just another plus. One other thing to note was that I had no cell service at my campsite. If you need a signal you can just make the short walk back down to the entrance and you're in business. Great experience and I look forward to stopping by again sometime!
August 20 · Matt Wright MusicThis place is great. Owner run. 4 pull through RV spots with 30amp and water. Level spots under a canopy of walnut trees.
September 24 · L C CGreat, quite little campground. We cane at a great time of year and the weather was perfect.
May 20 · Sara DodsonThe owner wasn't here when we stopped by, and with no signs directing us to the campground we were a bit confused at first. Almost rode on but then I hiked up the hill and past the barns and found the beautiful little clearing in the woods. We had the whole place to ourselves. Spotless porta potty, super clean shower with tons of hot water, as quiet as it with just some owls and barking foxes. Would absolutely camp there again if we ride the Katy again. And only $10! About the only negative would be the lack of cell coverage there, but that's not always a bad thing!
