4.0
Fantastic adventure. We spent the day at the Nature Center and had a blast. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our Grandies enjoyed the exhibits and the amazing play areas. The conditions of the exhibits and pathways was excellent and the admission was fairly priced. Unfortunately when we got home, we realized that my husband left his wallet there. They staff was extremely accommodating in assuring we got it back. All in all, we created wonderful memories and hope to return. - Kim Pierpont

It’s the perfect destination for those seeking peace, natural adventure, and a deep connection with New Hampshire’s magnificent Lakes Region.

Squam Lakes Camp Resort, managed by the Squam Lakes Association (SLA), is praised by visitors for its "fantastic adventure" and the pristine conditions of its natural surroundings. While not a typical resort with extensive recreational facilities on-site, its strength lies in the unparalleled access it provides to the natural wonders of Squam Lake and the surrounding area. Visitors rave about the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the positive experiences often extend beyond the campsite itself. As one happy guest shared, after a wonderful day at the nearby Nature Center, the staff's accommodating nature, even when a wallet was left behind, underscored their commitment to guest satisfaction. Location and Accessibility

Squam Lakes Camp Resort is uniquely located at 1002 NH-25 Suite A, Holderness, NH 03245, USA. However, it’s crucial for New Hampshire locals to understand that this address leads to the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) Resource Center, which serves as the primary access point and hub for the campsites. The actual campsites are situated on islands or remote shoreline areas of Squam Lake, making this a distinct type of camping experience: boat access only for most sites.

Campers must either bring their own boat (motorized or non-motorized) or rent one from the SLA or other local marinas to reach their reserved campsite. The SLA Resource Center on Route 3 in Holderness provides boat launching facilities for canoes, kayaks, sailboats, and motorboats of 25 hp or less. Larger boats must launch from the public boat ramp in Holderness. Parking for overnight campers, including boat trailers, is available and free of charge at the main SLA building. This unique accessibility ensures a more secluded and truly immersive natural experience, as the campsites are tucked away from road noise and crowds. Its location in Holderness also places it within easy reach of other Lakes Region attractions and services, making it a convenient hub for exploring the wider area while maintaining a sense of wilderness solitude at your campsite.

Services Offered

Squam Lakes Camp Resort, operating under the Squam Lakes Association, provides essential services geared towards a rustic yet responsible camping experience. As a conservation-focused organization, the emphasis is on minimizing impact while providing necessary facilities for comfortable primitive camping.

  • Designated Tent Campsites: The resort offers a variety of designated tent campsites, including both small sites (typically for up to 6 people) and group sites (for up to 12 people). These sites are located on different islands or remote shoreline areas of Squam Lake, providing privacy and a genuine wilderness feel.
  • Tent Platforms (at some sites): To help prevent ground compaction and protect the natural environment, many campsites are equipped with raised wooden tent platforms. Campers are encouraged to use these platforms where provided.
  • Fire Rings: Each campsite includes a designated fire ring for campfires. It is crucial to note that campfires must be contained within these rings and completely extinguished. Campers are prohibited from gathering firewood at the site; firewood must be purchased locally (often available at SLA docks) to prevent the spread of invasive species.
  • Composting Toilets: Toilets (typically composting or pit-style) are provided at each camping area, offering basic sanitation facilities.
  • Boat Rentals: The Squam Lakes Association offers a fleet of canoes, kayaks, and other non-motorized boats for rent, providing convenient access to the lake and campsites for those who don't bring their own. Motorized boat rentals (up to 4 hp) are also sometimes available.
  • No Electricity or Running Water: It is important for campers to be prepared for a primitive experience. There is no electricity or running water at the campsites. Campers must pack in all their drinking water and be self-sufficient.
  • "Pack It In, Pack It Out" Policy: Squam Lakes Camp Resort operates on a strict "pack it in, pack it out" policy. There are no trash receptacles available at the campsites, meaning all waste must be carried out by campers.
  • Dock Access: Docks are available at various camping areas (e.g., Moon Island, Bowman Island, Wister Point) for boat access, though availability can be first-come, first-served for general docking.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a non-profit organization focused on conservation and education, the Squam Lakes Association, which operates Squam Lakes Camp Resort, structures its pricing to support its mission rather than offering frequent commercial promotions. However, they do provide value through membership and specific booking structures.

Here’s what New Hampshire locals should know about potential "offers":

  • SLA Membership Discounts: Becoming a member of the Squam Lakes Association is the primary way to receive a discount on camping fees. Members typically save a significant amount per night (e.g., $20 off per night) on both small and group campsites. This membership not only reduces camping costs but also supports the conservation efforts of the SLA.
  • Flat Rate Per Campsite: Camping fees are generally a flat rate per campsite per night, regardless of the number of people up to the site's maximum capacity (e.g., 6 people for a small site, 12 for a group site). This can be a value for larger families or groups.
  • Boat Rental Rates: While boat rentals are an additional cost, the SLA provides reasonable rates for kayaks, canoes, and other vessels, making lake access affordable for those who don't own a boat.

It's always recommended to visit the official Squam Lakes Association website or contact them directly for the most current pricing, membership benefits, and any specific seasonal offerings that might be available. Early booking is often advised, especially for popular island sites, as they tend to fill up quickly.
