This isn't just a place to pitch a tent; it's a vibrant, family-friendly destination on the spring-fed San Marcos River, offering everything from rustic riverside camping to luxurious glamping cabins and, of course, endless opportunities for tubing and kayaking.
As professional content writers specializing in local business SEO, we're excited to give you the lowdown on what makes Son's River Ranch a beloved "go-to spot" for Texans looking to "float and catch a vibe by the river." We'll explore its prime location, the diverse range of services and accommodations it provides, the unique features that set it apart, and why it's perfectly suited for a memorable Texas getaway with friends and family.
Son's River Ranch is conveniently located at 1400 Sherrill Rd, Kingsbury, TX 78638, USA, nestled along the beautiful San Marcos River. This prime location places it in the heart of Central Texas's beloved river country, making it easily accessible from major metropolitan areas like San Antonio, Austin, and Houston.
To reach Son's River Ranch, you'll typically navigate to Kingsbury, a small community between Seguin and Luling. Its rural setting provides a peaceful escape from city life, yet it's still close enough to towns like Luling (about 15 miles away) for essential supplies, including an H-E-B and local favorites for Texas BBQ.
Accessibility within the ranch itself is well-regarded. Reviewers have highlighted the ease of access, noting that vehicles like a 21-foot skoolie and a Ford van had no trouble getting in and out "going good speeds." This suggests that the main access roads within the property are well-maintained for a variety of vehicles, including larger RVs and trailers. For glamping cabin and safari tent guests, there's often direct parking right by your accommodation. The ranch prides itself on its convenient parking and efficient shuttle service, especially for tubing and kayaking, which runs regularly on busy days.
While the property is in the country, it's designed for ease of use, ensuring that your journey from home to the river is as smooth as possible. Just be aware that while Wi-Fi is available in many accommodations, cell service can sometimes be spotty in rural areas, so it's always good to download any necessary information beforehand.
Son's River Ranch goes beyond basic camping, offering a comprehensive range of services and accommodations designed to enhance your river experience:
Camping Options: Son's River Ranch offers various overnight options to suit different preferences. This includes traditional camping spots where you can set up your own tent, as well as more unique offerings like Safari Tents and Glamping Cabins.
Glamping Cabins: These are fully furnished, insulated, and air-conditioned/heated cabins, providing the comforts of home. They typically include foam mattress beds, linens and towels, kitchenettes (with mini-fridge, microwave, stovetop, coffee/tea maker, sometimes a blender), flat-screen TVs with DVD players, furnished patios, BBQ grills, and fire pits. These are ideal for those who want to enjoy the outdoors without the hassle of traditional tent camping setup.
Safari Tent Cabins: Similar to glamping cabins, these unique safari tents offer an indoor/outdoor living experience with comfortable wicker seating, hammocks, fire pits, BBQ pits, picnic tables, outdoor lighting, water, and electricity. There are dedicated bathroom trailers nearby with multiple private, lockable full bathrooms with showers for guests.
Riverside Cabana Rentals: For day visitors or as an add-on for overnight guests, Son's River Ranch offers thatched-roof, Hawaiian-style cabanas right by the river. These include entry for up to 8 people, comfortable wicker furniture, a picnic table, BBQ pit, hammock, water, and electricity. Reservations are highly recommended for these popular spots.
Watercraft Rentals & Shuttle Service: A major draw is the on-site rental of tubes and kayaks. The ranch provides convenient shuttle services to take guests to the put-in point and pick them up at the designated take-out point 2 miles downriver, making tubing and kayaking hassle-free.
Restroom & Shower Facilities: While specific details vary by accommodation type (e.g., glamping cabins have private bathrooms), the presence of multiple clean bathroom trailers with showers near Safari Tents and other camping areas ensures comfort for all guests.
On-site Staff: Reviews frequently praise the "quick and friendly" staff and "super helpful, very kind, attentive" management, ensuring a well-run and positive experience. Staff also conduct clean-up, as noted by a reviewer who saw them addressing litter in the water.
No Pets: It's important for visitors to note that Son's River Ranch has a strict "no pets allowed" policy due to insurance reasons.

They accept cash onsite, as well as Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit cards. A minimum check-in age of 25 is required unless accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Son's River Ranch Reviews
I was highly impressed with this place!! The staff was quick and friendly when entering. The place was gorgeous and very clean. There was a few cans in the water but I did see staff coming around cleaning up. not sure why people think the water is a trash can?? But that's not the staffs fault, that's the mindset of people. But I would highly recommend this spot to ANYONE. I'll definitely keep coming back here
Jun 29, 2025 · Shavonne RomeroI love it here! We come with my friends and my family, several times in the last 2 years. It’s our go to spot to float and catch a vibe by the river. The manager was fire, door dude. He is a fantastic guy! Super helpful, very kind, attentive. Helped us out. 10 out of 10, highly recommend.
May 25, 2025 · Sunny ValenciaThe rental tents are legit. Recently upgraded heat pump AC in each room. We had no problem keeping it at 68 degrees at night. Keep the door closed, and it was comfortable all day.The location was great. Nice quiet stretch of river, but unfortunately, zero rapids. The main downfall of this place was the bathrooms and the poison ivy. ALL of the trees near the palapas and river had years old vines of poison ivy. Could be simply removed, but obviously, not a thought put towards it. See my pictures. The bathrooms were 50/50 to whether or not the door would close. The showers were either missing the handle or wouldn't turn on/off. It's hard to get dressed and stay dry when the shower is stuck running. I checked every bathroom on 1 trailer, and NONE of them had soap or shampoo in the showers. The portapotties were nearly overflowing when we arrived early Friday and only got worse over the weekend.Also. If you don't tent their tubes, you are stuck waiting around 30 minutes to get your tube back. Someone stole one of our tubes when we left it under our rented river canopy for approximately 1 hour. Its $20 to use their shuttle, and $10 more if you want to use their tubes or a kayak. Shuttles were either 12 passenger vans that you could ride with your tube on trailer, or a school bus where you had to wait 20 minutes to get your tube back.Could be a 5 star with a little more effort.
Jun 24, 2025 · Russ MannDisappointed by the Lack of Flexibility and Customer ServiceWe booked a stay at Sons River Ranch a few weeks in advance, looking forward to a fun getaway. Unfortunately, two days before our check-in, the weather forecast showed rain all day during our trip. I reached out to ask if we could cancel or reschedule due to the expected bad weather, but was told there was absolutely no option for cancellation or refund—regardless of the circumstances. This rigid policy, especially for an outdoor-focused property, was really disappointing. We wouldn’t be able to enjoy any of the activities we came for due to the rain. I had read other reviews mentioning that they “just want your money,” and sadly, I felt the same after this experience. There was no empathy or willingness to work with us.Overall, I would not recommend this place. Their customer service was non-existent, and they were not willing to help or even listen when we genuinely needed assistance. If you’re booking here, just know you’re on your own if anything unexpected comes up.
Jul 04, 2025 · Pranav PatelWe had a wonderful day at the river! It was nice to be somewhere with actual water, cooling off, and enjoying a space to relax and laugh with friends. The pricing is great, there was plenty of shade, and the hammock was a great added touch. We look forward to potentially booking a glamping spot another day.
