Sleeping Bear Retreat Reviews
We agree with the positive reviews. This place has ample space and activities. The location is close to town but quiet off the beaten path and peaceful. There is a nice shower central to the camp area and sounds like they give out some solid scares for Halloween season. I hope to come back!
May 28, 2025 · Katrina MooreVery nice place. We stayed in a Teepee. Kids loved it! It did rain the next morning and even with the flaps closed we did get wet. The drips from above soaked our cots and water did run across the floor. We are very avid campers and this is not a problem for us. I include it for the sake of people who would need to know. Bathrooms are set up very nice and were very clean. Owner gave us pointers to hike a creek bed where we found fossilized wood and other fossils. It was nice to cool off. Our fire pit was set with a fully adjustable grill which was very appreciated. We had a very large owl land in the tree above us! We also enjoyed the giant chess set. We said our evening prayers on a short dock that goes out into the small pond. It was a very nice experience.
Jun 24, 2024 · Gre BordWe tent camped and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the campground and bathroomsThe staff were great, very friendly and accommodating for us. We had electric hookup and ran a fan. We came on weekday and it was very hot but set up under tree and stayed very comfortable. Checked out the other sites and loved the teepees, also lots of nice picnic tables aroundWill definitely return and do recommend.
Aug 07, 2024 · becky gilmoreI love this campground! I visited on a hot weekend in July with my boyfriend. We opted for the camp site with electricity. It was the perfect amount of space for us, had a plug at the edge of the space, a picnic table, and fire pit. It was quiet the weekend we visited and we were one of the few campers there. The campground itself was well maintained and had several tipis and other structures on site. The place had a lot of charm and soul that made me enjoy my stay even more. It's close by to various hiking options as well as amenities of French Lick bars, restaurants, and casino. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
Aug 22, 2023 · Laura FaithWhere to start to help people in the future ......We had 1 night in the "sealed" wagon with our grandkids. After a 4 hour drive, we arrived at 4pm.When you turn into the entrance (right side), be careful - because it has high weeds that hide a huge dip and large rocks. I now have bumper damaged. We started to unpack, but we had to clean the inside of the wagon first.Previous people had to leave at 12, and we arrived at 4, but the tabletop and floors were filthy. We know you're outside, and ticks and other creatures are expected (we camp often), but as we started a fire, the ticks were literally dropping out of the trees onto us.There is no way it's being treated enough, if it's that bad.We went to figure out how to block the windows so people could not see right inside at night and to our surprise.... a huge spider was on the outside canvas by the window. (See pic)Yes, we get it..... you're outside, and we can live with it, but as I look underneath, there are 6 more ......just as BIG.As I looked closer, I noticed the homemade wagon was "not" sealed as stated. There is a 4 inch gap all the way down BOTH sides that go right INSIDE the sleeping area. There is no way we can stay after that.My son and I went to the house where the owner lives and talked to him. He said that he sprays some good stuff that kills ticks and spiders for 3 months. (If that is the case and it's the beginning of June, how are they so prevalent)We asked for a refund, and we will load back up again and drive all the way home.I told him that we will NOT leave a review (because we are not a Karen and we don't do reviews) he said he will refund our money or we can pack up and move to a different roomWe packed up and started the long drive home.We had only 4 hours there, not included unloading/loading.A few days later, we asked about our refund, and he said that only $50 would be returned (see attached), and that is why we decided to leave a reviewThe place has some great potential but needs some TLC, as other posts clearly have also started
