Silver Creek Plunge Introduce
For us Idahoans, few things capture the essence of our state's unique charm quite like a visit to a natural hot spring, especially when it's combined with a fantastic camping experience. Silver Creek Plunge, nestled deep within the picturesque Boise National Forest near Garden Valley, is exactly that kind of treasured destination. It’s not just a campground; it’s a family-friendly resort built around a wonderfully clean, naturally heated geothermal pool, making it an annual tradition for many, ourselves included. This place truly offers a perfect blend of relaxation, outdoor adventure, and genuine Idaho hospitality. While getting there is part of the adventure, the warmth of the springs and the beauty of the surroundings make every mile worth it.
Silver Creek Plunge is located at 2345 Silver Creek Road, Garden Valley, ID 83622, USA. While the address places it in Garden Valley, it’s important for local visitors to understand its remote setting. The Plunge is approximately 25 miles north of Garden Valley, situated in what is known as Peace Valley, at an elevation of around 4,490 feet within the vast expanse of the Boise National Forest.
Accessing Silver Creek Plunge involves a scenic but noteworthy drive. From Boise, you'll typically take State Highway 55 north to Banks, then turn east onto the Banks-Lowman Highway (State Highway 17) towards Garden Valley. After passing through Crouch, you'll turn onto Forest Service Road 698 (Middle Fork Road) and then eventually onto Forest Service Road 671 (Silver Creek Road). The last stretch of the drive, particularly the 8 miles on Silver Creek Road, is on an unpaved, often gravel or dirt, forest road. As many visitors attest, this road can be "a bit hard to drive to, especially with a trailer." While generally well-maintained, conditions can vary, especially after rain or snowmelt, and a 4-wheel drive vehicle might be advisable during certain times of the year, particularly in spring. During winter months, direct vehicle access is often impossible, and the Plunge becomes accessible only by snowmobile or tracked vehicles, adding to its secluded charm. Despite the potentially challenging drive, the unanimous sentiment among those who visit is that "it's worth it!!" The journey itself becomes part of the adventure, leading you deeper into Idaho’s stunning forested mountains.

Silver Creek Plunge truly shines with a combination of unique features and highlights that make it a standout destination in Idaho:
The Hot Springs Pool Experience: The main draw is undoubtedly the large, clean, and warm geothermal pool. Its flow-through design ensures fresh, clear water. The "original mineshaft entrance" provides a unique, warmer, and more intimate soaking area, a favorite for many. The ability to use tubes in the pool adds a fun, family-friendly element.
Beautiful and Clean Campground: Reviews consistently highlight the campground's beauty and cleanliness. The "nice wooded area for camp" with plenty of shade creates an inviting atmosphere. Paved roads within the campground contribute to a pleasant, dust-free environment.
Ideal for Families: The combination of the hot springs pool, a playground, basketball court, horseshoe pits, and activities like riding bikes on the paved roads make it an excellent choice for families with children. The "kids love to ride their bikes" comment is a strong endorsement.
Access to Cold Creek Fun: While the hot springs offer warmth, Silver Creek itself runs alongside the campground, providing a "fun (but cold) to play in" option. Some visitors even enjoy sitting where the warm pool water drains into the creek for a unique mixed-temperature experience. The creek is also frequently stocked with rainbow trout during the summer, offering fishing opportunities.
Abundant Recreational Opportunities: Beyond the hot springs, the surrounding Boise National Forest offers a wealth of activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, ATV riding on designated trails, and in-season big game hunting. Peace Creek Trail, Silver Creek Summit Trail, and Bull Creek Trail all begin nearby.
Year-Round Operation (with winter access by snowmobile): The Plunge's ability to operate year-round, even if it requires snowmobile access in winter, provides a unique and adventurous experience for those seeking winter hot springs soaks.
Friendly and Helpful Staff: Consistently positive reviews emphasize the "nice," "kind," and "helpful" camp hosts and employees, which significantly enhances the overall visitor experience.

Silver Creek Plunge Reviews
This is our absolute favorite place to go camping and it has become an annual tradition for us. The camp hosts and employees are so nice!! The warm springs pool is very clean. The campground is beautiful. The creek is fun (but cold) to play in as well. My kids love to ride their bikes on the paved road in the campground. It's a bit hard to drive to, especially with a trailer, but it's worth it!!
Jul 05, 2025 · Keira AndersonCame on a Tuesday in May, and not many people were there throughout the couple hours we soaked. The pool and surrounding area is nice, I loved the original mineshaft entrance because it was warmer. I enjoyed having that small inside space to sit. I wish the changing space had more separation. The outhouse was nicer for an outhouse. They had a dryer you could use which was convenient. The staff were kind and helpful! I enjoyed all of the things you could use in the pool like the tubes. The surrounding area was also beautiful
May 24, 2025 · wynter fosterThe lady was really nice but I had an access issue with my service dogs. I tandem team as they are for different disabilities. We stopped up for a couple minutes while we were riding. I asked for next weekend when we head up for camping if my service dogs could lay by the pool. At terrace lakes they are allowed. I was immediately asked for paperwork which is not required in the US. If you go to the ada website. They state two questions businesses can ask.1: Is this service dog required for a disability?2: what tasks are they trained to aid your disability? There is no registration in the US. This is from companies trying to steal your money and help people fake service dogs. The hours of training make the dog, not the vest or fake paperwork.I did this review to educate. I'm not trying to be rude but this fake paperwork that you're asking for is not ok. Any person can go online and get this paperwork.
May 12, 2025 · Rain FallI’ve been visiting for over 40 years. Clean and well run. One of our favorite places to camp. Always worth the drive.
May 28, 2025 · Paul WhiteThis might be one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited! Silver Creek plunge is nestled deep in the forest and can be a bit of a treacherous drive. However, once you get there, you will be amazed by how amazing everything is. We stayed at a campsite, which had basic necessities. Of note there is no formal bathroom. And there are no showers. However, you are able to go to the pool until nine or 10 o’clock depending on the day. There’s also an amazing creek that it’s quite chilly right now! The staff is super friendly and down to earth. We will definitely be visiting again! Thank you for such a great day!
