My family and I spent the entire day hiking in Sequoia National Park and arrived at Sequoia Mountain Farms vacation home later in the evening. Upon arrival, we were met with two broken blue metal gates, held together by a bike lock. Due to limited cell service in the park, we had to contact the owner to get the lock combination, which took some effort.Once inside the gate, the property appeared unkempt and poorly maintained. My wife reassured me that the place had great reviews, so we decided to give it a chance. As our kids began showering, we started our usual cleanliness and safety inspection. We always check for bed bugs and ensure the sheets are clean. On that front, the house was clean, albeit with a noticeable musty smell—hence the one star. The real issues arose during our safety check. The house was completely unsecured:• No locks on the ground-level bedroom windows, where our children were supposed to sleep• No working lights in our daughter’s bedroom• A loose back door handle with no lock• Windows in the sunroom patio that couldn’t be secured• Weak lock on the exterior patio doorsWe attempted to contact the owner, but our phones were in and out due to the location. Ultimately, we made the decision to leave and go to a hotel. The house simply wasn’t ready to be rented—no working lights in bedrooms and no basic security measures in place to ensure our family’s safety. We contacted the owner and explained our concerns. His response was that he knows all the neighbors and there has never been a break-in. That didn’t reassure us. He was responsive but dismissive—rude, even—implying it was our fault for not contacting him sooner. We explained our reasoning clearly: the home was not in a safe condition, especially for a family with children. To date, we have not received a refund, not even a partial one.I rarely leave reviews, as I understand most people try their best to offer a good experience. But I would never want another family to spend this kind of money and feel as unsafe and uncomfortable as we did and get gaslit when we bring valid concerns. Maybe this place would have worked for me back in college, but for a family seeking a secure environment, it was absolutely not acceptable. In summary:Clean interior, musty smell, close to the park, but outdated, poorly maintained outside, and most importantly—not secure. - David Ziler

Sequoia Mountain Farms Campground, RV sites and Vacation Home Introduce

Introduction / Overview

Sequoia Mountain Farms Campground, RV sites and Vacation Home in Miramonte, CA, presents a unique lodging option for Californians looking to explore the majestic beauty of the Sequoia National Park area. Unlike traditional campgrounds found within the national park system, this establishment offers a blend of accommodations including RV sites and a vacation home, providing a different kind of outdoor experience. Situated in the foothills at a mid-elevation, it offers a distinct ecological setting compared to higher-elevation forest camping, making it a new adventure for some.

The property aims to provide essential amenities for a comfortable stay, with the notable advantage of being "not too far from the park entrance." This proximity is a significant draw for visitors prioritizing convenient access to Sequoia National Park's natural wonders. While the overall concept of Sequoia Mountain Farms appeals to those seeking a private land camping or vacation home experience, potential guests should approach their stay with awareness of varying past guest experiences. The goal of this article is to provide a factual overview based on available information, helping locals make informed decisions about their next California adventure.

Location and Accessibility

Sequoia Mountain Farms Campground, RV sites and Vacation Home is located at 54145 CA-245, Miramonte, CA 93641, USA. This address places it in the scenic foothills of the Sierra Nevada, within relatively close proximity to the entrance of Sequoia National Park. Miramonte is a small, unincorporated community in Fresno County, nestled amidst rolling hills and offering a sense of rural tranquility.

For Californians, accessing the property typically involves a drive through picturesque agricultural and foothill landscapes. State Route 245 provides direct access, connecting to larger highways that lead from various parts of California. The "close to the park entrance" location is a significant convenience for those planning day trips into Sequoia National Park, minimizing travel time to and from the natural attractions. It’s important to note that cell service in this more remote area, especially closer to the National Park itself, can be limited or inconsistent, as one review highlighted ("limited cell service in the park," "phones were in and out due to the location"). This suggests that visitors should plan accordingly, perhaps by downloading maps or directions beforehand. The property’s setting in the foothills offers a distinct experience compared to higher elevation camping, with different flora and fauna, presenting a new perspective for those accustomed to traditional mountain camping. While the exterior appearance has been described as "unkempt and poorly maintained," the practical accessibility to the main highway and nearby park entrance remains a key aspect of its location.

Services Offered

  • Vacation Home Rental: The property includes a "vacation home" available for rent, offering a more structured accommodation option compared to traditional camping.
  • RV Sites: In addition to the vacation home, Sequoia Mountain Farms offers "RV sites," catering to those traveling with recreational vehicles. This provides flexibility for different types of campers.
  • Basic Amenities in Vacation Home: The vacation home's interior was described as "clean" and equipped with essentials, including a kitchen with "good amenities" and areas for showering.
  • Proximity to Sequoia National Park: A key service benefit is the property's location "not too far from the park entrance," making it a convenient base for exploring the national park.

It is important to acknowledge that while some basic amenities are provided, one review highlighted significant concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of the vacation home. These issues included:

  • Lack of Security: No locks on ground-level bedroom windows, a loose back door handle with no lock, unsecured sunroom patio windows, and a weak exterior patio door lock.
  • Non-Functional Lights: No working lights in one of the bedrooms.
  • Maintenance Issues: A "musty smell" inside the house and the exterior described as "outdated, poorly maintained outside."

Prospective guests, especially families, should take these reported issues into careful consideration and directly inquire about current conditions and security measures before booking.

  • Potential for Outdoor Activities: Being in the foothills near a national park implies opportunities for hiking, nature observation, and enjoying the natural surroundings.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced view, as some features were highlighted negatively in a detailed customer review:

  • Poor Exterior Maintenance: The "property appeared unkempt and poorly maintained" outside, with "two broken blue metal gates, held together by a bike lock."
  • Security Concerns: A major concern was the lack of security, including "no locks on the ground-level bedroom windows," a "loose back door handle with no lock," "windows in the sunroom patio that couldn’t be secured," and a "weak lock on the exterior patio doors."
