Location and Accessibility
Sequoia Highland Camp is ideally situated at 45002 E Kings Canyon Rd, Dunlap, CA 93621, USA. This prime location places it within the heart of California's Central Sierra Nevada region, offering convenient access for residents from across the state, including the major metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and the Bay Area, which are approximately 200 miles away. The journey to the camp itself, while leading to a secluded wilderness, is part of the experience, transitioning visitors into a world of natural beauty.
A significant advantage of Sequoia Highland Camp's location is its proximity to two of California's most celebrated national parks: Kings Canyon and Sequoia. The camp is reportedly just 20 minutes from the west entrance of Kings Canyon National Park and approximately 12 miles from the entrance to both Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. This makes it an incredibly convenient base for day trips to explore the majestic giant sequoia groves, dramatic canyons, and diverse hiking trails these parks offer.
Access to the camp involves navigating the last two miles on a gravel road, which can be bumpy, but cars with low clearance are generally able to drive it. Directions advise guests to buy gas and groceries in Fresno, as Clingan's Junction is noted as the last chance for these essentials before reaching the camp. Specific driving instructions are provided, guiding visitors to turn left at the road sign for Sequoia Highland Camp shortly after reaching 4000ft, approximately 4.2 miles from Highway 180 on a partly paved and partly gravel road. Guests are also advised to download maps due to limited phone reception in the area, a common characteristic of remote mountain locations.
Despite its secluded feel, the strategic location and provided directions make Sequoia Highland Camp an accessible retreat for Californians eager to explore the wonders of the Sierra Nevada while enjoying a comfortable and serene base camp.

Aug 05, 2024 · florence losayAbsolutely breathtaking spot hidden away in the wilderness. We had an amazing time at the camp and stayed in one of the renovated cabins. The cabin was well decorated, super cozy and beautiful. The location is perfect - situated in the hills overlooking the sequoia range for a great quite getaway. And a short easy drive to kings canyon makes it really great for exploring and seeing the massive sequoia trees.
Feb 24, 2023 · Georgia GrzybowskiUnique mountain top cabins. The quiet and calm nature is soothing and relaxing. Beautiful views and clean cabin with a friendly host. Make sure you drive up with appropriate vehicles as it is a rough dirt road up the mountain.
Oct 28, 2022 · V SIncredible and serene spot! We spent a weekend here to explore the Sequoia and Kings Canyon NPs, which are very close. The Camp has a wonderful sunset viewpoint, and comfortable, well equipped (hello memory foam beds) and beautifully restored rustic cabins. Could only recommend
