Selway Falls Campground Introduce
For Idaho locals with a passion for rugged wilderness and unspoiled natural beauty, Selway Falls Campground offers a truly immersive outdoor experience. Located near Kooskia, Idaho, this primitive forest service campground is a gem nestled within the vast Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. What makes this particular campground stand out is its immediate proximity to the powerful and picturesque Selway Falls, a natural wonder that captivates all who visit.
Selway Falls Campground provides a rustic setting, emphasizing self-sufficiency and a deep connection with nature. It’s a place where the roar of the falls provides a constant symphony, and the untamed beauty of the Selway River, a federally designated Wild and Scenic River, is literally at your doorstep. This campground is ideal for those who appreciate a less developed camping experience, focusing on the core elements of outdoor adventure: stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and the thrill of being off the beaten path. While the facilities are basic, as is common with many primitive sites, the raw appeal of the location more than compensates. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning spontaneity can be your best friend when planning a visit to this captivating Idaho destination.
Selway Falls Campground is strategically located near Kooskia, Idaho, with its address listed as Kooskia, ID 83539, USA. This places it deep within the heart of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, an area renowned for its vast wilderness and dramatic landscapes. The campground's primary draw is its direct adjacency to the majestic Selway Falls, a significant landmark on the Selway River.
Accessing Selway Falls Campground involves a scenic drive that adds to the overall adventure. From Kooskia, visitors typically travel along the Selway River Road (Forest Service Road 223). This road generally follows the Selway River, leading you deeper into the forest and offering breathtaking views along the way. While the road is often well-maintained, it's important to remember that it is a forest road, and conditions can vary depending on weather and time of year. Higher clearance vehicles might be more comfortable, though passenger cars can generally manage it. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, winding through lush forests and offering glimpses of the pristine river. Given its somewhat remote location, it's always wise for visitors to check current road conditions and any potential closures with the local Forest Service district office, especially during early spring or late fall when conditions can be unpredictable. The remoteness contributes significantly to the campground's appeal for those seeking solitude and an authentic Idaho wilderness experience.

Needs a great deal of attention!!!
Jul 04, 2025 · Tammy HernandezNothing a little TLC and some elbow grease wouldn't cure. The facilities are absolutely disgusting. In fact, every vault bathroom that was past the pavement was in serious disrepair. The smell from the men's bathroom wafted over to our campsite. The women's side had no toilet paper in it at all. Neither side had a handy "keep the toilet seat closed" sign to help remind everyone to put the seat down because it isn't exactly a flush toilet. Finally, we drove to the top of cool water mountain and saw a forest service worker sitting out doing a survey, where all two of us drove right past her. It would have been better if she was driving a truck from site to site with bleach and toilet paper.
