Sarah's Creek Campground

Sarahs Creek Rd, Clayton, GA 30525, USA

4.0
This is the second year I have camped here. We love it. The campground was clean, and the vault toilet had just been cleaned. We were in the middle of the fire ban, but there was plenty of firewood available. I saw park rangers all three days I was there, and they were super friendly. This is definitely some of the best primitive camping I have found. - Max Sanches

Hey there, Georgia outdoor enthusiasts! Are you yearning for a true escape into the wild, a place where the sounds of the city fade away, and the serenity of nature takes over? Sarah's Creek Campground, nestled near Clayton, is a beloved spot for locals who appreciate genuine primitive camping experiences. This isn't your average RV park with all the bells and whistles; it's a place where simplicity and natural beauty reign supreme. Let's explore what makes Sarah's Creek Campground a standout destination for your next adventure in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Sarah's Creek Campground offers a quintessential primitive camping experience within the beautiful Chattahoochee National Forest. Unlike more developed campgrounds, this site provides a rustic and tranquil environment, perfect for those who enjoy being self-sufficient and fully immersed in nature. It's known for its clean conditions, despite its primitive nature, with one reviewer noting, "The campground was clean, and the vault toilet had just been cleaned." This attention to upkeep, even in a basic setting, speaks volumes about the care taken by the park rangers, who are frequently seen and described as "super friendly."

The campground offers 22 designated sites, each providing essential amenities for a comfortable primitive stay, including a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. It's an ideal spot for tent campers, and while smaller RVs or vans might be able to navigate the access road, the experience is largely geared towards a more traditional camping style. Reviewers consistently praise it as "some of the best primitive camping" they've found, highlighting its quiet, secluded atmosphere. The presence of a "rustic trout fishing" opportunity further enhances its appeal for anglers, although one reviewer playfully admonishes, "If your that dude that fishies by the bridge after they drop the fish. Not cool be a man and fish somewhere in the creek. Its a sport if u want easy go to a trout farm. Sarahs creek is awesome." This sentiment underscores the genuine outdoor experience sought by visitors. Sarah's Creek Campground is a place where you can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle, enjoy a campfire under the stars, and wake up to the sounds of a serene creek.

Sarah's Creek Campground is located on Sarahs Creek Rd, Clayton, GA 30525, USA, within the Chattahoochee National Forest. More specifically, the physical address is listed as 1946 Sarah's Creek Road, Clayton, GA 30525. For Georgians, this location offers a fantastic escape into the mountains of Rabun County, a region renowned for its stunning natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. To reach the campground from Clayton, you'll travel east on Warwoman Road for approximately 11.6 miles. Then, you'll turn left onto Forest Service Road 156, also known as Sarah's Creek Road. The campground is located about 2.2 miles down this road.

It's important to note that the access road is described as a "gravel road" and can be "tight and narrow," which is typical for national forest primitive campgrounds. While some RVs up to 70 feet are theoretically allowed, past campers suggest that "personally I would take a big camper up there the gravel rd is tight and narrow," implying it's more suitable for tents or smaller vehicles. The campground is broken up into three sections along this road, with dispersed sites offering varying levels of seclusion. While cell phone service might be spotty in this remote area, the journey itself is part of the adventure, leading you to a tranquil haven away from the noise of urban life. Its proximity to Clayton means relatively easy access to town amenities for last-minute supplies, yet the campground itself feels wonderfully remote.
