For Iowans seeking an accessible, affordable, and enjoyable outdoor experience, Sam Robinson Memorial Park & Campground in Sibley presents a compelling option. It embodies the essence of local community parks while providing essential camping amenities. While some reviews mention specific areas for improvement, such as the condition of certain sites (specifically sites 1-3 being rocky with weeds) and the need for more consistent site maintenance, especially regarding cleanliness and weed control, these appear to be isolated incidents or specific to certain areas rather than reflective of the entire campground experience. It's important to note that the park currently does not have a host, which might contribute to these maintenance observations.
However, the park's strengths significantly outweigh these minor drawbacks, particularly considering its price point. The provision of hookups, public restrooms, and showers (with a note to check water temperature) caters to the basic needs of campers. The presence of a playground and splash pad makes it a fantastic choice for families looking for a convenient and fun outing close to home. Sam Robinson Memorial Park & Campground Reviews
I will start with, the website gave me quite a bit of a hassle to get my reservations setup. Also, the confirmation email wasn't sent as it was supposed to be.When I arrived at site 1, I was very disappointed with the campsite itself. The hookups were fine, the whole site was complete rocks that were quite jagged. Also, the weeds were growing up to above my calf. Along with the whole campfire area being completely covered with thick weeds and trash.Sites 1-3 are lacking quite a bit.I understood that the park had no host etc. However, I feel like when a reservation is made they should check the sites to make sure they aren't filled with garbage at the least.
Jun 02, 2025 · Shawn ConnerGreat stop on our road trip. Near the highest point in the state. Definitely bring bikes to ride around. There is a playground and splash pad right there which was great for our toddler. Bathrooms are typical public park bathrooms. The shower was way too hot. I hope someone sees this and turns down the temp on the hot water heater. I couldn't let my toddler in the shower, I could barely stand to wash off. But still great for the price.
Sep 01, 2024 · Sarah/David WallNice little campground near city pool and golf course. Very full in July, of course. Be advised, if you're not from the area there is a fairly strong odor of pig manure in the entire region. Yes, it's farmland area, I know, but the smell is fairly strong.
Jul 20, 2024 · Gordon MedleyIt’s a nice little park, especially during off times like mid May on a Tuesday. There are only four other campers here and three seem to be unoccupied. Half or more of the sites will need more leveling blocks than normal so come prepared. I would definitely come back but not on a weekend or other popular time.Beware; the Google Maps link takes you to the town library. The Apple Maps link is correct.
May 14, 2024 · Gary SmithNice place. Not all sites have a 30 amp plug so if you have a 50 to 30 adapter things should be ok. Some of the sites are located below the community pool which has a lot of noise because of music and excited kids. If you don't want to deal with the noise get a site on the other end of the campground. Overall it's a nice place and we would return.
