★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We have spent many summer days at this campground and love it. We will continue to stay at this campground every summer. There is so much to do at the campground it's self, but there is lots to do in the surrounding communities as well. It has a friendly atmosphere and a clean. There are a variety of campsites, private, open, and buddy sites. They have water fill stations and a dump station. Drawbacks are no sewage hook up, and you have to book 6 months in advance, or you won't get a good spot if at all.
March 26 · Tina Humphrey (klph69)My family wintered at Salamonie over this last winter. We absolutely love it here. The DNR staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We have only had positive experiences in our interactions with the DNR staff. The grounds are clean and kept up nicely. There is ample wildlife that will sometimes come into the campground for an up close view to enhance your experience. Perfect place for quiet, relaxing retreat or weekend getaway.
April 09 · Lorna KolkmanOne of my top state parks to visit! There's so much to do around the lake, there's the state forest and a couple different nature preserves to go to and also other Rec areas around the lake. There is plenty to keep you busy, especially if you like hiking or boating. I go there primarily to hike and there are countless miles to see!
October 16 · Dustin EdwardsI’m not at all disappointed. Took a swing on this campground at 9 months pregnant after tons of bad luck. This was our first time here & our first time on our new-to-us boat. I have now found a new regular campground and will be coming back every chance I get. The water levels where down 12 feet so the marina was closed, but they had buoys out to show you where it was too shallow. Due to blue green algae presence they had the beach closed off to swimming but you could still walk the beach if you wanted to. The campground is lovely and the few regulars we ran into here where super nice. The other boaters that frequent this area are also extremely helpful when you are struggling. So get a campsite, grab your tent, bring a boat, and enjoy an amazing weekend! I’m limited on where and how I can walk, but they had a few lovely trails that where super easy even for me in crocs to walk down, and there are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. The trails are marked okay but not the best, and good luck reading the map, but the trails that need to be marked are the ones that count. We had a lovely peaceful stroll down the self guided loop trail, and also walked to half mile trail down by the nature center place and read the little book pages they had out. (This would be great for highly active children). They also have a predator birds exhibit around the side with injured animals that can’t be released into the wild with little educational panels as well. For me, driving through the campground to get to our site was a little stressful, both with and without the boat, as children and adults would often walk out in front of you or bike out in front of you with no warning and no regret, and the children where often left unsupervised and would find it funny to try and “race” up past your moving vehicle and pretend like their going to drive in front of you, but honestly, that’s not something the park can change or fix so no negative or less stars from me for it. I definitely recommend taking the chance and checking this place out. Especially if you have your own boat. They also have an overnight mooring dock for the campground we weren’t able to use due to how low the water levels where, as our boat wasn’t equipped for it, but we saw a few boats using the mooring docks. The nature was pleasant, as I was able to see ground hogs, red squirrels, hawks, turkey vultures, turtles, among other wildlife up close and personal. Highly recommend!
September 13 · Shyanne WilliamsVery small campsites barely space to set up a tent, no privacy. Unfortunately we had an unmarked unofficial public access trail going directly through our campsite, which was a bit unhandy. At one point an e-bike came through while we were enjoying our supper and badly damaged our tent. Also the DNR micro-management here is nothing short of excessive, including but not limited to patrolling the campsites at dusk with blue lights lit, and threatening with whopping $1,000 fines for riding in the bed of a pickup truck (while camping, in a campground). I can't recommend this place. There's some fun little beginner mountain bike trails at the park that are fun, though.
