This article delves into the charm of Running Water Creek, exploring its prime location, the services it offers, and the standout features that make it a hidden gem for Tennesseans.
Running Water Creek isn't your typical roadside campground; it's a distinctive, fully off-grid haven spread across nearly 120 acres, designed to immerse visitors in nature while providing essential comforts. With a focus on minimizing environmental impact, the campground operates primarily on solar power, offering a sustainable approach to outdoor recreation. It caters to a variety of campers, from those with self-contained RVs and camper vans to overlanders and traditional tent campers. Reviews consistently praise the friendly and accommodating owners and groundkeepers, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home. As one happy camper noted, "Great place. Spots were well spaced and bath house was clean. Everyone was friendly... Will definitely be back." This sentiment is echoed by others who appreciate the clean land, the joy of exploring the grounds, and even the friendly dogs that roam the property, adding to the joyful experience.
The strategic location of Running Water Creek is a significant draw, offering both convenience and a sense of secluded escape. You'll find this campground at 299 Pulltight Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37419, USA. What makes this address particularly appealing is its proximity to downtown Chattanooga—less than 20 minutes away—while still providing a distinct feeling of being far removed from urban hustle. This makes it an ideal "base camp" for those looking to explore the myriad attractions of Chattanooga, such as Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, and the Chattanooga Choo Choo, without sacrificing the peace of a natural setting at the end of the day. As one reviewer aptly put it, "After a long day of exploring the city, going to Running Water Creek is the perfect escape."
Accessibility to Running Water Creek is generally straightforward. While most roads within the 120-acre property are accessible by standard cars, it's important to note that some paths may require a 4x4 vehicle, which are typically clearly marked. This thoughtful approach to diverse terrains allows for a range of camping experiences, from easily reachable spots to more adventurous, secluded sites. The presence of nearby highway and train tracks means there can be some ambient noise, as mentioned in reviews. However, the serene sounds of the creek and the natural beauty often overshadow this, creating an overall peaceful environment. The combination of easy highway access and a private, expansive natural setting positions Running Water Creek as a highly desirable camping destination for those within and outside the Chattanooga area.
Running Water Creek offers a thoughtful selection of services, balancing the desire for an off-grid experience with essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Running Water Creek Reviews
Great place. Spots were well spaced and bath house was clean. Everyone was friendly and while there is a train that comes by close to the campground, the creek and views from the tent/fire ring made this a great stay. Will definitely be back.

May 06, 2022 · Catherine WaterburyGreat little hip camp, we had it all to ourselves. There is a bathroom and running water with showers and a heater in the bathroom!
May 06, 2025 · Amanda LangellIt was great! Perfect distance from downtown, we got in a lot of activities in 2 days. We came at the perfect time of year, didn’t need to use a fan or heater at night. Highly recommend!
Mar 15, 2024 · Devon G.Still camping here with my BF and wishing I didn't have to go back home yet. This place has one heck of a super comfortable bed, cozy get away, love that it's all solar powered! We ordered wood for a fire and they gave us more than enough for 2 days. The amenities, for being in the woods, is super clean.Sure, you can hear the trains, but living near a train track back home, it doesn't bother me and it's not the entire time. Nothing like sitting on the front deck and leaning back with a cold one at a comfortable place in the woods.Well kept, peaceful, looks like they are even updating things, cute stage and picnic area. 10/10 stars and will definitely come back.
