Rocky Point Campground Introduce
For many of us who live in North Carolina, the appeal of a convenient, affordable, and welcoming place to set up camp is always high on the list. Whether you're a seasoned RVer, a family looking for an accessible getaway, or someone needing a comfortable spot for an extended stay, finding the right campground can make all the difference. Nestled in its namesake town, Rocky Point Campground offers a straightforward and practical option for those seeking a convenient base in southeastern North Carolina. It’s a place that caters to both short-term visitors and those looking for a longer-term stay, providing essential amenities without unnecessary frills.
Rocky Point Campground aims to be a functional and friendly environment for its guests. It’s a no-nonsense kind of place, focusing on providing the core necessities for a comfortable camping experience. While some campgrounds might focus on extensive recreational features, Rocky Point prides itself on offering reliable full hookup sites and essential facilities like a bathhouse and laundry room, making it particularly suitable for those who prioritize practicality and value. For North Carolina locals needing a convenient spot near Wilmington or the beautiful coastline, Rocky Point Campground presents a pragmatic choice.
Rocky Point Campground is conveniently located at 14565 Ashton Rd, Rocky Point, NC 28457, USA. For North Carolinians, especially those in the eastern part of the state, this address places it in a highly accessible area. Rocky Point is situated in Pender County, offering a quieter atmosphere than the bustling city of Wilmington, yet remaining within easy reach of its amenities and attractions. This location strikes a good balance for campers who prefer a more relaxed setting but still want access to urban conveniences.
The campground's proximity to major routes allows for relatively straightforward travel. For instance, it's approximately 25 minutes to Wilmington, which means easy access to shopping centers, gas stations, hospitals, and a wide variety of restaurants – all essential for a comfortable camping trip, especially for those on longer stays. Furthermore, for those who love the coast, Rocky Point Campground is around 45 minutes from several popular North Carolina beaches, including Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach. This makes it an excellent base for day trips to the shore, allowing campers to enjoy the best of both worlds: the peace of the campground and the excitement of the coastline. Its direct access from Ashton Road ensures an uncomplicated arrival for all types of vehicles and RVs.
Rocky Point Campground focuses on providing essential services that cater to the needs of its campers, particularly those with RVs and extended stays. While not a resort with extensive recreational amenities, it aims to offer practical conveniences for a comfortable experience:
- Full Hookup Sites: Most sites offer full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer connections. This is a significant advantage for RV campers, ensuring a self-sufficient and comfortable stay without the need for frequent trips to dump stations or water fill-ups.
- Bathhouse: The campground features a bathhouse with separate men's and women's facilities, providing restrooms and showers. This is crucial for tent campers or RVers who prefer not to use their onboard facilities, offering a clean and accessible option for personal hygiene.
- Laundry Room: A dedicated laundry room is available on-site, equipped with washers and dryers. This amenity is particularly valuable for long-term residents or those on extended trips, allowing campers to easily clean their clothes without leaving the campground.
- On-Site Management: The presence of on-site management is a key service, ensuring that any issues or concerns are addressed promptly. Management is noted for being responsive and helpful, providing a sense of security and support for campers.
- Pet Monitoring Services: While not explicitly listed as a standard service, one review highlighted that management has gone above and beyond, watching pets and campers for guests when they were away, indicating a willingness to assist with unique needs.
- Pond Access: The campground features a beautiful pond with ducks and geese, offering a pleasant natural feature for relaxation and enjoyment.
- Garbage Disposal: Facilities for garbage disposal are available, helping to keep the campground clean and tidy for all guests.
It's important to note that while full hookups are provided, some past guests have mentioned issues with services like cable TV and internet/Wi-Fi availability or reliability, and limited cell phone service in some areas. It is advisable for potential campers to confirm the current status of these specific services if they are critical to their stay.
Rocky Point Campground, while focusing on practicality, offers several features and highlights that contribute to a straightforward and often pleasant camping experience, particularly for those seeking a convenient base in the Rocky Point area:
- Emphasis on Full Hookup Sites: The primary highlight is the availability of full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer), which is highly valued by RV campers for comfort and convenience. This makes it ideal for both short visits and extended stays.
- On-Site Bathhouse: The presence of a clean bathhouse with separate men’s and women’s facilities, including showers, is a significant feature, especially for tent campers or RVers who appreciate dedicated facilities.
- Convenient Laundry Room: An on-site laundry facility is a practical highlight, offering campers the convenience of doing laundry without needing to leave the campground, which is particularly beneficial for longer-term residents.
- Beautiful Pond with Ducks and Geese: A peaceful pond within the campground, home to ducks and geese, provides a tranquil natural element. It offers a pleasant view and a spot for quiet reflection or simply enjoying the waterfowl.
- Friendly and Responsive Management: Multiple reviews praise the management for being friendly, good, and very responsive to any issues. Their willingness to assist guests, even with unique requests like pet-watching, stands out as a strong positive.
- Value-Oriented Pricing: Guests have noted that the campground offers great value, particularly considering the full hookups provided, making it an affordable option for local campers.
- Proximity to Coastal Attractions: While not directly on the beach, its location provides relatively easy access (around 45 minutes) to several popular North Carolina beaches, including Wrightsville, Carolina, and Kure Beach, making day trips feasible.
- Close to Wilmington: Being only about 25 minutes from Wilmington means campers have convenient access to a wide range of city amenities, including shopping, dining, and other services, providing a balance between a natural retreat and urban convenience.
- Suitable for Long-Term Stays: The high proportion of permanent or long-term sites indicates it's well-suited for individuals or families needing extended accommodation, such as those on job assignments in the area.
It is worth noting that some reviews mention limited cell service (e.g., one bar of 4G LTE) and no campground internet/Wi-Fi or working cable TV, which might be a consideration for those requiring constant connectivity. Additionally, the presence of roosters and associated noise has been mentioned in some feedback.
Rocky Point Campground, as a privately owned and operated facility, may offer various promotions or special rates, though specific details are not consistently available through public data. Generally, campgrounds that cater to a mix of daily and long-term guests often provide:
- Extended Stay Discounts: Given that many sites are described as "permanent sites" or are occupied by those on longer assignments (e.g., jobs in Wilmington), it is highly probable that Rocky Point Campground offers discounted rates for weekly, monthly, or seasonal stays compared to their nightly rates. This is a common practice in campgrounds that accommodate long-term residents and provides excellent value for those needing extended accommodation.
- Seasonal Rates: Pricing may vary by season, with potentially lower rates during off-peak times (e.g., late fall, winter, early spring) when demand is lower.
- First-Time Camper Incentives: Occasionally, new campgrounds or those looking to attract new clientele might offer a small discount for first-time visitors, though this is not explicitly stated.
To inquire about any current promotions, special offers for extended stays, or general pricing, the best course of action for North Carolina locals interested in Rocky Point Campground is to directly contact the campground via phone. Their friendly management team would be the most reliable source for up-to-date information on rates and any available discounts that could apply to your visit.

For us North Carolinians, Rocky Point Campground offers a highly suitable and practical camping solution, particularly for those seeking a no-frills, value-oriented experience in the southeastern part of the state. Its core suitability for locals stems from several key factors. Firstly, its location in Rocky Point provides a convenient base that balances rural tranquility with urban accessibility. Being just a short drive—around 25 minutes—from Wilmington means that essentials like grocery stores, medical facilities, and diverse dining options are easily within reach. This negates the common camping challenge of feeling too isolated from necessary conveniences.
Secondly, for those who love the coast, the campground's reasonable proximity—about 45 minutes—to popular North Carolina beaches like Wrightsville, Carolina, and Kure Beach is a major draw. It allows locals to enjoy beach day trips without the high cost or crowds often associated with direct beachside accommodations. This flexibility makes it ideal for families and individuals who want to explore the diverse attractions of our coastal region.
Furthermore, the campground's emphasis on full hookup sites, a functional bathhouse, and an on-site laundry room caters directly to the practical needs of many campers, especially those with RVs or those planning longer stays, perhaps for work assignments in the Wilmington area. The management's reputation for being friendly, responsive, and willing to assist, even with unique requests like pet watching, fosters a welcoming and supportive environment, which is highly valued by local residents. While it may not offer extensive recreational features or cutting-edge connectivity, its focus on providing a good value, reliable services, and a convenient location makes Rocky Point Campground a solid choice for North Carolinians looking for a straightforward, accessible, and affordable place to enjoy their outdoor adventures.

Rocky Point Campground Reviews
Rocky Point is not much to look at. Most sites are permanent sites. The daily rate offers you full hookups but not much else. The site we were on had garbage on and around it. The site was not maintained. We couldn't get the cable TV connection to work. No internet at campground. Our phones only had one bar of service and stayed on 4G LTE service (we have 5G phones). We do not recommend this campground. When we pulled in, I could hear animals screeching. Turns out it was several roosters that cock-a-doodle-do'd ALL. DAY. LONG...non-stop.Connie was friendly; however, she told us to go to one site number and then questioned why we went to that site and not a different site number.
Nov 28, 2024 · Sonya BeelerTraveled here due to a job in Wilmington. The park is beautiful, great value, has a bath house (men’s and women’s are separated), laundry room, and a beautiful pond with plenty of ducks (and geese lol). Around 45 minutes to several of the beaches, and around 25 minutes to Wilmington! I have come to know management and they have been so good to me during my stay. Any issues they are on top of it, plus they watched my pets and camper while I was gone.💕 I am sad to leave and move on as I really enjoyed their company. Absolutely would park here again, and again!
