Robin's Nest Family Campground is a long-established camping facility located in Harrod, Ohio. This longevity suggests a consistent presence in the Ohio camping scene, offering a traditional campground experience. The campground is described as a place where families can enjoy outdoor activities and find space for children to play, hinting at a focus on family recreation.
While some older reviews might mention certain aspects as "never outstanding," the fact that it has continued to operate for so long and still attracts visitors, including families, speaks to its fundamental appeal as a reliable local camping spot. It’s a place where "me and my kiddos had so much fun," enjoying the park and swimming. This enduring quality, despite any perceived imperfections, highlights its role as a consistent option for community and outdoor enjoyment in the Harrod area.
Robin's Nest Family Campground is situated at 2370 Napoleon Rd, Harrod, OH 45850, USA. Harrod is a small village located in Allen County, Ohio, positioned in the west-central part of the state. This area is characterized by its agricultural roots and a quieter, more rural atmosphere compared to larger urban centers.
The campground's location on Napoleon Road provides reasonable accessibility for campers traveling from various directions. Harrod is not directly on a major interstate, but it is well-connected by state routes. Lima, a larger city in Allen County, is approximately nine miles away, offering more extensive shopping, dining, and other amenities that campers might need during their stay. This proximity allows visitors to enjoy a peaceful camping experience while still having access to urban conveniences within a short drive.
The flat terrain typical of this region of Ohio generally makes for easy driving conditions, even for RVs. While the surrounding area is primarily agricultural, it offers opportunities for enjoying the quiet countryside. Nearby attractions that might appeal to campers include Indian Lake State Park, which offers boating, fishing, and swimming, and the Allen County Museum in Lima, providing historical insights into the region. For those who appreciate a straightforward journey to a rural camping spot, Robin's Nest Family Campground's location is a practical choice.
Robin's Nest Family Campground provides a range of services designed to make a camping trip comfortable and enjoyable for its visitors. Based on available public information and customer insights, these typically include:

- Restroom Facilities: Robin's Nest provides bathhouse facilities with showers for campers. One older review specifically mentions a "nice bathhouse with a shower," indicating the presence of these amenities.
- "Pit" Toilets: For more basic needs or in certain areas of the campground, "pit" toilets are also available, offering a more rustic restroom option.
- Swimming Area: A designated swimming area is a key feature, complete with a water slide. This provides a refreshing option for hot Ohio summer days. However, one older review from 20 years ago described the water as "murky," suggesting that water quality might be a point to clarify with current management.
- Fishing Opportunities: The campground likely offers opportunities for fishing, as is common with many family campgrounds that feature a pond or lake.
- Playground Facilities: There is a park/playground area where children can play and run around, as highlighted by a recent positive review from a parent.

- Pet-Friendly: While not explicitly stated in provided information, "Family Campground" often implies pet-friendliness with rules. This is a crucial factor for many Ohio families.
However, it's also important to acknowledge past critical feedback:
- Concerns about Driveway Conditions: An older review explicitly mentions "stoney drives" and "poor quality of the driveways," making navigation challenging, particularly in muddy conditions. This suggests potential issues with internal road maintenance.
- Owner's Temperament/Customer Service: A notable point of concern is a past interaction with the owner, described as "sternly instructing" a visitor to "get off his lawn" without apparent reason. While this is an isolated incident in the provided reviews, it is a significant piece of feedback regarding customer interaction.
These points suggest that while the campground offers appealing family activities, potential visitors should be prepared for a rustic experience and possibly inquire about current driveway conditions and management interaction.

- Off-Peak Discounts: During less busy times of the year (e.g., early spring or late fall), some campgrounds may offer lower rates or special deals to attract visitors.
- Group Rates: For larger families or groups, there might be specific pricing or discounts available.
Prospective campers interested in current pricing, any available seasonal packages, or specific booking terms should contact Robin's Nest Family Campground directly. It is always recommended to inquire about all fees upfront, including any charges for additional occupants, specific hookup types, or amenities, to ensure a clear understanding of the total cost of your stay.

Robin's Nest Family Campground Reviews
While driving past this campground, just down the street from where I grew up, I found myself thinking about my history with it. As a child, I recall swimming in its murky water, going down the same water slide that is there now, even 30 years later. When I was older, my siblings and I visited my father when he was camping there at one point. In my high school years, there were a few times that I would meet the friends of friends who were staying there for a holiday weekend. The campground, admittedly, was never outstanding, but it was there.About 20 years ago, a vivid memory was etched in my mind. It was a rainy day, and I was navigating the stoney drives in my first car, a manual. When starting from a muddy, stoney, rain soaked stop at an intersection, I remember struggling for traction. Being a novice driver, I hadn't mastered the technique of starting my manual car in second gear, which might have been more suitable given the muddy conditions, and the poor quality of the driveways there. To any observant onlooker, it would have been evident that I wasn't attempting any reckless driving. However, that day marked a turning point. Shortly after gaining traction, the campground owner confronted me, sternly instructing me that he didn't want to see me there again. His abrupt dismissal was surprising and unwarranted, considering the circumstances. Since then, me and mine have respected his wishes and never revisited. For those who choose to visit, it may offer a camping experience that suits you. However, be mindful of the owner's temperament. You might just find yourself being unexpectedly told to 'get off his lawn', metaphorically speaking, without much reason.
Dec 18, 2023 · Steve SteinerMe and my kiddos had so much fun ... they played at the park, went swimming, we slept outside in our tent ... it's plenty of space for them to run around and play... definitely going back soon.
Jun 12, 2023 · Aaliyah WilsonnThey have confederate flags all over the place. Most sites are dumpy and run down. There are a few nice trailers, but mostly trashy. The shower house....I couldn't stand within 30 ft. Of it without smelling human waste. Never went inside it because of the foul odor. We wanted to stay at Ottawa Metro Park but they are first come/first serve and we got there too late on a holiday weekend. This place was the only campground near Lima we could get into and I now know why!! We ended up leaving early even though we had paid for another night. One night was one too many!! Gave it 1 star because giving it a 0 star rating was not an option. Yuck!
Jul 20, 2018 · Joy ShererGiving 3 stars as folks were friendly. Escorted to the choice of 3 unlevel grass sites that were small and difficult to get into. No info given, just here's your choice. 2 nights $60 cash ( probably to avoid taxes like the man of choice in this neck of the woods, #45) Didn't notice the Trump/ Pence sign at the entrance until later. This place is full of permanent seasonal sites. Has a swimming pond and fishing pond too. Activities for kids. Golf carts rolling around everywhere and so were confederate flags. Not my choice next trip. Thanks
Sep 23, 2021 · Cheri StinnettBathrooms are filthy and full of black flies. Swimming area run down and pond is only good for fishing. Playground is run down. The "Camp Store" was never open. The place really should be shut down.
