River Edge Campground Introduce
For us Oregonians, there’s an inherent pull towards the serene beauty of our natural landscapes, especially when it involves the tranquility of a flowing river and the embrace of a lush forest. If your ideal getaway is a place where you can truly unplug, listen to the sounds of nature, and enjoy genuine hospitality, then River Edge Campground in Tidewater is a destination you absolutely need to experience. Nestled along the Alsea River, this campground offers a refreshing escape from the daily grind, providing a peaceful haven that goes above and beyond expectations for a classic outdoor adventure.
River Edge Campground isn't just a place to set up camp; it's a testament to dedication and a love for the outdoors. What truly sets this campground apart, as many recent visitors can attest, is the exceptional care and personal touch provided by its hosts. From meticulously maintained grounds to thoughtful gestures that enhance your stay, you'll find that every detail is considered to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience. It’s a place where the simple joys of camping—cleanliness, quietude, and connection with nature—are elevated, making it a perfect spot for families, friends, and solo adventurers looking to truly disconnect and rejuvenate amidst the beauty of Oregon's Coast Range.
River Edge Campground is located at 23116 Alsea Hwy, Tidewater, OR 97390, USA. This prime location places it in the beautiful, forested region of Oregon's Coast Range, alongside the scenic Alsea River. For Oregon locals, getting to River Edge is part of the charm, as the journey itself leads you through picturesque landscapes, setting the tone for a peaceful retreat.
The campground’s address on Alsea Highway (Highway 34) makes it accessible, though it's important to note its "off the grid" nature. While the road to the campground is generally described as "pretty smooth and scenic," this area is known for its lack of modern connectivity. Specifically, there is "zero cell service (literally none)" at the campground. This means visitors from Oregon or elsewhere should be prepared by downloading directions and maps ahead of time, as GPS and phone signals will be unreliable once you are in the vicinity. This deliberate lack of connectivity is, for many, a major highlight, encouraging a true disconnection from digital distractions and a deeper immersion in nature.
Despite its secluded feel, River Edge Campground isn't entirely isolated. It's approximately a 30-minute drive to Waldport, a charming town on the Oregon Coast. This proximity allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the forest while still having relatively easy access to coastal amenities, groceries, and attractions if needed. The drive to Waldport is considered pleasant and scenic, winding through the lush Oregon forests. The campground’s setting directly on the Alsea River provides beautiful waterfront access and the soothing sounds of the river, creating a serene backdrop for your stay. It truly embodies the peaceful, tucked-away experience many Oregonians seek in their camping adventures.
Clean Vault Bathrooms: While they are vault toilets, visitors consistently praise their cleanliness, with reports of spotless floors and well-stocked toilet paper. This commitment to hygiene is a significant comfort for campers.
Well-Maintained Sites: Campsites are regularly mowed and kept free of overgrown moss, dirt, weeds, and pine needles. This attention to detail ensures a tidy and welcoming environment.
Garbage Haul-Off Service: Camp hosts go above and beyond by checking on campers' garbage and offering to haul it off, a service not typically provided at many campgrounds.
Host-Provided Amenities/Loans: The hosts are known for offering thoughtful extras, such as baskets filled with lapel pins, koozies, and glow items for kids. They also loan out equipment like horseshoes and even brand-new LED frisbees, enhancing the recreational opportunities for campers.
Fire Pits: Each site likely comes with a fire pit, allowing for traditional campfires (always check for current fire restrictions before lighting a fire).
Spacious Sites: Reviewers note that the sites offer a good amount of space, providing privacy and room to spread out.
No Cell Service/Wi-Fi: This is a key "service" for those seeking to unplug. There is literally no cell service or Wi-Fi, ensuring a complete disconnect from digital distractions.
Exceptional Camp Hosts: The most frequently highlighted feature is the extraordinary dedication and friendliness of the camp hosts. They are consistently described as going "above and beyond what is required," creating a genuinely welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Their meticulous upkeep and thoughtful gestures significantly enhance the camping experience.
Super Quiet and Secluded Atmosphere: The campground offers a truly peaceful and tucked-away environment. Being completely off-grid with no cell service contributes to a profound sense of quietude, perfect for those seeking to escape noise and digital distractions.
Riverside Setting on the Alsea River: Falling asleep to the soothing sound of the river is a major highlight for many visitors. The Alsea River provides a beautiful natural backdrop and opportunities for riverside relaxation, fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil waters.
Immaculate Grounds Maintenance: The consistent effort put into maintaining the campground's cleanliness and tidiness, from mowed grass to swept curbs, is a significant feature that sets River Edge apart.
True Disconnect from Technology: For many, the complete lack of cell service is a desirable feature, forcing a true unplugged experience and encouraging deeper engagement with nature and companions.
Proximity to Waldport: While secluded, the campground is only about a 30-minute scenic drive from Waldport on the Oregon Coast, offering access to coastal towns and attractions when desired.
Family-Friendly Vibe: The thoughtful amenities provided by the hosts for children, such as glow items and frisbees, contribute to a family-friendly atmosphere where kids can truly enjoy being outdoors.
While the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, some visitors have noted that the bathrooms, being vault toilets, "could definitely use some improvement" in terms of modern comfort, despite their cleanliness. This is a common expectation for rustic campgrounds and generally does not detract significantly from the peaceful and well-maintained environment that River Edge Campground offers. The trade-off for a truly off-grid, serene experience is one that many campers are happy to make.

River Edge Campground Reviews
Just went for our 2025 annual camping at Rivers Edge for 3 nights. Let me tell you, they were the nicest hosts we have experienced by far. Everything was mowed, the vault bathrooms were clean (even inside the bowl), and floor was spotless. Plenty of toilet paper for our group and even came and checked our garbage to see if we needed anything hauled off. Which isn’t their responsibility. The hosts wife had a basket full of lapel pins, koozies, and glow items for the kids to choose from. They loaned us their horseshoes and a brand new LED frisbee to throw. You can tell they enjoy doing this. They definitely go above and beyond what is required of them.We even left for a bit and saw them shoveling what looks like years of over growth (moss, dirt, weeds, pine needles) along the curbs and sweeping it up. You can actually see the 6” curb that was about an 1” or 2” in places.Didn’t remember their names but hope they come back next year.
Jun 27, 2025 · Bryan GemmillWe stayed at River Edge Campground and had a great time! Just a heads up—this place is completely off the grid. There’s zero cell service (literally none), so make sure to download directions and maps ahead of time because once you’re out there, you’re fully unplugged. It added to the peaceful vibe and made it easier to disconnect and just enjoy being in nature. The campground itself is super quiet and tucked away, which we loved. It’s about a 30-minute drive to Waldport, and the road isn’t bad at all, pretty smooth and scenic. The sites were clean and had a good amount of space, and falling asleep to the sound of the river was such a treat. The bathrooms could definitely use some improvement; they're not the best, but it’s also a campground, so I went in with realistic expectations. Just something to keep in mind if you’re someone who needs a bit more comfort. All in all, it’s a great little spot if you’re looking to disconnect and enjoy some peace and quiet in the forest. Would definitely camp here again!
Jun 09, 2025 · Alondra GarciaWe were there a couple weeks ago for family/friend weekend. The place is definitely off grid if you want cell service. But it’s perfect with the river right next to it and the kids loved catching crawfish, and floating. The camprgound is private use and reservations only. It is expensive $270/night but if the entire group kicks in, then it’s like staying anywhere else but it’s all yours. It has a big pavilion (for those Oregon rainy days) which has a fire pit under it, and big cooking grates for large gatherings. Plenty of tables. There is a big field that was freshly mowed, and a fire pit outside. There is power source in pavilion and a sink. This is the first time we met these hosts this year. Dan was there to greet each once of us, ensuring random vehicles not part of our party were directed to the day use area. His wife, I didn’t catch her name had a basket of pins, (camp slogans (Smokey the bear, frogs, dinosaurs, and some others I couldn’t see) for the kids, another basket of the glow in dark necklaces, bracelets, headbands glasses, Smokey color books and crayons, stickers for kids, and koozies for those adults who wanted one. They offered their horseshoes if anyone wanted as well. We have never camped where the hosts are so fun, inclusive and accommodating. The bathrooms were clean, garbages were kept up and for a vault, was better than you would expect. There are no sinks.Highly recommend for large groups, reunions, corporate events, family/friends. Our dogs had free reign.
Jun 27, 2025 · samie gemmillHad a fantastic time even though it rained the whole time! Having the indoor, tables fire pit, BBQ, sink, electricity, etc..made it doable.
