It’s a place where the gentle lapping of water and the quiet hum of nature replace the everyday rush, creating a truly relaxing atmosphere.
Leesville Lake itself is a gem within Ohio's natural landscape, celebrated for its 10-horsepower maximum boat limit. This restriction ensures the lake remains exceptionally quiet and calm, making it perfect for non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards, as well as for leisurely pontoon boat rides. This quiet environment is a significant draw for those looking to avoid the high-speed noise and congestion often found on larger, more active lakes. Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds leverages this peaceful setting, allowing campers direct access to these pristine waters.
The campground strives to foster a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere. Guests often praise the helpfulness of the campground manager, Mark, and the friendly nature of the seasonal residents, who contribute to the positive community feel. While the park is continually being updated, the focus remains on providing a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience that highlights the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of Leesville Lake. Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds is conveniently situated at 2126 Azalea Rd SW, Carrollton, OH 44615, USA. This address places it within Carroll County, a picturesque region of eastern Ohio known for its rolling hills and tranquil rural settings. The campground’s location directly on Leesville Lake ensures easy and immediate access to all the water-based activities that the lake offers, from fishing to kayaking and boating.
Reaching Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds is straightforward for Ohio residents traveling by car. The roads leading to the site are generally well-maintained, providing a smooth journey to your lakeside retreat. However, as with any rural destination, it’s always wise to drive with care and be mindful of local conditions.
A key aspect of its accessibility is its proximity to significant natural features and other recreational areas within the Leesville Lake region. While Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds offers its own unique charm and amenities, it is also within a reasonable driving distance to other points of interest around Leesville Lake, such as the North Fork Marina, which offers additional paddling opportunities along different sections of the lake's shoreline. This geographic advantage allows visitors to explore more of the area's diverse natural beauty during their stay.
It is important for prospective campers to note that while the campground strives to accommodate all visitors, sites are limited. While some might be able to pull in late without a reservation, as one review mentioned, securing a spot, especially during peak season, is best done by making a reservation in advance. This proactive approach ensures you get to experience the peaceful lakeside camping that Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds has to offer. The direct access to the marina also means that for those arriving by boat or wishing to rent one, the transition from land to water activities is seamless, further enhancing the overall accessibility and convenience of this Ohio gem.
Electric-Only Campsites: The campground offers sites with electric hookups, providing convenience for campers with RVs or those needing power for their camping equipment. Water and sewer hookups are not typically available at individual sites, consistent with many quieter, more rustic campgrounds.

Pontoon Boat Rentals: For those who don't own a boat but wish to explore Leesville Lake, pontoon boats are available for rent directly from Petersburg Marina, allowing for leisurely cruises on the quiet waters.
Camping for All Types: The campground accommodates various camping styles, including travel trailers and tent camping. Specific recommendations, such as choosing site #9 for tent camping on the lake, highlight favorable spots.

However, it is always advisable for prospective campers to directly contact Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds or inquire upon arrival for any potential current deals or opportunities. While not guaranteed, the following might be possibilities or worth asking about:
Seasonal Rates: For those interested in longer stays, particularly for RVs, seasonal rates are often available. These can provide significant savings compared to daily rates for extended periods.
Off-Peak Discounts: During the shoulder seasons (spring before peak summer, or fall after summer holidays), demand might be lower, and the campground might offer slight reductions or more flexibility in securing a spot without a reservation.
Rental Package Deals: The marina may occasionally offer package deals that combine campsite stays with pontoon boat rentals or other watercraft rentals, especially during less busy periods.
Loyalty Programs: While not explicitly stated, some campgrounds offer informal loyalty recognition for returning campers. It never hurts to ask if you are a repeat visitor.

This limitation ensures the lake remains calm and peaceful, creating ideal conditions for quiet activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Locals who own non-motorized watercraft will especially appreciate the unhindered access to such tranquil waters.
Secondly, the camping experience itself caters well to local preferences. The availability of electric-only sites provides essential comfort for RVers, while tent campers can find appealing spots, including picturesque lakeside options like site #9. The ongoing efforts by the manager, Mark, to improve facilities, including the noted cleanliness of the bathrooms and shower houses, demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the camper's experience. This dedication ensures that while the setting is rustic, fundamental amenities are well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable stay.
The community aspect is another significant advantage for Ohio locals. The positive feedback regarding the welcoming manager and friendly seasonal residents speaks volumes about the atmosphere. This sense of camaraderie among campers, where neighbors are willing to assist, fosters a genuine feeling of belonging and safety, making it an ideal place for families to introduce their children to camping or for anyone to feel at ease. This friendly environment can turn a simple camping trip into a more enriching social experience.
Finally, the array of activities, particularly fishing for the legendary Leesville Lake muskie, and the convenient pontoon boat rentals directly from the marina, provide ample recreational opportunities. Locals don’t need to travel far or invest heavily in equipment to enjoy the lake. Whether it's a day of fishing, a leisurely paddle along the lake's "fingers," or a relaxed evening campfire by the water, Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds offers a complete and accessible outdoor package that resonates deeply with the desires of Ohio residents for a peaceful, enjoyable, and genuinely local escape.

Petersburg Marina & Campgrounds Reviews
Great place to spend a couple of days camping and kayaking on this quiet, family friendly, 10hp max lake. The campground manager, Mark, was extremely welcoming and helpful, and the seasonal residents were friendly and quiet. We pulled in late with our camper, without a reservation; it was already dark, and we couldn't easily identify open sites. One of the seasonal campers assisted us and offer to help in any way... thank you Russ! We ended up with a nice site. Sites offer electric only. The manager is working hard to bring this park up to date. There are lots of boat docks and pontoon boats to rent. Huge fish to be caught, like 40 lbs muskee! There is rumor of a monster in the lake; we couldn't find him. There is definitely work that needs to be done in the shower house and bathrooms, but that is the only negative that we could find. Make a reservation! There are limited spots. If you are tent camping choose site #9 on the lake. As for the kayaking: we paddled along the north shoreline out and back 10 miles on day 1. On day 2 we drove to the North Fork Marina and paddled the southern shoreline for another 10 miles. We loved all the fingers we explored on the north fork and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the south shore.
Jun 13, 2019 · Michelle ReeseI went to visit family that camped for the weekend. Its peaceful and can camp right at the lake but people are camping onto of each other. The fire ring outside ur camper door isn't urs it's the neighboring campsites and urs is further away beside ur camper. Plus older seasonal campers complain until u move ur camper how they want even if it's already set up. Bathrooms are cleaner than most campsites and lakes...I was surprised.
