★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice location on the river, with good views all around. It was $20 when I stayed, which I felt was a bit steep for just a pit toilet (and unsurprisingly, no hiker/biker discount). There are bear boxes.
July 23 · Altan HaanNice campground. We were early enough to where the fee box was not set up, so it was free. The water wasn't on yet, but the toilets were unlocked. Brought our own toilet paper too. We were right on the river. The wind was pretty gusty, and we got a snow flurry, but that was our own risk.
May 03 · John Propp V (BigfootBackpacking)One of the semi-primitive campsites along the Madison River. I'd rate it higher except that if you're there to fish, you'll have a hard time from shore though there are several spots worth fishing if you're in a boat. The campground sits out in a clear area with few trees around the sites. The sites are plenty spacious with two restroom buildings. There is a warning sign to be "Bear Aware" and each site is equipped with a bear proof box to secure food stuffs. But the area really doesn't get much bear traffic. The area is truly wide open and you'd see them coming for several hundred yards. $18 per night or $12 per night with an active Montana fishing license.
September 04 · Joshua WilkinsIts a nice campground. Very clean, most spots are right on the river. There are volt toilets, and there is water available. Each space has a picnic table and a fire pit with a grill and the spots are normally $12 a night.
May 01 · Trish ClementsExcellent little BLM campground. We stayed for 1 week at site number 3.
