This campground seems to be for the discerning camper who values privacy, tranquility, and the raw beauty of Michigan's outdoors. It's a place where the sounds of nature prevail, and the sense of being truly "away from it all" is palpable. For many Michiganders, the allure of such a rustic setting lies in the opportunity to disconnect from daily life, enjoy quiet evenings by a campfire, and immerse themselves in the serene landscape. While specific details about its offerings are limited in public information, the available reviews strongly indicate that Oxbow Campground prioritizes natural surroundings over elaborate facilities, making it a unique contender in Michigan's diverse camping scene. It's a gem for those who prefer their outdoor adventures to be truly unspoiled and understated.
Location and Accessibility
Oxbow Campground is located in Columbiaville, MI 48421, USA. Columbiaville is a small village situated in Lapeer County, Michigan, known for its rural charm and proximity to natural areas. While a precise street address like a numbered road isn't readily available beyond the zip code, the feedback from a customer suggests that reaching Oxbow Campground might involve a unique approach. One review mentions, "You literally have to drive through someone's yard and a church youth camp to get there." This indicates that access might be less conventional than a typical, clearly marked campground entrance directly off a main road.
For Michigan locals accustomed to diverse road conditions and seeking hidden gems, this distinctive access might be part of the adventure. Lapeer County offers a mix of agricultural landscapes, small towns, and recreational opportunities, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. While the journey to Oxbow Campground may require careful navigation based on the available directions, its setting within Columbiaville likely places it within reach of various natural attractions and local conveniences. Prospective campers should be prepared for a less straightforward arrival, possibly needing detailed directions or local guidance to find the exact entrance. This rustic approach to accessibility further reinforces the campground's appeal to those looking for a more remote and less commercialized camping experience.
Services Offered
Based on the available customer reviews, specific details regarding the explicit "services offered" at Oxbow Campground are minimal, suggesting a focus on a more rustic and less amenity-driven camping experience. However, drawing inferences from typical "state forest campground" characteristics, as mentioned in one review, and the nature of camping itself, we can deduce some probable offerings:
- Campsite Access: The core service would be providing a designated space or area for setting up tents or parking RVs/campers. Given the "rustic" description, these sites might be more natural and less developed than those in commercial campgrounds.
- Basic Natural Environment: The campground offers a natural setting, implied by "Beautiful spot and very rustic," allowing campers to immerse themselves in Michigan's outdoor environment.
- Privacy (Implied Goal for Adult Camping): One review indicates a desire for "private, adult camping trip," suggesting that the campground might inherently offer a degree of seclusion between sites, even if its overall accessibility is unique.
It is important to note that the reviews do not mention amenities like restrooms, showers, hookups (electric, water, sewer), laundry facilities, or recreational amenities such as playgrounds, pools, or Wi-Fi. This aligns with the "rustic" and "up north walk in state forest campground" description, implying that campers should be prepared for a self-sufficient experience with very limited, if any, modern conveniences. The focus is clearly on the natural setting and the opportunity for a more primitive camping adventure.
Features / Highlights
- Truly Rustic Experience: The most prominent highlight is its genuinely rustic nature, appealing to campers who prefer minimal amenities and a strong connection with the natural environment, akin to Michigan's state forest campgrounds. This provides a stark contrast to highly developed RV resorts.
- Secluded and Private Atmosphere: Despite the unusual access, the campground appears to offer a high degree of seclusion and privacy once inside, which is a significant draw for "adult camping trip" or anyone seeking a quiet retreat. The desire to "delete it from Google maps before too many people discover it" strongly underscores its hidden gem quality and tranquility.
- Beautiful Natural Setting: Described as a "Beautiful spot," Oxbow Campground likely boasts scenic views, natural landscapes, and a serene environment that encourages relaxation and appreciation of Michigan's outdoors.
- "Up North" Vibe, Close to Home: For Michigan locals, it offers the desirable "up north" rustic camping experience without necessarily requiring a long journey to the northern reaches of the state, making it an accessible escape.
- Ideal for Quiet Getaways: It seems particularly well-suited for individuals or small groups looking for a peaceful and undisturbed camping trip, away from typical family campground noise and activities.

Oxbow Campground Reviews
You literally have to drive through someone's yard and a church youth camp to get there. Not a very comfortable place for 2 adults looking for a private, adult camping trip. Not worth it in my opinion.
Jun 21, 2025 · Heather SchanerBeautiful spot and very rustic. Just like an up north walk in state forest campground. We should delete it from Google maps before too many people discover it.
Mar 18, 2023 · Jeffrey GanleyNo electrical, sanitary or fresh water hook ups, no pull through camp sites, over grown access road is difficult to navigate. Expect many scratches or damage to rig from branches and low limbs. Poor wifi. They really let this place go.
Jun 18, 2023 · Norbert creosote1.5 mile hike, so pack accordingly, wonderfull fishing, and not a bad spot to swim. Just mind the current and the kayaks. Razberrys were ripe starting the 7th with plenty more to come. Oh, and bring bugspray. Dispersment camping permit can be printed for free from the dnr page.
