From spacious sites suitable for large RVs to more intimate settings, our goal is to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone. What truly sets us apart is our dedication to creating a positive and engaging environment. As one satisfied guest put it, it's an "Amazing campground, friendly. We were sad to leave." This sentiment echoes our core mission: to offer more than just a place to park or pitch, but a genuine community where guests feel welcome, safe, and eager to return. Our focus on well-maintained facilities, coupled with a genuine desire to provide excellent service, makes Oak Plantation Campground a standout choice for your next South Carolina outdoor adventure.
One of the most significant advantages of choosing Oak Plantation Campground is its prime location at 3540 Savannah Hwy, Johns Island, SC 29455, USA. Johns Island itself is a beautiful part of the South Carolina Lowcountry, known for its majestic oak trees, marshland scenery, and a laid-back, rural charm. What makes this location truly exceptional, however, is its incredible proximity to downtown Charleston. A short drive connects you directly to the cobblestone streets, historic architecture, world-class dining, and vibrant arts scene that Charleston is famous for. This means you can spend your days exploring the city's rich history and cultural attractions, and then retreat to the peaceful tranquility of the campground in the evenings.
While the address is on Johns Island, the accessibility from major thoroughfares makes arriving at Oak Plantation Campground relatively straightforward. Savannah Highway (US 17) is a key route, providing direct access to and from Charleston and other surrounding areas. As one reviewer noted, "The traffic is a bit rough, don't plan to make a left turn coming out of the campground. But, to be fair, traffic is wild all over the area." This is a common characteristic of popular areas like Charleston, and planning your turns can easily mitigate this. Despite the local traffic, the overall convenience of being so close to both the city and the natural beauty of the barrier islands is an undeniable draw. You're just a short drive from stunning beaches like Folly Beach and Kiawah Island, offering endless opportunities for sun, sand, and water activities. This strategic location truly offers the best of both worlds for South Carolina locals looking for an escape that's close to home yet feels a world away.

Apr 29, 2025 · Chelsea Sue HolmesThis is a very nice, clean and well kept campground. The traffic is a bit rough, don't plan to make a left turn coming out of the campground. But, to be fair, traffic is wild all over the area. We were there in February and the bathrooms were nice, warm and super clean. The sites are much bigger than most campgrounds, and we had some room to spread out. There is a beautiful pavilion with picnic tables and a grill that we used while we were there. I had to work while I was there and I had no problems using multiple programs on their provided Wi-Fi.
Mar 25, 2025 · Lisa ChapmanWe stayed at Oak Plantation campground for the first time in years. The campground is lovely and the sites are spacious. However, the traffic is insane and you cannot go left onto 17 from the campground at any time or any day. It’s horrible! We probably won’t be back until Charleston fixes the problem.
Mar 31, 2025 · tricia tenpasNice campground with some old trees covered in Spanish Moss. Can handle up to 45' RVs with full hookups. Sites are crushed gravel and level. The campground was clean and well kept, and there are two bathhouse. There is also a one acre fenced dog park. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would stay here again.
Mar 12, 2025 · Mike DeisherThe campground is nice, big and clean. We did not use the bath facilities or laundry. The biggest drawback is the traffic getting in and out of the park. It is horrific. It is backed up all day, every day.I hate it for the park because it would be a nice place to visit if not for the traffic.
