Northshore Campground

Clark Creek Rd, Burney, CA 96013, USA

4.0
We camped for two nights over the Labor Day weekend and enjoyed the close proximity to burney falls and lassen np. The road into the campground could use some work, lots of ruts and dips that need to be filled but if you go slow you will be fine. We had #17 that was described as an 80’ pull through but it sure seemed much shorter than that as we have a 25’ trailer and a Ford truck. We fit the space fine but not much to spare. The camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. - Ruth Strom

It's a place where you can spend your days fishing, boating, or swimming in the lake, and your evenings unwinding around a campfire under a starlit sky. With the added convenience of amenities like warm showers and a welcoming camp host, Northshore Campground goes beyond basic camping to offer a truly enjoyable and memorable experience for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural splendor of the Burney area.

Location and Accessibility

Northshore Campground is located at Clark Creek Rd, Burney, CA 96013, USA. It is specifically situated on the northern shore of Lake Britton, approximately two miles west of State Route 89. Its prime location is a key highlight, as it is just a short drive – roughly three-quarters of a mile to six miles – from the world-famous McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, and also provides relatively easy access to Lassen Volcanic National Park, though this is a longer drive.

Access to the campground is typically via Clark Creek Road. While the road leading into the campground can have "ruts and dips" and may be "narrow and bumpy," especially for larger vehicles or those towing trailers, it is generally paved. Visitors are advised to "go slow" when navigating this section. Once inside, many campsites offer "perfectly level and spacious parking pads," accommodating RVs, trailers, and tents. While some sites are noted as being more suited for RVs, overall, the campground is accessible to a range of camping setups. The close proximity to Burney Falls and Lake Britton ensures that outdoor adventures are just moments away, making it a highly convenient base for exploring this picturesque region of California.

Services Offered

Northshore Campground provides a good range of services and amenities that enhance the comfort and convenience of your camping experience.

  • Campsites: The campground features approximately 30 campsites. These sites are designed to accommodate a mix of RVs, trailers (up to 55 feet in length, though navigation on access roads can be tight for larger rigs), and tents. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill. Some sites may be designated as pull-throughs, though a reviewer noted that an 80-foot description might feel shorter in practice.
  • Restrooms: Clean restrooms are available, including vault toilets around the campground and a larger main bathroom facility. Reviewers frequently praise the cleanliness and even the pleasant smell of the bathrooms.
  • Showers: A highly valued amenity, Northshore Campground offers showers with warm water. These showers typically operate on a token system, requiring $1 bills (quarters are not accepted). The main bathroom with showers is often open from 8 AM to 9 PM.
  • Potable Water: Drinking water spigots are available throughout the campground, providing access to potable water for campers.
  • Camp Hosts: Friendly and helpful camp hosts are usually on-site. They are frequently mentioned in reviews for keeping the place "beautifully clean" and being very accommodating, sometimes even offering firewood.
  • Bear Boxes: As bears are present in the area, bear-resistant food storage lockers are typically provided at campsites for safe food and scented item storage.
  • Trash Disposal: Garbage disposal services are available, with trash cans or dumpsters to help campers keep the area clean.
  • Wi-Fi: Some sources indicate the availability of Wi-Fi, which can be a valuable amenity for those needing to stay connected.
  • Firewood: Firewood may be available from the camp host, but it's always a good idea to confirm and/or bring your own.
  • Minimum Stay Requirements: A 2-night minimum stay is often required for arrivals on Fridays or Saturdays, and for those opting for reservations.
  • ADA Access: The campground generally offers some ADA accessible features, including accessible picnic tables and potentially accessible paths.
Features / Highlights

Northshore Campground's highlights are deeply intertwined with its stunning natural surroundings and the recreational opportunities it provides.

  • Lakeside Setting on Lake Britton: The campground is situated directly on the northern shore of Lake Britton, offering scenic views and direct access to the water.

  • Cleanliness and Maintenance: Consistent feedback highlights the campground's overall cleanliness and the diligent work of the camp hosts in maintaining the facilities.
  • Peaceful Atmosphere (with some exceptions): While the campground can see crowds, especially on holiday weekends, it generally aims for a peaceful environment. However, some reviews mention potential noise from other campers, so expectations should be managed.
  • Shade and Natural Beauty: The campground is nestled in a lightly forested area, providing some shade from towering pines and other trees, creating a pleasant natural backdrop.
