The site was nice and isolated. Here's the real rules. Quiet time starts whenever the last party ends. Drinking is allowed within the campground, throwing bottles and cans is okay cause the early risers will pick them up. You are good as long as 1 wheel of the multiple cars and golf carts are within your site. If you forget your clothes or soap in the bath house you'll be able to retrieve them for at least 4 days. - Michelle Speer

Location and Accessibility

North Beach Camp Resort is ideally located at 4125 Coastal Hwy, St. Augustine, FL 32084, USA. This prime address places it on a narrow barrier island, perfectly nestled between the saltwater North River (also known as the Tolomato River) on one side and the expansive Atlantic Ocean directly across Coastal Highway (A1A) on the other. This unique geographical positioning is one of its biggest draws, offering campers easy access to both river and beach activities within a very short distance.

For Florida residents, the campground's accessibility is excellent. It's approximately 4.5 miles north of historic downtown St. Augustine, making it a convenient drive to explore the city's iconic landmarks, dining, and shopping without being in the midst of its busiest areas. Major routes like Interstate 95 (I-95) connect seamlessly to the St. Augustine area, ensuring a straightforward journey from various parts of Florida. While the immediate area around the campground on A1A can experience traffic, particularly during peak seasons, the overall approach to the resort is well-managed. The resort itself is designed to accommodate various vehicle sizes, including big rigs, with some useful directions available on their website for larger RVs. The internal roads within the campground are primarily sand or dirt, contributing to an "old Florida feel" and a natural setting, though some campers note this can lead to dust or mud depending on weather conditions. Despite this, navigation within the campground is generally considered easy.

Services Offered

  • Diverse Campsite Options: North Beach Camp Resort offers a variety of camping options including RV sites (with full hookups: 20, 30, and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer), tent-only sites, and cabin rentals. This caters to a wide range of camping preferences and comfort levels.

  • Full Hookups for RVs: Most RV sites come equipped with full hookups, providing the convenience of electricity, water, and sewer connections directly at the site, a significant amenity for modern RV travelers.

  • Restroom and Shower Facilities: The campground provides communal restrooms and showers. While some reviews mention that these facilities can be a bit dated and show wear, they are generally reported to be kept clean, with adequate soap and water pressure. Campers using RVs may prefer their own facilities.

  • Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are available, offering convenience for longer stays and helping campers keep their clothes fresh.

  • Swimming Pool: A swimming pool is available for guest use, providing a refreshing option for cooling off, especially on warm Florida days. It is typically kept neat and clean.

  • Wi-Fi and Cable TV: While Wi-Fi is offered, user experiences suggest that connectivity can be inconsistent or limited, especially for streaming. Cable TV hookups are also available at sites.

  • On-site Dining: North Beach Camp Resort is uniquely fortunate to have two restaurants within walking distance, directly adjacent or on the property: Aunt Kate's Restaurant (on the river side) and The Reef Restaurant (oceanfront). This provides excellent dining options without needing to leave the campground.

  • Camp Store and Bait Shop: A small store offering conveniences and a bait shop are located on-site, providing essential supplies for campers and anglers.

  • Playground and Recreation Areas: A playground is available for children, and other recreational options like shuffleboard and basketball may be offered, though specific details vary.

  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The resort welcomes pets, though restrictions (e.g., specific breeds, leash rules) may apply, and pets are generally not allowed in cabins, pool, or playground areas. There are typically limits on the number of pets per site.

  • On-Site Marina/Boat Ramp: Access to the North River/Tolomato River includes a marina and boat ramp, providing convenient access for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing on the intercoastal waterway.

  • Fishing Dock/Pier: A fishing dock or pier on the river side allows for easy access to brackish water fishing opportunities.

Features / Highlights

  • Unbeatable Coastal Location: The absolute top highlight of North Beach Camp Resort is its prime location on a barrier island, providing direct access to the Atlantic Ocean (just across A1A) and the North River/Tolomato River (at the back of the property). This means campers can enjoy both sunrise over the ocean and sunset over the river, along with dual opportunities for swimming, surfing, fishing, and boating.

  • Shaded, Private Sites with Natural Florida Feel: Many campsites are generously shaded by tall oaks and palmetto brush, offering a degree of privacy between sites. This gives the campground an "old Florida feel" with its natural, unpaved roads and sites, immersing campers in the local flora.

  • Walking Distance to Restaurants: A significant convenience is the presence of two popular restaurants, Aunt Kate's and The Reef, within easy walking distance. This provides excellent dining options without the need to drive, enhancing the "resort" aspect of the campground.

  • Proximity to Historic St. Augustine: Located just 4.5 miles north of historic downtown St. Augustine, the resort offers quick and easy access to the nation's oldest city, with its rich history, attractions, shops, and dining. This makes it an ideal base for exploring the area's cultural sites.

  • Lively and Social Atmosphere: Customer reviews often indicate that the campground has a very social and lively atmosphere. While this can be a highlight for those who enjoy a bustling environment with parties and gatherings, it's important to note that rule enforcement, particularly regarding quiet hours and alcohol consumption outside of sites, can be inconsistent as reported by some visitors. This creates a vibrant, but sometimes less-structured, environment.

  • Variety of Site Types and Cabin Rentals: The availability of tent sites, full-hookup RV sites (including pull-throughs), and cabins means the resort can cater to a wide array of camping preferences and budgets, making it accessible to many types of travelers.

  • Pet-Friendly Environment: For many Floridians, bringing their furry friends along is essential. North Beach Camp Resort is pet-friendly, allowing well-behaved pets (with some restrictions) to join in on the camping fun.

North Beach Camp Resort in St. Augustine offers a compelling and multifaceted appeal for Florida locals, making it a highly suitable choice for a diverse range of camping enthusiasts. Its premier location is undoubtedly its strongest asset. For Floridians, having a campground positioned directly between the Atlantic Ocean and the North River means unparalleled access to both saltwater and brackish water activities, all within a short, convenient drive from many parts of the state. This dual access provides endless opportunities for fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, beachcombing, and simply enjoying the iconic Florida sunrises and sunsets without venturing far from home.

The resort's blend of shaded, private sites with a natural "old Florida" feel is another significant draw. Furthermore, the on-site amenities, including a pool, laundry facilities, and critically, two excellent restaurants within walking distance, add a layer of convenience that elevates the camping experience. Not having to leave the campground for a delicious meal or a refreshing dip in the pool after a day at the beach is a significant advantage for locals wanting a hassle-free vacation. The close proximity to historic downtown St. Augustine means that cultural excursions, shopping, and fine dining are just a short drive away, providing a perfect balance between outdoor adventure and urban exploration.

In summary, North Beach Camp Resort is ideal for Florida locals seeking a highly accessible, amenity-rich, and lively coastal camping experience.
