Nerstrand Walk-In Sites

9438 170th St E, Nerstrand, MN 55053, USA

4.0
I was going to take away 2 stars because I think that $24/a night for one of these spots is simply too much but I added a star back because the trails accessible from these spots are so well maintained. Note: you need a reservation for both the walk-in and cart-in spots. I thought "walk-in" suggested first come first serve, but they're all spots that are a short walk away from parking. I was able to make a reservation for the same night I showed up, I went on a random Sunday night and had the place to myself. Very nice to be surrounded by trees and far from the noise of the main campground. - Comstock

Nerstrand Walk-In Sites Introduce

For Minnesotans yearning for a true escape into the tranquility of nature, away from the typical hustle and bustle of busier campgrounds, the Nerstrand Walk-In Sites in Nerstrand, MN, offer a uniquely appealing experience. Nestled within the enchanting Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, these sites provide a secluded and quiet retreat, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of one of Minnesota's last remnants of "Big Woods" forest.

Unlike conventional drive-in campsites, the "walk-in" designation at Nerstrand means your site is a short, scenic stroll from the parking area. This intentional design creates a more intimate and peaceful camping environment, far from the noise of the main campground. As one satisfied camper noted, it's "very nice to be surrounded by trees and far from the noise of the main campground." If you're seeking a genuinely serene setting where the sounds of the forest replace urban clamor, Nerstrand Walk-In Sites are an excellent choice for your next Minnesota adventure.

Location and Accessibility

Nerstrand Walk-In Sites are located at 9438 170th St E, Nerstrand, MN 55053, USA, within the expansive and beautiful Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. The park is situated about 11 miles southeast of Northfield, making it a relatively convenient drive for many Minnesotans.

While termed "walk-in," accessibility is well-managed. These sites are a short, designated walk away from a dedicated parking area, meaning you won't be hauling gear for miles. Visitors can easily find their way to the park via State Highway 19, State Highway 3, and County Road 29. A Minnesota State Park vehicle permit is required for entry, which can be purchased daily or annually at the park headquarters or entrance kiosk. This balance of natural seclusion and thoughtful accessibility makes Nerstrand Walk-In Sites an ideal escape for those seeking quiet immersion in the outdoors without being completely off-grid.
