★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had a great time at the Youth Deer Hunt in late January 2025. The staff was awesome and the park was wonderful. We were successful in the hunt and helped out the deer management for the park.We will definitely be back to hike and fish. They also cater to those with horses, they have pens near the camp area for horses. They have trails for horses as well.
February 02 · Matt in TEXASThis is an amazing park with clean bathrooms and a cabin for groups that has many windows, a great view of Lake Somerville and visitors are protected from the elements. There is a nearby cove which is protected by trees and makes kayaking easy on windy days. Rent through the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.
April 22 · Ann BoehmNice state park, awesome clean bathrooms/showers. Fun trails. Lots of coyotes!!! Not as many bluebonnets this year.
March 23 · Steph CUnbeknownst to me until arriving last week, Nails Creek and Birch Creek are basically two separate state parks on the same lake under the name Lake Somerville State Park. They are connected by the water and several trails along the western portion of the park, but I found I really preferred Nails Creek today. The weather was perfect and the wildflowers were really showing off. We saw several ant trails where they were working in a line carrying leaves and sticks and what not downhill which I thought was really cool. I also collect a lot of souvenir memorabilia which is never shown in these reviews so I included pics of the selection
March 29 · Morgan WhitneyThe most helpful check-in ranger I've encountered yet! She handed me a map with the route marked to my campsite, then mentioned she had a number of other sites available. I was super excited to trade in my close-quarters equestrian site and nab a more private and spacious spot on the water (site 42). Restrooms seemed brand new.The lake was great- it felt huge to me. The water was warm!
