Mountain View Cabins & Campground

4.0
Really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was a 10/10. The staff were very welcoming. The cabins are super cozy. Downtown Golden is only about a 15-20 min drive. Make sure to check out the viewpoint. They have a nice little hammock to chill in while you’re looking at the mountains. Nice to go for a walk in the morning and just soak in the fresh air. The dogs on the property were a nice surprise. Highly recommended and will definitely stay here again. - SD

Introduction / Overview

For us New Hampshire locals, when the call of the wild North Country beckons, "Mountain View Cabins & Campground" in Pittsburg, NH, stands out as a reliable and welcoming destination. This isn't just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it's a family-owned and operated establishment with a rich history dating back to the 1950s, evolving to offer a diverse range of accommodations from cozy cabins to well-equipped campsites. The heart of its appeal lies in its authentic North Country hospitality and its unparalleled access to the region's vast outdoor recreational opportunities.

Reviewers consistently praise the friendly and welcoming staff, often highlighting the personal touch provided by the owner, Judy, whose family has run the business for generations. As one long-time guest, returning for over 20 years, perfectly states, Judy's cabins and houses are "always clean, comfortable and located right on the snowmobile trails." This speaks volumes about the consistent quality and dedication to guest satisfaction that Mountain View Cabins & Campground provides.

While the name includes "campground," it's important for prospective visitors to know that the primary focus has shifted to RV camping and, prominently, their well-appointed cabins and rental homes. As noted by the campground's own rules, they "no longer offer tent camping sites, and tents are not permitted on RV sites" due to past flooding impacts. This refinement allows them to focus on providing top-tier experiences for RVers and cabin guests. Whether you're coming for the thrill of snowmobiling and ATV riding, the tranquility of fishing and hunting, or simply to "soak in the fresh air" and admire the "mountains," Mountain View Cabins & Campground serves as an ideal and highly recommended base for your New Hampshire adventures.

Location and Accessibility

Mountain View Cabins & Campground is ideally situated at 2787 N Main St, Pittsburg, NH 03592, USA. This prime location places it deep within New Hampshire's Great North Woods, specifically in Pittsburg, often referred to as the "Moose Alley" region. For us New Hampshire residents, this means direct access to some of the state's most pristine wilderness and renowned recreational areas, far from the crowds of more southern locales.

Pittsburg is the largest town by area in New Hampshire and is famous for its vast network of interconnected lakes and ponds, including Lake Francis and the Connecticut Lakes (First, Second, and Third). The campground's address on North Main Street (US Route 3) positions it centrally to these natural attractions and directly on the main thoroughfare for the region. The owner's office, located at "Happy Corner" 5 miles north of Pittsburg village, serves as a convenient check-in point and central hub.

The accessibility of Mountain View Cabins & Campground is particularly noteworthy for its direct connection to the region's extensive trail systems, making it a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts:

  • Snowmobile Trail Access: A major highlight, especially in winter, is the direct access to Pittsburg's vast network of groomed snowmobile trails. Guests can often ride directly from their cabins or RV sites onto hundreds of miles of trails.
  • ATV Trail Access: Similarly, during the warmer months, the campground offers easy access to the extensive ATV trail system in Coos County, allowing riders to explore the diverse terrain.
  • Proximity to Lakes & Rivers: The campground is strategically located between Lake Francis and First Connecticut Lake. There's a public boat launch at Lake Francis, and the Connecticut River is nearby, offering exceptional opportunities for boating, kayaking, and world-class fishing (trout and salmon).
  • Moose Alley: The region is famously known as "Moose Alley" for a reason, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, particularly moose, often seen along roadsides at dawn or dusk.
  • Hunting & Fishing: For hunters and anglers, Pittsburg is a prime destination, and the campground serves as an excellent base for these activities.

While Pittsburg is a more remote community, it still offers essential amenities. The Happy Corner Cafe, praised for its "filling and satisfying breakfast," is conveniently located "across the street" from the main office. The Buck Rub Pub, offering "good pub food," is a few miles down the road. For treats, Moose Alley Cones is also nearby. This balance of secluded wilderness and accessible local services makes Mountain View Cabins & Campground an incredibly convenient and appealing choice for New Hampshire locals seeking an authentic outdoor adventure.

Promotions or Special Offers

Mountain View Cabins & Campground, being a family-owned and operated business with a focus on long-term relationships with guests, tends to offer value through consistent quality, competitive pricing, and arrangements that benefit loyal and extended stays rather than flash sales. While specific, widely advertised "promotions" like coupon codes aren't typically highlighted, there are inherent value propositions and recurring offers for New Hampshire locals to consider:

  • Long-Term Stay Discounts: The cabins offer a "7 percent discount after four nights." This is a significant incentive for guests planning extended vacations, allowing them to save money on longer stays.
  • Varied Cabin Pricing: The different cabin types (Cabins #1 & #6, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7, and the larger Mallard Cove and Brookside homes) come with a tiered pricing structure that accounts for the number of guests. This allows you to select an accommodation that best fits your group size and budget, optimizing value.
  • Children's Rates: Children aged 3-15 are typically priced at $18 each, while children under 3 are free. This family-friendly pricing helps manage costs for families traveling with younger children.
  • No Hidden Fees (Transparent Pricing): While an 8.5% New Hampshire Rooms Tax must be added to all rates, the straightforward pricing structure and clear communication (as praised in reviews) mean you know what to expect without hidden surprises.
  • Direct Booking Benefits: Booking directly with a family-owned establishment often means more personalized service and potential flexibility. While not explicitly a "promotion," the direct relationship can lead to better understanding of your needs and potential accommodations. The website mentions that "One night RV site reservations are typically made available 7-14 days in advance of the date and taken at that time based on availability," suggesting that flexibility might exist for short-notice RV bookings.
  • Repeat Customer Value: The consistent return of guests for "20+ years" suggests that the overall value, excellent service, and prime location act as their most effective "promotion." Loyal customers recognize the quality and benefits of staying here year after year.
  • Winter & Off-Peak Value: While not a stated "promotion," typically, demand and thus prices for some accommodations might be slightly lower during the shoulder seasons (spring, fall) or deeper winter months (outside of major snowmobiling events) compared to peak summer or prime snowmobiling season. Contacting them directly for off-peak rates could reveal additional value.

For the most current and specific pricing details, including any short-term availability offers, it is always recommended to visit their official website or contact Mountain View Cabins & Campground directly. Their website (mountainviewcabinsandcampground.com) provides detailed rate information for each cabin type.
