Monarch Park Campground

Salida, CO 81201, USA

4.0
Monarch Park Campground was really nice. The campsites were spacious and spaced far enough apart from one another that we only caught glimpses of our neighbors. The place was clean and the hosts came by and checked on us the first night. It was in a good location, far from the city but only 30 minutes from Salida, a cute town with delicious ice cream. Hiking options nearby. But my favorite part was the stars. So many stars you can see, 100% worth the drive. - Lauren Carr

Monarch Park Campground isn't just a place to set up camp; it's a gateway to authentic Colorado wilderness, inviting you to explore, relax, and create unforgettable memories.

Visitors consistently praise Monarch Park Campground for its appealing qualities. The campsites are noted as "spacious and spaced far enough apart from one another that we only caught glimpses of our neighbors," ensuring a sense of privacy and tranquility often hard to find in popular camping areas. The campground maintains a high standard of cleanliness, and the presence of attentive hosts who "came by and checked on us the first night" adds a welcoming and supportive touch to your stay. While the daytime might bring some "road noise" from nearby Highway 50 and Monarch Pass, particularly from "air braking from trucks," this minor "con" is easily outweighed by the peaceful nights. As one reviewer enthusiastically stated, "it is very quiet at night and you can sit outside and enjoy your campfire in peace & quiet."

What truly sets Monarch Park Campground apart for Colorado residents is its unbeatable "Location, Location, Location!" Its proximity to incredible "mountain biking, hiking, & alpine lake fishing is fantastic!" making it a prime basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts. Coupled with the ease of access to charming towns like Salida, known for its "delicious ice cream," and Gunnison, it offers a perfect blend of remote adventure and convenient amenities. But perhaps the most enchanting feature, as highlighted by a visitor, is the night sky: "So many stars you can see, 100% worth the drive." This opportunity to gaze at an unpolluted cosmos truly elevates the experience at Monarch Park Campground, making it a must-visit for any Coloradan looking for a truly memorable outdoor escape.
