4.0
Our visit to this campsite was a complete letdown. The grounds were filthy, muddy, and poorly maintained. The porta potties were barely cleaned — I watched staff do a half-hearted job at best. To make matters worse, the customer service was abysmal. Staff were rude and unhelpful, and it was obvious that the newer employees hadn’t been properly trained. They tell you to arrive 15 minutes before your rental departure, but that’s misleading. If they don’t think serving you is “worth it,” they’ll turn you away — it’s all about their profits, not the guests. After reading through more reviews, it’s clear we weren’t the only ones treated this way.One staff member — possibly the manager or owner, maybe named Dave based on other negative reviews — was especially disrespectful. He had a terrible attitude, lacked professionalism, and showed no courtesy or sportsmanship whatsoever. There are far better camping sites in the area. Don’t waste your time or money here. If you’re looking for a positive outdoor experience, I’d highly recommend The Adventures instead — their staff were kind, respectful, and truly made us feel welcome. - Conchetta Riggi

The campground's position on Wally Road is significant, as this road itself is a well-known artery within the Mohican area, connecting various outdoor attractions and services. While Glenmont itself is a smaller community, the nearby town of Loudonville, often referred to as "Ohio's Camp & Canoe Capital," offers additional amenities, dining options, and supplies, usually within a 10-15 minute drive. This type of club is particularly beneficial for frequent visitors from Ohio.

Mohican Wilderness, with its location along the Mohican River in Glenmont, offers certain characteristics that might appeal to Ohio locals seeking an outdoor escape. Its suitability largely depends on individual preferences for a camping experience, particularly regarding the balance between raw nature and managed facilities.

For Ohioans who prioritize direct river access and a variety of water-based activities like canoeing, kayaking, and tubing, Mohican Wilderness is positioned as a strong contender. The ability to launch directly from or near your campsite for a river trip is a significant convenience. Furthermore, the presence of diverse camping options, from primitive sites that cater to a more rugged experience to electric/water and full hook-up sites for RVers, means it attempts to accommodate a broad spectrum of local campers. Those who enjoy a traditional camping setup, complete with a fire ring and picnic table, will find these basic amenities available. The stated family-oriented focus suggests an environment that aims to be suitable for all ages, with additional recreational amenities like a swimming pond and mini-golf.

However, it is important for prospective local visitors to temper expectations based on a mix of public feedback. While some reviews highlight the positive aspects like pleasant riverfront camping and the provision of basic amenities, other experiences suggest potential inconsistencies in maintenance and customer service. For instance, reports of "filthy, muddy, and poorly maintained" grounds, and dissatisfaction with cleanliness of facilities, suggest that the "rustic" aspect might sometimes lean more towards "neglected" for some visitors. Comments regarding "abysmal" customer service and unhelpful staff, including specific negative mentions of management, point to areas where individual experiences could significantly detract from a positive outdoor getaway. The mention of being turned away from rentals if "not worth it" to staff also indicates that a focus on "profits, not the guests" might influence some interactions.

In contrast, if an Ohio local is seeking a more consistently managed and customer-focused experience, other nearby options like "The Adventures" (presumably Mohican Adventures) are explicitly recommended by some reviewers for their "kind, respectful, and truly welcome" staff. Therefore, for locals, Mohican Wilderness could be suitable for those who prioritize extensive river access and a wide array of on-site activities and are willing to potentially overlook or navigate reported inconsistencies in facility upkeep and customer service. It caters to a desire for a range of camping styles within one location. However, for those who value pristine conditions and consistent, exemplary customer interactions above all else, it might be prudent to consider all available local options and review recent feedback carefully before making a reservation to ensure the best fit for their ideal Ohio outdoor experience.
