- Clean Restrooms and Hot Showers: A centrally located bathhouse serves the family campground. This facility provides flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers, which are frequently praised by visitors for being clean and well-maintained. Note: The washhouse is typically closed from December 1 to March 15.
- Drinking Water: Potable water spigots are conveniently located throughout the campground, ensuring access to fresh water.
- Firewood Sales: Firewood is available for purchase, often at the visitor center, allowing campers to enjoy campfires responsibly.
- Visitor Center: The park's visitor center offers exhibits, information, and a gift shop. It also provides Wi-Fi access for those who need to connect, as cellular service can be spotty in the area.

As Merchants Millpond Family Campground is part of Merchants Millpond State Park, a state-run facility, direct promotional offers like those found at private campgrounds (e.g., "buy one night, get one free") are less common. However, the value here lies in the affordable, consistent pricing and the incredible natural resources made accessible to the public. For North Carolina residents, the "special offer" is the consistent availability of a well-maintained, serene, and uniquely beautiful outdoor experience at a state park rate, which is typically very budget-friendly compared to private resorts.
While explicit promotional codes or percentage-off deals are not usually advertised, here's what residents can generally consider as ongoing benefits or opportunities for value:
- Affordable State Park Rates: Camping fees at North Carolina State Parks are generally very reasonable, making it an accessible option for many families and individuals.
- Seasonal Availability: While the washhouse closes for part of the winter, camping is available year-round, offering different seasonal experiences (e.g., quiet winter camping, vibrant spring, active summer). This flexibility allows locals to plan trips that align with their preferred outdoor conditions.
- Group Rates/Reservations: For larger groups planning a visit, reserving group campsites or the picnic shelter can offer a cost-effective way to gather and enjoy the park's amenities.
- Educational Programs: The park often hosts interpretive programs and educational events, which are typically free or included with park admission/camping fees, adding value to your visit.
It is always recommended to check the official North Carolina State Parks website or contact Merchants Millpond State Park directly for the most current information regarding camping fees, reservation policies, and any specific programs or events that might enhance your visit. They sometimes have special event days that offer unique experiences, such as the park's 50th-anniversary celebration that featured live music and educational programs.

Merchants Millpond Family Campground Reviews
A very nice and quiet campground in the winter months. The grounds, sites, and restrooms/showers are very clean and well kept. I've been here twice the past month, and it's probably going to become one of my goto's.
Feb 19, 2025 · Michael FirthGreat camping sites. Spacious, secluded and quiet. Easy to locate entrance off the main highway. Sites are primitive, with no electric hookup or water at the individual sites.
Nov 04, 2024 · Xplore Kayak ToursThis is one of the best state parks we’ve stayed at in North Carolina. Very private with large sites and nice, clean bathrooms with hot showers. The family campground is not at the visitor center. We checked in at visitor center and they gave us directions to campground. They also have firewood for sale at the visitor center so if you want wood buy it while you’re there. We will be back to this campground.
Dec 06, 2022 · Robin BA perfect small campground except that the dumpster emptying service came at 3 am and was very loud.Very wooded sites offer lots of shade. Kayaking in Bennets Creek (swamp) at the nearby state park is gorgeous.Very easy hiking trails are lovely tooNo playground.Very clean restroom and hot showers.Dog friendly.Picnic area available a couple of miles away near the state park visitor center.
May 21, 2024 · Hillary ColvinWonderful spot.Very quiet and very wooded. No light pollution if you're into star or moon gazing, but you'll have to go to a small (50 yards) circle of clearing near the showers/toilets to see the sky. Which, there are some strong lamps illuminating that. If you're a serious night sky gazer, you could set up a t-scope somewhere nearby but might have to drive a mile or so.No electric for the sites (coming next year, we were told), and one water outlet for the circle of 12-15 sites. Plenty of water available, at considerable pressure. Hold onto your water jug/carriers!GREAT area for tent campers, and for "boondocking" RVs and trailers. The shower/toilet facilities are great, with good hot water and lighting, and I saw large heater units so probably comfy in the winter. We were also told that there will be a whole new shower/toilet thing next year.Easy access to things up and down the road (gas station, roads to somewhere, the boat launch, etc.). There are a couple of trails leading straight out of the campground, and several trails in the Park that those trails tie into. We've found that NC is seriously upgrading a lot of their state park's trailer camping spots (hence "next year" for the campsites and the "necessary"). Other NC state parks that we've visited have been very well done. This campground was very well set up originally, but getting dated for modern tastes. It's still a great place. If you're a tent camper but would like a nearby shower and "necessary", this place is perfect. Spacious sites, so privacy. Seems to be a solid tradition of quiet among the campers whether tent or RV.
