May Queen Campground Reviews
Beautiful campground near a beautiful lake. We enjoyed the hiking trail – mostly flat with a few small inclines. Led up to a beautiful babbling Brook coming down from the mountain. Just spectacular!
Jul 02, 2025 · J. PellowGorgeous! On the shores of Turquoise Lake, the May Queen Campground provides a picturesque setting for camping and outdoor activities. With its proximity to the lake and access to hiking trails, it's a perfect spot for nature lovers.
Jul 25, 2023 · Liz DeHaanI hate to share a little secret, but this is probably the best campground in Colorado. Not very big, no traffic noise, sky full of stars and just the roar of the river to fill your ears. The is a great hike along the south side of the river, easy enough for a three year old and long enough that you can make it as challenging as you want.
Jun 22, 2023 · Matt GrovesSmall campground by Turquoise Lake. Some pull through spots, some back-in. It has a bathroom on either end, they were kept clean. The camp host was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the area. The lake is low with the current drought, and it was pretty hot for mid June. Camp sites 8 & 10 have no tree shade. Loved hearing the river at night and it's a quiet campground. Amazing views and hikes, great fishing! This is a great spot, highly recommend it.
Jun 15, 2021 · Hethyr FouseThe tent sites inland from the lake and stream on the hill side are very private. Some of the sites in the center or closer to the water are more exposed. Overall, camping at Turquoise Lake was a great experience. Even better if you can bring a boat to explore the lake. Sunset over the lake from a boat is something everyone biding should experience. The May Queen campsite does add significant travel time if coming from the Denver area. It’s at the far side of the lake from Leadville. Add an additional 30 minutes of driving to get around the lake from Leadville.
