While some areas offer a more primitive experience, others provide essential hookups, and all are designed to accommodate the unique needs of race-goers. From the convivial atmosphere to the direct access to the track, it’s a setup that caters specifically to those who want to be at the heart of the action. This article will provide Virginia users with a comprehensive look at what to expect when camping at Martinsville Speedway, covering its location, the services and features available, any special offers for race weekends, and why it's the ultimate choice for local fans.
Martinsville Speedway Camp Ground is located at 680 Clover Rd, Ridgeway, VA 24148, USA. This address places it just south of the city of Martinsville, within Henry County in Southern Virginia. Its proximity to the famed Martinsville Speedway, a legendary short track on the NASCAR circuit, is its defining locational advantage.
For Virginia residents, the accessibility to Martinsville Speedway is generally good, especially for those within the southern and central parts of the state:
From Roanoke, VA: The Speedway is approximately a 1-hour to 1-hour 15-minute drive southeast, typically via US-220 S. This makes it a very manageable day trip or weekend destination for many in the larger Roanoke Valley area.
From Danville, VA: For those in Southern Virginia, Martinsville Speedway is a relatively short drive, around 45 minutes to 1 hour, usually via US-58 W. This makes it highly convenient for local race fans.
From Greensboro, NC: Due to its location near the Virginia-North Carolina border, the Speedway is also easily accessible from Greensboro, NC, often just a 55-minute drive via US-220 N. This expands its reach to a significant number of race fans in the broader region.
From Richmond, VA: The state capital is a longer journey, typically around 2.5 to 3 hours, involving major interstates like I-81 S and US-220 S, or US-360 W and US-58 W. While feasible for a weekend, it's a more substantial trip.
From Northern Virginia (e.g., Fairfax, Arlington): For residents in Northern Virginia, the drive to Martinsville is approximately 4 to 4.5 hours, generally via I-81 S to US-220 S. This would necessitate a dedicated multi-day trip for race weekend.
The campground's location on Speedway property means direct, walkable access to the track for race attendees, which is a significant convenience. While the surrounding area is rural, the proximity to Martinsville provides access to essential services, restaurants, and other local attractions for campers during their stay. The official address ensures clear navigation for those traveling to the speedway for their race weekend camping adventure.
Martinsville Speedway Camp Ground offers a range of services designed to enhance the race weekend experience for campers, from basic amenities to more comprehensive options depending on the specific camping area.
Variety of Campsite Types: The Speedway provides different camping areas, including reserved RV sites (grass or compact gravel), and dedicated General Admission areas for tent camping. This variety allows campers to choose a spot that best suits their vehicle and preferences.
RV Sites with Hookups (Select Areas): While some areas are primitive, specific campgrounds like Turn 1 and Turn 3 Terrace Campgrounds offer electrical hookups and water. This provides a more comfortable experience for RVers needing power and water access at their site.
On-Site Water and Pump-Out Services: For campers without full hookups or those in primitive areas, water fill-ups and sewage pump-out services are available on-site, typically provided by roaming trucks during specific hours (e.g., 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. cash only). Campers can wave down a driver for service or add their name to a list at the campground entrance tent.
Complimentary Restrooms and Showers: Portable restrooms are complimentary and located throughout the campgrounds. Additionally, complimentary shower facilities are available, often in specific areas like the North Lot, providing essential hygiene services for all campers.
Private Portable Toilet Rentals: For added convenience, campers in select areas can rent private portable toilets for their individual campsites, with options for regular and ADA-compliant units, and cleaning services for an additional fee.
On-Site Propane Filling: Suburban Propane, an official partner, offers convenient on-site propane-filling services during race weekends, ensuring campers can keep their RVs fueled and appliances running.
Trash Management: Campers are requested to bag all trash and place it in large trash containers or at the end of their driveway for daily pickup, contributing to a clean environment for all.
Security and Rules Enforcement: The Speedway has policies and rules in place, with inspections during the day and night, to ensure compliance, maintain order, and enforce quiet hours (11 PM to 7 AM), contributing to a safe and enjoyable environment.
Martinsville Speedway Camp Ground offers unique features and highlights tailored for the ultimate race weekend experience, setting it apart from traditional campgrounds.
Unbeatable Proximity to the Track: The most significant highlight is direct, walkable access to the legendary Martinsville Speedway. Campers are immersed in the race atmosphere, with the sounds and excitement just steps away, making it an ideal choice for dedicated NASCAR fans.
Vibrant Race Weekend Atmosphere: Camping at the Speedway means being part of a large, enthusiastic community of race fans. The campgrounds come alive with pre-race tailgating, camaraderie, and a festive environment, creating memories that extend beyond the race itself.
Variety of Camping Options: With multiple camping areas such as North Lot, General Admissions, 3rd Turn, Backstretch, and others, Martinsville Speedway caters to different preferences. Campers can choose between grass or compact gravel sites, with site sizes generally around 18' x 40' or 20' x 45', accommodating various RVs and tents.
Essential Amenities On-Site: The provision of complimentary portable restrooms and shower facilities (in certain lots), along with on-site water fill-up and pump-out services (for a fee), ensures that campers have their basic needs met without leaving the Speedway property during race weekend. Propane-filling services are also a valuable convenience.
Pet-Friendly Policy: Martinsville Speedway welcomes pets in all its campgrounds (Infield, Daytona Blue & White, Phoenix, Richmond, Turn 1, 3, 4 Terrace, Backstretch, Martinsville & Tent Campgrounds), allowing fans to bring their beloved companions along for the race weekend, provided they are kept on a leash and owners clean up after them.
Strict but Fair Rules for Enjoyment: The Speedway enforces clear rules, including quiet hours (11 PM to 7 AM) and restrictions on certain motorized vehicles (ATVs, golf carts, etc., unless for ADA assistance). These rules aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all campers, balancing lively celebration with consideration for neighbors.
Flat and Level Sites (in some areas): While one review noted that not all areas are perfectly level, another specifically praised "Great camp sites flat and level." This suggests that many sites offer a convenient setup for RVs and tents, reducing the hassle of leveling equipment.
Security and On-Site Assistance: The presence of security and personnel like campground hosts ensures a managed environment, providing assistance and enforcing rules to enhance safety and compliance throughout the race weekend.
Martinsville Speedway Camp Ground’s "Promotions or Special Offers" are typically integrated into its race weekend packages and policies, rather than being standalone discounts found elsewhere. The primary "offer" is the comprehensive experience of camping on-site for a NASCAR event.
Race Ticket Requirement: A key aspect of camping at Martinsville Speedway is that you "Must have a race ticket to purchase a RV site." This links the camping experience directly to the race, ensuring that all campers are active participants in the event. While not a "discount," it's part of the bundled offering.
Included Parking Pass: Each RV or tent site reservation includes parking for one vehicle. Campers receive a tow pass at check-in, making on-site parking convenient. Any additional vehicles typically need to park in designated overflow lots (e.g., at Gate 8), which are usually free but separate.
Early Arrival and Late Departure Options: Campers can often arrive as early as the Saturday prior to race week and stay until Noon on the Monday after the race. This extended window allows for a relaxed setup and tear-down, maximizing the race weekend enjoyment without feeling rushed.
On-Site Services for Convenience: While water and pump-out services may incur additional fees ($35 for water fill, $45 for pump out), and private portable toilet rentals also have costs, the availability of these services directly within the campground during race weekend is a significant convenience. Suburban Propane's on-site filling service is another such "offer" of convenience.
Access to Complimentary Amenities: The provision of complimentary portable restrooms and shower facilities across various campgrounds offers essential amenities without extra charge, contributing to the overall value of the camping package.
Bundled Experience: The overall "promotion" is the seamless, immersive race weekend experience. By camping directly at the Speedway, fans gain easy access to the track, the fan zones, and the continuous excitement of a major NASCAR event, creating a unique value proposition for race enthusiasts.

Martinsville Speedway Camp Ground Reviews
Great camp sites flat and level. We enjoyed our race trip.
Oct 29, 2023 · Shelley PeggNot the most level place but great for the race.
Mar 31, 2025 · BG 1325Thought to walk . Fell in a hole ended up in er nothing broken just sprained .great track .
Nov 23, 2024 · Bob CzajaWonderful experience. Safe place to stay and have fun with like minded people.
Oct 10, 2024 · Steven SchumacherI recently travelled to Martinsville for race weekend and stayed at the campground. It is general admission, which was kind of cool because I got to pick what I thought was my ideal spot instead of arbitrarily being assigned a spot. I was glad I was in a tent, the thought of trying to level a trailer there is anxiety-inducing. I like that it is a short walk over to the track and midway. I didn't like the lack of porta-potties, it was a long walk on uneven ground in the middle of the night and not worth it to spend $100 for a private. It was a fun experience, and would have been more so if the weather had cooperated, lol.
