Margie's Cove West Campground Introduce
For Arizonans who crave a camping experience that is rugged, authentic, and truly off the beaten path, Margie's Cove West Campground is a well-kept secret waiting to be discovered. Located on public land, this is a dispersed camping area that provides a genuine sense of adventure and seclusion. It’s not your typical manicured campground with paved roads and full hookups. Instead, it offers a raw, natural experience that appeals to those who are well-equipped and ready to explore. As one reviewer cryptically noted, "I'm leaving this place a mystery. One of my favorite spots thus far." This sentiment perfectly captures the allure of Margie's Cove—it's a place that feels like your own private discovery.
The unique nature of this campground is a significant draw for a specific type of outdoor enthusiast. The reviewer's comment about it being "in the middle of off-roading public land property" and recommending a "4x4" vehicle is a crucial piece of information. This is a destination for those with a sense of adventure, who enjoy navigating unpaved roads and exploring the vast public lands of Arizona. The remoteness of the site is its greatest asset, as it leads to incredible dark skies, perfect for stargazing. A camper who spent a night there noted the "dark skies great for star viewing," a powerful endorsement for anyone looking to escape the light pollution of Phoenix.
While the camping is dispersed and rustic, there are a few welcome amenities that make the experience more comfortable. The presence of a "nice pit toilet," as mentioned by a reviewer, is a huge plus for a primitive site. Having a public restroom and running water, as the public data suggests, is a rare and valuable feature in such a wild setting. This small comfort makes a significant difference for campers, especially families with kids. The availability of picnic tables also adds a touch of convenience, providing a dedicated space for meals and gatherings. These simple amenities show that while the experience is rustic, there's still some thought put into making it a welcoming place.
For Phoenix residents, Margie's Cove West is the perfect "close get away" as one reviewer described it. It offers a quick and convenient escape from the city without the need for an extensive road trip to Northern Arizona. The proximity allows for a spontaneous weekend trip or even an overnight stay, providing a much-needed break from urban life. The chance to explore "a few trail spurs" for hiking or off-roading also adds to its appeal as a dynamic recreational area. It’s a place where you can feel truly disconnected and immersed in nature, all while being a short drive from home.
The fact that it's "good for kids" and "dogs allowed" makes it a great family-friendly option, provided everyone is prepared for the primitive nature of the site. It’s an ideal place to introduce children to the joys of rustic camping, teaching them about the desert environment and the importance of respecting nature. The freedom of dispersed camping allows for more space and flexibility than a traditional campground, which is a major benefit for both families and their pets.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I'm leaving this place a mystery. One of my favorite spots thus far. I do recommend a smaller tent due to the very natural windy conditions. Nice pit toilet as mentioned by others. Warning...this place is in the middle of off-roading public land property. 4x4 recommend.
April 02 · JoAnna EdgeSpent a night here for exploring the area. Had no issues driving in a Bronco Sport, nothing challenging just some ruts. Basic disperses camping but has a bathroom which is a plus. Quite and dark skies great for star viewing. A few trail spurs to explore as well as hiking.Great spot if you live in Phoenix and want a close get away but would go out of my way just to visit this.
November 28 · El León Azul PhotographyWas able to make it in a low-clearance vehicle.BLM maintained restroom, although it needed some TLC / cleaning.Picnic tables and a few fire pits. It’s very remote and not much of a campsite comparatively, but if you’re in the area and need a place to crash, then this spot works great. This drive through the desert to get here was surprisingly clean too. Pack it in - pack it out. Thanks folks!
April 09 · SonikNikAbsolutely lovely camping area. The road access is challenging. High clearance vehicles only as there are deep grooves to navigate. Bring a lot of water. At least a gallon per person per day.
March 27 · Boris MartinWe went here for my Bday. 3 days 2 nights. Tears in my wife's eyes because she didn't want to leave. Beautiful, clean, and many miles of exploration. Good for camping, hiking, or just a day trip. We will definitely be back.
