This hidden gem provides a serene sanctuary for those looking to escape the urban clamor and immerse themselves in the quiet beauty of San Diego County's rural backcountry. Renowned for its "beautiful, quiet and peaceful" atmosphere, the park truly lives up to its reputation as a haven of tranquility, making it an ideal destination for California locals seeking genuine relaxation and a deeper connection with nature.
What sets Ma Tar Awa Viejas Camper Park apart is its harmonious blend of natural splendor and practical amenities. The presence of "very large oaks in the meadow" creates an almost sacred ambiance, where seeking shelter beneath their expansive canopies "felt like a sanctuary." This natural landscaping provides not only shade and beauty but also a profound sense of peace. While it caters to various camping preferences, including those who may not require "full hook ups" but appreciate the available water access in the meadow, the park also serves as a valuable resource for "long-term RV rates and good amenities for long-term living," as noted by satisfied visitors.
Despite its remote feel, which is precisely part of its charm, Ma Tar Awa Viejas Camper Park prioritizes guest security and comfort, with a strong emphasis on "clean and well patrolled" areas and the convenience of a "gate pass" for controlled access. The "pleasant and helpful" staff further enhance the welcoming environment, ensuring that every visit is as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible. It's a place where the wild beauty of Southern California meets thoughtful amenities, creating an inviting retreat for both short-term adventurers and those seeking a prolonged connection with the tranquil countryside.
Ma Tar Awa Viejas Camper Park is situated at 25 Browns Rd, Alpine, CA 91901, USA, placing it in the scenic and somewhat secluded backcountry of San Diego County. This location offers a distinctly rural and "very remote" experience, providing a true escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. While its remote nature is a key part of its allure, it's important for visitors to understand the implications for accessibility, especially from the perspective of a local Californian planning their trip.
The park is accessible by vehicle, which is a necessity, as one reviewer pointed out: "no walking distance for anything, you must have a vehicle." This emphasizes that guests should arrive prepared with their own transportation, as public transport options are limited in this wilder area. Despite its remoteness, Alpine is generally within a reasonable driving distance for residents of San Diego and surrounding Southern California communities. The drive typically involves transitioning from major highways to more rural roads, offering a scenic journey that sets the tone for a nature-focused retreat.
It's crucial for visitors to be mindful of the natural environment, as the location implies "much more rural and even wild area, plenty of desert creatures live out here." While the property does have "fences around the property," visitors should remain aware of their surroundings and be prepared for potential encounters with local wildlife. Given the potential for "extremely windy and hot" conditions, especially at certain times of the year, preparedness is key. Locals planning a visit should bring ample "water" and "prepare for sun," ensuring a comfortable and safe experience in this unique desert-adjacent environment. The remote setting, while requiring self-sufficiency, ultimately offers an unparalleled sense of peace and immersion in nature that is highly valued by those seeking a genuine escape.

Ma Tar Awa Viejas Camper Park Reviews
Beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The oaks in the meadow were very large. Being underneath them felt like a sanctuary. Water is available in the meadow. We did not need full hook ups so the location worked great for us. Staff was pleasant and helpful. We arrived well before 5:00 to get our gate pass. It is nice to have the security.
May 28, 2025 · Lauren BachSo, my friends live out here in this park, and it has long-term RV rates and good amenities for long-term living. However, it is very remote, no walking distance for anything, you must have a vehicle, and it can get extremely windy and hot out here, you are going into a much more rural and even wild area, plenty of desert creatures live out here, bring water, prepare for sun, and watch for wildlife, there are fences around the property, but that doesn't keep everything out.
Jun 18, 2025 · Samuel BeallThe ladies Working at this RV park have to be the sweetest, most loving women I have ever dealt with. The park is also beautiful, quiet and well maintained. Thanks, Jessica for doing your job with such kindness.
Aug 29, 2024 · Teresa RegerI called to reserve a spot for 1 night but was denied due to having a service dog that is part pitbull. Sad that a group who has been discriminated against is discriminating.
Jan 08, 2025 · Kathleen Maxine Keith EakinsIf I could leave a ZERO STAR review I would.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT STAY HERE. Jessica the front desk lady will lie to you about checkout and then scream at you when she gets caught and is confronted. She was the nastiest most unprofessional person I've ever dealt with. She screamed and yelled at me and my wife on the top of her lungs saying she's not in the mood to deal with me or anyone today..What are you working in customer service for then?? This whole argument is because I was told to check out at TUESDAY at 8am because today monday is a holiday and her boss isnt there until Tuesday. So I was told, :quote: "as long as your gone by 8am Tuesday it's ok" :end quote. Today the boss showed up early and she realized that she was in trouble for allowing us to stay an extra day and when I went to the office to confront her all she could say is I know I told you Tuesday but my boss is here now and you have to go. I kept asking why did you tell me Tuesday then and she acknowledged she told me Tuesday but she doesn't care and she's not in the mood to deal with anyone. I stay at hundreds of RV sites and this is by far the worst park I've ever been at. I will never stay here again
