Lynchburg KOA

Unnamed Road, Monroe, VA 24574, USA

4.0
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Lynchburg KOA, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff was incredibly friendly and informative, making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The campground itself is well-maintained, with a beautiful lake located right at the front of the grounds, providing a scenic and peaceful atmosphere. Each site is equipped with a fire pit, which added to the camping experience, and the full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) were a huge convenience. The campground is about a 30-minute drive off of Route 29, and there’s a dollar store and gas station just 10 minutes away, which came in handy. However, I recommend coming fully prepared with supplies, as the front office only has a limited selection. One of the highlights of the campground is the pool, which is perfect for cooling off during the spring and summer months. Just keep in mind that it’s only open during these seasons. There’s also ample parking available if you have more than one vehicle, although you may find the space on your site a bit tight for additional parking.Overall, I highly recommend the Lynchburg KOA site for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience. Whether you’re there for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, this KOA has everything you need to make your trip a memorable one. - Andy Harvey

Location and Accessibility

The Lynchburg KOA, officially known as Lynchburg / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Holiday, is conveniently located at 6252 Elon Rd, Monroe, VA 24574-3012, USA. Despite the initial "Unnamed Road" information, this specific address places it strategically in Monroe, Virginia, offering excellent access to both the amenities of the Lynchburg area and the breathtaking natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Its location is a key advantage for us Virginians looking to explore. The campground is notably just 1 mile off the famous Blue Ridge Parkway, between mile markers 61 and 62. This direct proximity to "America's Favorite Drive" means campers have easy access to countless scenic overlooks, hiking trails, waterfalls, and natural attractions along this iconic route.

For those traveling from major Virginia hubs:

  • From the Blue Ridge Parkway: Exit VA130 between mile marker 61 & 62, turn left (East), and the campground is 1 mile on the left.

  • From Lynchburg, VA: Take US29 Business North, turn left on VA130 (Elon Rd.), and drive approximately 15 miles to the campground on the right.

  • From I-81: Take Exit 175, turn right on US11 North for 1.6 miles, then turn right on VA130 (Elon Rd.) and continue for about 17 miles to the campground on the left.

While the campground itself provides a serene setting, convenience is not sacrificed. A dollar store and a gas station are just 10 minutes away, which can be very handy for last-minute supplies or refueling. However, as noted by campers, it's always wise to come fully prepared with most of your supplies, as the front office offers only a limited selection.

Beyond the immediate vicinity, the Lynchburg KOA serves as an excellent central point for exploring a wealth of Virginia's historical and natural attractions. It's a short ride to significant historical sites such as the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, and Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest. This blend of accessibility to both amenities and attractions makes Lynchburg KOA an incredibly well-placed and convenient basecamp for any Virginian adventure.
