Louisville North Campground

Campground, Children's camp ★3.0

900 Marriott Dr, Clarksville, IN 47129, USA

3.0
This campground was is packed tight and is priced high for what you get. I have a Class A with 4 slides. Last night with my slides open and the neighboring Class A’s slides open there wasn’t enough room to walk between the RVs.Staff is nice and friendly, however cats roam freely in the general store and the smellof cat is very potent & that’s coming from someone living with a cat. If you need a place to stay and have no other options this is your place. Also literally on the train line so expect trains at all times including the middle of the night. The upside is your close to town, but other options would be suggested - Brook Swientisky

For Hoosiers looking to explore the vibrant city life, cultural attractions, and entertainment options of Louisville, Kentucky, while still enjoying the comforts of their RV or a cozy cabin, Louisville North Campground in Clarksville, Indiana, presents a strategic base. This isn't your sprawling state park experience designed for deep nature immersion; instead, it's an urban-friendly campground tailored for convenience and accessibility to metropolitan amenities. It's a pragmatic choice for those whose primary goal is to be close to the action, offering a full suite of hookups and a no-frills approach to getting you comfortably situated for your city adventures.

Louisville North Campground is strategically located at 900 Marriott Dr, Clarksville, IN 47129, USA. This places it directly across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville, Kentucky, making it exceptionally convenient for exploring the city's myriad attractions. For Indiana residents, its location just off I-65 ensures quick and easy access from virtually anywhere in the state. Whether you're driving down from Indianapolis, west from Bloomington, or east from Evansville, the major interstate connections make the journey straightforward.

The proximity to Louisville is a significant highlight; guests can literally be in downtown Louisville or Jeffersonville in minutes, often within a 5-minute bike ride to the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge, which connects directly to Louisville Waterfront Park. This allows for seamless exploration of museums, restaurants, sporting events, and cultural sites without the hassle of city driving and parking for large RVs. The address also places it near local Clarksville amenities, including shopping centers, restaurants, and attractions like the Falls of the Ohio State Park. While the campground is in an urban setting, close to train tracks and the interstate, its unparalleled access to the Louisville metropolitan area makes it a highly desirable location for those prioritizing city exploration over secluded wilderness camping.

Louisville North Campground offers a range of services and amenities designed to cater primarily to RVers and those seeking convenient, amenity-rich lodging close to an urban center.

  • RV Sites with Full Hookups: The campground features numerous RV sites, including both pull-through and back-in options. All RV sites come with full hookups, providing 20, 30, and 50 Amp electric service, water, and sewer connections, a major convenience for RV travelers.

  • Tent Sites: For those who prefer traditional camping, tent sites are available, often with water and electric hookups, allowing for more comfort than primitive camping.

  • Camping Cabins: The campground also offers one-room camping cabins that sleep up to four people, equipped with a double bed and bunk beds, providing a comfortable alternative for non-RVers or those without camping gear.

  • Clean Restrooms and Showers: Guests generally find the restrooms and showers to be clean and well-maintained, an essential for any comfortable camping experience.

  • Laundry Facilities: Laundry machines are available, though some reviews suggest they are located within the convenience store, requiring a walk through it. Washers are functional, and rates are reportedly affordable.

  • Free WiFi and Cable TV: Staying connected is easy with complimentary wireless internet and cable TV (up to 30 channels on antenna TV) at every RV site.

  • On-Site Convenience Store/Market: A market and snack bar are located on-site, offering propane, gas, and diesel for sale, along with general groceries and camping necessities, adding to the convenience.

  • Propane Refills: Propane is available for sale by the gallon, a useful service for RVers.

  • Friendly Staff and Directional Assistance: Guests frequently praise the "nice and friendly" staff who often assist with parking and directing campers to their sites, making check-in smooth.

  • Pet-Friendly: Dogs are allowed at the campground, though they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet when outside the vehicle. There are pet walking areas available.

  • Access to Hotel Pool: While the campground itself may not have a dedicated pool, some information suggests guest access to a heated indoor pool at a neighboring hotel, a great amenity during hot weather.

Despite its urban setting and compact nature, Louisville North Campground offers several features and highlights that appeal to its target audience.

  • Unbeatable Proximity to Louisville: This is by far the biggest draw. The campground's location just minutes from downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville, and a short bike ride to the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge, makes it an ideal base for exploring city attractions like the Louisville Slugger Museum, Churchill Downs, Louisville Zoo, Louisville Mega Cavern, and the vibrant dining and entertainment scenes.

  • Full-Service RV Amenities: For RVers, the complete package of 50-amp full hookups (electric, water, sewer), along with free WiFi and cable, provides all the comforts of home while on the road.

  • Helpful and Friendly Staff: Consistently, reviews highlight the positive interactions with staff, who are described as "wonderful and helpful," often going the extra mile to assist campers with parking and other needs. This personal touch significantly enhances the stay.

  • Safe and Clean Environment: Campers generally feel safe at the campground, and facilities like bathrooms and laundry are noted as clean, demonstrating a commitment to guest comfort and hygiene.

  • Urban Accessibility for Cyclists: For those who enjoy biking, the close proximity to the Ohio River Greenway and the Big Four Bridge opens up extensive cycling opportunities along the river and into Louisville's parks.

  • Convenience for Derby Visitors: Its location is particularly ideal for attending major Louisville events like the Kentucky Derby, providing a close and often more affordable lodging option during peak times.

  • On-Site Services: The presence of a market with propane and fuel saves campers trips outside the campground for essential supplies.

It's important to set realistic expectations based on some common feedback: sites can be "packed tight" with "little room to gather around the campfire" for some, and the campground is "literally on the train line," meaning train noise can be a factor, though some campers report not being bothered by it at night. The presence of free-roaming cats and a "potent" cat smell in the general store is also mentioned by some. However, for many, the trade-off for the unparalleled location is well worth it.
