If you're a local Tennessean seeking a serene escape from the hustle and bustle, this campground provides a charming, off-the-beaten-path option for your next adventure. Whether you're an RV enthusiast or prefer the simplicity of tent camping, Little Pond Mountain Campground aims to be a memorable destination for your outdoor pursuits in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.
This campground caters to individuals and families who appreciate a more rustic and quiet setting, away from the crowds often found at larger, more commercialized parks. Its appeal lies in its quaint charm and the opportunity it presents to truly embrace the natural surroundings of East Tennessee. While it offers a laid-back atmosphere, it's important for visitors to be aware of the nuances of such a setting to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay. We'll delve into the specifics of what makes Little Pond Mountain Campground a noteworthy option for your Tennessee outdoor adventures.
Little Pond Mountain Campground is strategically situated at 3266 US-321 Scenic, Butler, TN 37640, USA. This location places it in a scenic part of Johnson County, Tennessee, known for its rolling hills, dense forests, and proximity to the stunning Watauga Lake. For local residents of Tennessee, reaching the campground is generally straightforward, though it’s important to note that its "off the beaten path" nature means you'll be venturing into a more secluded area. Access is primarily by car, and the drive itself can be part of the scenic experience, offering glimpses of the region's natural beauty.
While the exact distance will vary depending on your starting point within Tennessee, the campground’s address on US-321 Scenic ensures relatively direct access from various directions. It’s advisable for visitors to utilize GPS navigation, but also to be mindful that cell service can be spotty in mountainous regions, including the area around the campground. This contributes to the desired feeling of being truly disconnected, but also highlights the importance of having directions downloaded or printed beforehand. The proximity to Watauga Lake also means that water-based activities are easily accessible for campers, adding another layer of recreational opportunity to your stay.
Little Pond Mountain Campground provides essential services designed to accommodate both RV and tent campers, focusing on providing a comfortable yet rustic outdoor experience. Based on public information and visitor feedback, here are the key services you can expect:
RV Hookups: The campground offers sites equipped with power, water, and septic hookups. This is a significant convenience for RV owners, allowing for a more comfortable stay with access to essential utilities.
Camping Sites: Both RV and tent camping sites are available. While specific details on the number and variety of sites are best confirmed directly with the campground, the provision for both types of camping caters to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.
On-site Management/Host: The presence of a camp host, such as "Kat" mentioned in a review, indicates that there is someone available on-site to assist campers and ensure a smooth experience. A responsive owner, "Jeff," is also noted for providing necessary information like gate codes and Wi-Fi details.
These services aim to provide a foundational level of comfort and convenience, allowing campers to focus on enjoying the natural surroundings. It’s worth noting that while essential services are provided, the campground's appeal leans towards a more natural and less amenity-heavy experience compared to larger resort-style campgrounds.
Little Pond Mountain Campground stands out for several features and highlights that contribute to its unique appeal, particularly for those seeking a genuine outdoor experience in Tennessee:
Off-the-Beaten-Path Location: For many, the greatest highlight is the campground's secluded nature. It offers a true escape from urban environments, providing a quiet and peaceful setting that allows for deep relaxation and immersion in nature. This appeals greatly to those who enjoy a more primitive or traditional camping experience.
Proximity to Watauga Lake: While not directly on the lake, the campground's location near Watauga Lake is a significant draw. This provides opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and other water sports, enhancing the recreational value of a stay at Little Pond Mountain Campground.
Quaint Charm: Visitors have noted the campground's "quaint charm." This speaks to its unique character, suggesting a non-commercialized, more personal camping environment that can feel more authentic than highly developed parks.
Pet-Friendly Environment: While specific policies should always be confirmed, the mention of dog waste in a review implies that pets are allowed at the campground. This is a crucial feature for many campers who wish to bring their furry companions along on their outdoor adventures.
Responsive Management: Despite initial communication hiccups some visitors have experienced, the availability and responsiveness of the owner, Jeff, to provide essential information like gate codes and Wi-Fi access is a notable positive. Similarly, the dedication of the camp host, Kat, in assisting campers is a significant asset, contributing positively to the overall guest experience.
These features combine to create a compelling offering for campers who prioritize tranquility, natural beauty, and a less structured camping environment.

It is always recommended to contact the campground directly prior to your visit, especially to confirm availability, rates, and any specific requirements or policies. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The location was great if you like an off the beaten path style stay. We were attending a wedding and decided to stay in our camper nearby which is how we ended up here. The rates were decent, and the campground had a quaint charm to it, but it was lacking in other areas. Firstly there is no service at the campground. No problems there, we’re in the mountains, I just wish the email confirmation would have stated that along with a gate code to circumvent the initial confusion. When we arrived we realized a gate code was needed to enter. We checked emails and, no code. Decided to swing over to Shirley’s (an adjacent restaurant, now closed) to see if wifi was available in order to call. We got ahold of the owner Jeff who texted over the gate code and wifi info. Now that it was handled we headed over to site #5. We began to set up only to immediately step in dog poop. Enormous amounts of dog poop surrounded the power, water and septic hook ups. While cleaning off our shoes in the outdoor shower I noticed bent nails in the gravel. Backing up one more foot and the RV tire would have definitely been punctured. It was so frustrating to run into these issues as we really enjoyed the area and concept. After setting up camp, Jeff texted that he didn’t see payment. We then had to send confirmation over and he said that he did in fact see it. It’s one of those ‘you get what you pay for’ places. Wish I had better things to say but whoever is responsible for the upkeep truly needs to take better care of the property and management needs to send out codes, etc prior to arrival.
December 05 · S hartvery clean kat the camp host is very nice and goes out of her way to help ! The only thing I don’t like is the traffic that comes in and out after hours I think they should close the gates at ten to prevent the loud cars and trucks from entering after hours
March 03 · Rob GrigsbyThis is a quiet safe family friendly kind of place great prices on the lake great ppl Jeff and his family and employees treat everyone like family always willing to help with anything they offer a clean shower and bath house Laudry room hiking trails horse shoe pit &corn hole a nice communal area 20 full hook up sights a a few primitive tent sights I would definitely recommend the stay they also offer a cabin rental and a big bell tent rental also so if your looking for an rv sight tent sight or cabin rental I highly recommend them !!!!!!!
April 25 · RogerOwner operated with some tasty food options in walking distance. Small and quiet park with a clean bathroom. 10/10 would stay here again.
September 19 · AERIAL ASCENSIONSMuddy retirement home:Whole place is a mud pit..slipping and sliding... Fell several times while walking. Had to plug tires 5x due to picking up nails and screws (campground used to be a junkyard). Sites aren't level and greywater tank wouldn't drain. No fun to be had here, Its prohibited. I personally seen the manager stop campers from setting off fireworks on July 4th. Kids on "playground" told to shut up. Wifi hardly EVER worked. Owner sent letters to campers stating it wasn't a trailer park...which means he thinks of campers there as trailer park trash. After leaving, owner attempts criminal trespass on those wishing to come back and visit friends still camped there. You won't like it...no one there does.
