Little Goose Campground Introduce
For those who hear the call of the wild and seek an authentic, off-the-grid camping experience, Little Goose Campground in Wyoming is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Tucked away in the breathtaking Bighorn National Forest, this is not your typical RV park with full hookups and manicured lawns. Instead, Little Goose offers a rugged, primitive escape that rewards the adventurous spirit with stunning natural beauty, peace, and quiet. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature.
Little Goose Campground is a destination for the dedicated outdoors enthusiast. Reviews from fellow campers consistently highlight the gorgeous scenery and the secluded, well-spaced sites. It's an ideal spot for those who want to set up a tent and enjoy the sounds of the Little Goose River and the surrounding wilderness. The atmosphere is quiet and clean, making it perfect for families looking for a back-to-basics camping trip where children can explore and play freely in a safe environment.
One of the most notable aspects of this campground is its raw, untamed nature. This is a place where you'll find rock fire pits and vault toilets rather than paved pads and showers. The lack of modern amenities is not a drawback; it's the very essence of the experience. It ensures that the campground remains quiet and less crowded, preserving the pristine environment for those who are willing to make the journey. This sense of solitude and connection to the wilderness is what makes Little Goose Campground a truly special place to camp.
While the name might suggest a simple spot, the experience is rich with opportunity. The location is a gateway to a network of trails and natural wonders, and the beautiful, cool temperatures provide a welcome respite during the warmer months. For those with the right vehicle and mindset, Little Goose Campground offers a slice of Wyoming's wilderness that is increasingly hard to find. It's a place where you can camp by the river, listen to the whisper of the trees, and feel like you have the entire Bighorn National Forest to yourself.
The unique challenges and rewards of this campground are part of its charm. From the rugged access road to the primitive facilities, every aspect of Little Goose is a testament to the raw beauty of Wyoming. It's a place that asks you to be prepared and in return, offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you refreshed and inspired.
Location and Accessibility
Little Goose Campground is located on Forest Rd 314, near the town of Buffalo, WY 82834, USA. Its remote location in the Bighorn National Forest is a major part of its appeal, but it also means that accessibility is a key consideration for visitors. The road leading to the campground is noted by campers as being rugged and challenging. It is described as having large washouts, big rocks, and even creek crossings, which is why it is highly recommended to have a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle to access the area.
This is not a destination for a standard car or a large, low-clearance RV. As one reviewer noted, while it's possible for some larger vehicles like a 5th wheel or popup camper to make it, the road is unforgiving and requires a great deal of skill and caution. Once you're on the road, there is no backing out, which further emphasizes the need for proper preparation and the right vehicle. The seclusion, which makes the campground so peaceful and beautiful, is a direct result of its challenging access.
The campground is situated right by the Little Goose River and is on a main trail, making it a great base camp for hikers, anglers, and nature enthusiasts. The address, Forest Rd 314, is a starting point, and from there, the journey becomes part of the adventure. The surrounding area is beautiful, with cool temperatures that provide a refreshing escape from the heat of lower elevations. The peaceful solitude is a direct result of its secluded location and challenging access, making it a perfect spot for those seeking a true wilderness experience.

What is worth choosing
Little Goose Campground is a worthy choice for a very specific kind of camper: the one who values solitude, natural beauty, and a rustic experience over modern conveniences. It is the perfect antidote to the crowded, often noisy, commercial campgrounds that dot the landscape. The very challenges of getting to Little Goose are what make it so special; they act as a natural filter, ensuring that only those who are truly committed to a wilderness experience make the trip. This results in a quiet, clean, and peaceful environment where you can truly immerse yourself in the natural world.
The sense of seclusion is a major draw. With well-spaced sites and the Bighorn National Forest as your backyard, you have plenty of room to spread out and enjoy your surroundings without feeling like you're on top of your neighbors. The proximity to the Little Goose River adds to the appeal, offering a beautiful soundscape and a place to cool off or try your hand at fishing. For those with a tent and a love for the outdoors, the primitive setup is not a limitation but an invitation to connect with nature in a more profound way.
Furthermore, the fact that the campground is located on a main trail makes it an excellent base camp for exploring the surrounding area. Whether you're into hiking, off-roading, or just taking a leisurely stroll, the access to the wilderness is unparalleled. The cool mountain air and the opportunity to see wildlife and stunning vistas make the journey worthwhile. Little Goose Campground is not for everyone, but for those who seek a genuine, unpretentious, and beautiful camping experience in the heart of Wyoming, it is absolutely the right choice.

Little Goose Campground Reviews
Little Goose is a gorgeous campground! Well spaced sites which some have metal fire rings and some are rock pits boast plenty of room to host a small group or family. The vault toilet is located centrally in the campground and kept clean. However, the National Forest Service site states it is 4x4 accessable. That is TRUTH! Must have high centered 4x4 due to large washouts and large rocks in the road....and don't forget the creek crossings! But all worth it!!!
June 28 · Jen WThis little campground is very quite clean. They do have restrooms. Camping spots are primitive. It's right by the Little Goose river. My son got his 5th wheel down here but I don't see how. There was a popup camper in there. It's right on a main tail. Once you get started in there, there is no backing out. It is beautiful. Pretty cool temps.
September 04 · Kimberly DeBuskVault toilets are closed for decommissioning. Bring your shovel.Fence needs repairing. Broken in a few places and this allows cows in the camping area. Lots of cow chips.Road into campground is very rough and rocky.
August 24 · Melissa EcklesThis whole area is absolutely gorgeous but it's 100% impossible to access without high clearance 4x4. Ended up camping in the woods off of a more accessible road and still woke up to amazing views.
June 18 · Dylan AndersonGreat little spot!
