LITTLE COTTONWOOD GROUP Introduce
For us Wyoming locals, a memorable camping trip often means getting a spot where you can truly be with your group, surrounded by the stunning natural landscape. Little Cottonwood Group Campground, nestled in the scenic Snake River Canyon within the Bridger-Teton National Forest, is an exceptional option for just that. As one enthusiastic camper put it, this is a "badass spot!" perfect for family and friends to gather and enjoy a "great time" together. Its secluded, reservation-only nature ensures a private experience, making it an ideal choice for reunions, celebrations, or just a large group of friends wanting to disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors together.
The core of the Little Cottonwood Group Campground experience is its dedication to group camping. It’s designed to be a private haven for your party, allowing you to relax and enjoy the company of your fellow campers without the interruptions of a regular public campground. While some might find the reservation-only policy and the difficulty of getting a spot challenging, the effort is well worth it for the sense of exclusive privacy you gain. This dedicated group site ensures that you have the space and amenities needed to make your gathering comfortable and memorable, from a campfire circle for storytelling to plenty of room for activities.
Despite its private feel, the campground is not a blank canvas. It comes with essential services that support a rustic yet comfortable stay. Campers appreciate the running water and the ample space for tents. The fact that it is a group site means that the focus is on communal enjoyment and shared experiences, from cooking over the fire to exploring the nearby wilderness. Little Cottonwood Group Campground truly embodies the spirit of group adventure, providing a solid foundation for your Wyoming getaway.
Little Cottonwood Group Campground is located on US-89, Jackson, WY 83001, USA. Its prime location places it in the stunning Snake River Canyon, just a short distance from the town of Jackson. This position offers a unique combination of beautiful, remote scenery and convenient access to local services and attractions. The proximity to US-89 makes it relatively easy to get to, although its secluded nature ensures that you feel a world away from the main road.
The campground is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot. This thoughtful inclusion ensures that everyone can participate in the group camping experience. The on-site parking, while limited for larger trailers, provides ample room for cars and is conveniently located. The dirt parking area is well-maintained, allowing for easy access to the group campsite.
As a reservation-only group campsite, it requires advanced planning, as spots are "very hard to get." This highlights the site's popularity and the value it offers. Securing a reservation means you have a confirmed space for your entire group, removing the uncertainty of a first-come, first-served campground. It's a strategic move for anyone planning a large gathering, ensuring that your trip will be a success from the moment you arrive.
Little Cottonwood Group Campground provides a specific set of services tailored to meet the needs of a large group. The amenities are designed for convenience while maintaining a rustic, outdoor feel.
Restrooms: The site is equipped with vault toilets, providing essential restroom facilities for the entire group. This is a crucial amenity for a large gathering, ensuring comfort for all campers.
Running Water: Potable running water is available on-site. While there are no electricity or dump station hookups, the access to fresh water is a significant benefit for drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene.
Picnic Tables: The group campsite includes multiple picnic tables, providing ample space for communal meals and activities. This makes it easy to set up a shared dining area for your entire party.
On-site Parking: The campground offers on-site parking for multiple vehicles. While there may be limited space for large trailers, there is "lots of room for tents" and plenty of space for cars, ensuring everyone in the group has a place to park.
Little Cottonwood Group Campground offers a host of features and highlights that make it a premier choice for group camping in the Jackson area. These elements combine to create a special and memorable outdoor experience.
Exclusive Group Site: The most significant feature of Little Cottonwood is that it is a single, large group campsite. This means your group has the entire area to itself, providing a level of privacy and freedom that is impossible to find in a regular campground. This makes it perfect for loud conversations, games, and late-night campfires without worrying about disturbing other campers.
Good for Kids: This is an excellent spot for families with children. The large open area allows kids to "freely roam" in a safe, contained environment. The gate at the entrance can be kept closed, creating a private drive where kids can ride bikes and run around without the worry of oncoming public traffic.
Ample Space: The site provides a great deal of space for a variety of setups. While it may only have room for "maybe 3 small trailers," there is plenty of room for multiple tents, hammocks, and cars, making it versatile for different group sizes and camping styles.
Natural Setting: The campground is beautifully situated and offers a serene setting. Located in the Snake River Canyon, it is surrounded by a rich tapestry of pine and aspen trees, with the Snake River running below. This provides a picturesque backdrop for your activities and a great opportunity for wildlife watching and enjoying the natural scenery.

When planning a group camping trip in Wyoming, Little Cottonwood Group Campground is undoubtedly a top-tier option, despite the challenges of securing a reservation. The primary reason it is worth choosing is its exclusive nature. Having a private, secluded spot for your group is a luxury that transforms a camping trip into a truly special event. It allows for a more relaxed and communal atmosphere, where you don’t have to worry about quiet hours or disturbing neighboring campers. The ability to close the gate for added privacy and safety is a huge plus, especially for groups with children.
Another major advantage is the thoughtful combination of a wilderness setting with essential amenities. While it lacks electricity and a dump station, the presence of running water and restrooms meets the basic needs of a large group. The spaciousness of the site, which one camper noted as being big enough for "as bigger group as you wish," ensures that everyone has room to spread out and feel comfortable. The natural beauty of the Snake River Canyon provides an inspiring backdrop for your trip, with opportunities for hiking and exploring the area right at your fingertips.
Finally, the value of the experience is in its exclusivity and convenience. It's a place where you can create your own little world for a weekend. While the reservation process can be competitive, the reward is a stress-free and enjoyable group camping trip. For those who prioritize privacy, space, and a beautiful natural setting for their group get-together, Little Cottonwood Group Campground is a perfect choice and well worth the effort to book.
