Leesville Lake South Fork Campground is conveniently located at 4131 Deer Rd SW, Bowerston, OH 44695, USA. This address places it squarely within Carroll County, a region known for its rolling hills and scenic beauty in eastern Ohio. The campground's proximity to Leesville Lake means that access to water-based activities is straightforward, making it an excellent choice for those primarily interested in fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the lakeside views.
For those traveling by vehicle, the campground is accessible via well-maintained roads, though it's always wise to exercise caution on rural routes. It's important to note that the campground primarily operates on a first-come, walk-in basis for travel trailers and tent sites. Many of the sites tend to be occupied by seasonal campers, particularly during peak times, so planning ahead or arriving early is advisable if you're seeking a specific type of spot.
A significant highlight of the location is its direct connection to the Leesville Lake South Fork Marina. Specific promotions or special offers for Leesville Lake South Fork Campground are not consistently advertised as fixed, long-term discounts for the general public on primitive or standard electric sites. Given that many sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and seasonal campers often occupy a significant portion, traditional "promotions" in the sense of discounted rates are less common than for reservation-based parks.
However, it is always recommended for potential visitors to directly contact the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) or the Leesville Lake South Fork Marina office. They may offer:
Seasonal Rates: For those interested in extended stays, seasonal rates are often available for RV sites, which can offer a cost-effective option for long-term campers.
Group Rates: If you are planning a trip with a larger group, it is worth inquiring about any potential group discounts or special arrangements that might be available.
Off-Season Pricing: Sometimes, lower rates may be offered during the off-peak seasons (typically outside of summer and major holidays) when demand is lower.
Marina Specials: The Leesville Lake South Fork Marina, while separate, might occasionally run specials on boat rentals, bait, or marine supplies that could benefit campers.

Leesville Lake South Fork Campground offers a compelling retreat for Ohio locals seeking an authentic outdoor experience without venturing too far from home. Its suitability for residents stems from several key factors, blending accessibility with a genuinely refreshing natural environment.
Firstly, for those living within Ohio, the campground’s location in Carroll County makes it a manageable drive for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation. It provides an immediate escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering a chance to reconnect with nature without extensive travel. The fact that it operates largely on a first-come, walk-in basis for many sites, particularly for tent campers, can be a double-edged sword, but for spontaneous adventurers, it presents an opportunity to simply arrive and find a spot, which is a convenience not always found with reservation-heavy parks.
The core appeal for locals lies in Leesville Lake itself. Known as a premier muskie fishing destination, it's a dream come true for Ohio anglers. Beyond fishing, the lake's 10 horsepower limit on boats ensures a remarkably quiet and peaceful environment, a rarity on many larger, more crowded Ohio lakes. This makes it perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying a leisurely pontoon boat ride with family. This serene atmosphere fosters a genuinely relaxing experience, allowing visitors to truly unwind amidst the natural beauty.
Furthermore, the campground's connection to the Leesville Lake South Fork Marina significantly enhances the local appeal. The marina offers convenient rentals for kayaks, paddleboards, and pontoon boats, meaning you don't need to own expensive equipment to enjoy the water. It also provides essential supplies like bait, tackle, and general camping necessities, ensuring that locals can easily top up their provisions or rent what they need on arrival. This integration of camping and marina services creates a comprehensive recreational hub.
While some reviews highlight the primitive nature of some sites and the pricing for certain accommodations, for locals who appreciate a more rustic camping experience and prioritize access to a beautiful, quiet lake, Leesville Lake South Fork Campground provides excellent value. It’s a place where families can create lasting memories, where individuals can find solitude on the water or trails, and where the natural splendor of Ohio truly shines. Leesville Lake South Fork Campground Reviews
Most expensive campsite I've been to since hiking 500 miles from the Atlantic in Delaware a month ago.$42 for primitive tent site only. No shower facilities.Very good view, and good location for those wishing to go fishing. For thru hikers on the Buckeye trail I'd suggest finding alternative accommodation options for value for money.
Apr 24, 2024 · Aimer From OrkneyVery small campground. It is first come, walk-in, only for travel trailers. Most of the sites were occupied by seasonal campers. We made the mistake of driving down believing we would find a spot...nope! Looks like there are some great tent sites,; there was signage that a permit is required. On a huge positive note: the marina here has a kayak launch and a 2 lane boat ramp. The lake is beautiful and quiet. 10 hp max. So it's not a place you can water ski. Nice family place. The marina rents kayaks, paddle boards and pontoon boats. We had our own kayaks and really enjoyed our 10 mile paddle along the south shore!
Jun 13, 2019 · Michelle ReeseMike the camp manager was very helpful. Actually lots of season campers were. Gave us a plug to take the 30 amp service down to a 15 amp extension cord for phone charger. You can camp despite what sign says about covid and seasonal campers only. Docks are seasonal campers only. You can tie your boat to a tree and beach it. Launch is very close with a steep ramp. 38 for site with electric and only found bathroom with no shower.
