Location and Accessibility

Kinnikinnick (Laurance Lake) Campground is situated at Laurance Lake Rd, Mt Hood, OR 97041, USA. This location places it within the stunning Mount Hood National Forest, north of Mount Hood itself and just outside of Parkdale, Oregon. For Oregon locals, accessing this tranquil retreat is part of the adventure. From I-84 in Hood River, travelers will head south on Highway 35 towards Parkdale, then follow signs to Laurance Lake.

It's important for prospective visitors to note that the road to Laurance Lake can be quite rough, particularly at Eliot Creek, where there might be a stream of water running across it. High-clearance vehicles are often recommended, and it's advised that trailers may not be suitable for this section of the road. While this might sound like a challenge, it contributes to the campground's remote and untouched feel, helping to deter excessive crowds and preserve its natural integrity. Despite the road conditions, the payoff is a beautifully secluded setting with incredible lake views.

The campground's proximity to Laurance Lake offers immediate access to water-based activities. Furthermore, it's approximately a 30-minute drive to nearby ski resorts, providing opportunities for summer hiking and other outdoor adventures during the warmer months. While the campground offers a sense of being "off the grid" with limited cell service, the nearby town of Parkdale can provide essential supplies, making it a convenient balance between wilderness immersion and practical necessities. Its secluded yet accessible nature makes it an ideal destination for those truly looking to unplug and immerse themselves in Oregon's natural splendor.
