For Indiana residents seeking a straightforward camping experience with a focus on fishing, Ken-Do Lake Campground in Clarks Hill offers a unique proposition. This local establishment aims to provide a relaxed atmosphere for campers and fishing enthusiasts alike. However, based on recent public feedback, its current status and conditions might vary. This article will provide an overview of Ken-Do Lake Campground, drawing from available public information to help Hoosiers understand what to expect and whether it aligns with their outdoor recreation plans.
Ken-Do Lake Campground has been known as a family-owned and operated campground that also features a stocked pay lake, meaning no fishing license is required on-site. This particular feature makes it an appealing spot for those who love to fish but prefer a simpler, more accessible option than navigating state regulations for public waters. The concept of a stocked lake, open for daily fishing, suggests a focus on providing immediate recreational opportunities for visitors.
While some reviews highlight positive aspects like friendly staff and a great place to fish, other recent feedback indicates potential inconsistencies with its operational status and the condition of the lake. It's important for prospective visitors to consider all available information to manage expectations. This article will strive to present a balanced view, based solely on the provided data, to help local Indiana users make informed decisions about their next camping or fishing trip.
Ken-Do Lake Campground is located at 9230 Heaton Rd, Clarks Hill, IN 47930, USA. Clarks Hill is a small town, and the campground's position on Heaton Road suggests a tranquil environment, away from major highway noise.
For many Indiana residents, particularly those in the central and western parts of the state, Clarks Hill is within a reasonable driving distance. The convenience of its location, described as "just 10 minutes from Lafayette" in some public records, makes it a potentially accessible option for a quick getaway or a day trip for fishing. However, potential visitors should be aware that a rural location might mean less immediate access to extensive amenities beyond the campground itself. It's advisable to verify directions and current road conditions, especially if relying on navigation systems that might not always account for the most recent local changes.

Ken-Do Lake Campground presents a mixed but potentially appealing proposition for Indiana locals, particularly those who are avid anglers or seeking a straightforward, less commercialized camping experience close to home. The primary draw is undoubtedly its stocked pay lake, which eliminates the need for a state fishing license and provides immediate opportunities for a relaxed day of fishing. For many Hoosiers, the convenience of having such a facility nearby, especially one reported to be open for extended hours during peak seasons, is a significant advantage.
The campground's family-owned and operated nature, along with a positive mention of friendly and caring staff, suggests that when operational, it strives to offer a welcoming and personable environment. This can be a refreshing change for those accustomed to larger, more impersonal camping resorts. For local families or individuals simply looking to spend a quiet day or weekend by the water, fishing and enjoying the outdoors without extensive planning, Ken-Do Lake Campground could be an ideal spot.
However, it is crucial for prospective visitors to heed the recent reviews that highlight concerns about the campground frequently appearing closed and the lake being heavily covered in weeds, giving an abandoned impression. These contrasting observations suggest that the operational status and physical condition of the campground may be inconsistent or have changed over time. Therefore, while the concept of Ken-Do Lake Campground holds appeal for its fishing focus and local convenience, it is strongly recommended that any Indiana resident planning a visit call ahead using the provided contact information to confirm current operating hours, availability, and the condition of the lake and facilities. This proactive step will ensure that their expectations align with the reality on the ground, allowing for a truly enjoyable local outdoor experience, whether it's a successful fishing trip or a peaceful night under the stars.

I've been to this place several times, and it's never been open. The lake has always been completely covered in weeds, and the place almost looks abandoned.
Jun 26, 2025 · Martin DexterAbsolutely love this place!!! Very friendly and caring staff. Great place to fish.
May 13, 2023 · Lindsay HewittIf I could give them no stars I would went today and didn't catch nothing for the second time I'm pretty convinced that me my step mom and fiance that there are no fish in this damn lake. You never know when there open when they tell you there open and go there you have to wait to get in they are supposed to be open at 8am and nobody opened the gate until 10am and no one got to the bait shop until 10:10am. So for who ever wants to come out here to Ken Do Lake you better call the liars because this lake has no dame fish unless you want to pull in a pound of moss every time you reel in so at least you'll catch something.
