With its strategic location, diverse accommodation options, and a reputation for warm service and delicious homemade food, Johnson's is a staple for both seasoned Glacier explorers and first-time visitors alike. This article will provide a comprehensive look into what makes Johnson's Campground and RV Park a truly special destination for Montana locals looking to immerse themselves in the Glacier experience.
Johnson's Campground and RV Park is perfectly situated at Babb, MT 59411, USA. Its location is arguably one of its most significant advantages, as it’s "less than a mile from the Glacier National Park entrance" (specifically the St. Mary entrance on the East side). This unparalleled proximity allows campers to maximize their time exploring the park, including easy access to the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road, Many Glacier, and Two Medicine areas.
The campground is perched "hundreds of feet above 2 beautiful lakes" (Lower St. Mary Lake and Upper St. Mary Lake) and "surrounded by dramatic rocky peaks," offering "world-class views of Glacier National Park and the Rocky Mountain Front" directly from many of its campsites. Being on a hilltop means these panoramic vistas are a constant feature of your stay. While RV sites are described by some as being "on a relatively steep hill" and potentially "tight" or "not very level," Johnson's offers a variety of site types to accommodate different preferences and vehicle sizes. The main access roads to Babb are well-maintained, ensuring a smooth journey to this prime location, even for larger RVs. Johnson's is a seasonal business, typically open from mid-May to mid-September, aligning perfectly with Glacier National Park's peak visitation season.
- Diverse Accommodation Options: Johnson's offers a wide range of lodging choices, including 82 RV sites (with full hookup, electric+water, and dry camp options), 75 tent sites (some shaded in wooded meadows, others with views), and various cabins (furnished, unfurnished camping cabins, and cottages like the "Glacier Cottage" and unique handmade "Furnished Cabins" with private bathrooms).

- Exceptional Proximity to Glacier NP: Being just 0.3 miles from the St. Mary entrance and the Going-to-the-Sun Road makes Johnson's an incredibly strategic and time-saving base for park exploration. Its closeness to Many Glacier (approx. 30 minutes drive) is also a significant advantage.
- Family-Owned Hospitality: Three generations of the Johnson family have provided "super friendly staff" and a welcoming atmosphere, creating a sense of genuine care for the campground and its visitors.

Jul 07, 2025 · David BainThese photos were taken from the campsite. We were in awe. Hundreds of feet above 2 beautiful lakes and surrounded by dramatic rocky peaks rising high above our heads. We will be back.
Jun 20, 2025 · Mike BlakeLoved the location, however we ended up getting charged far extra for what we had signed up for. When we arrived (we had pre payed), they charged us extra, and claimed the cost that was purchased online was a deposit. It never said anything of that matter at checkout. Wish this was communicated earlier. We ended up paying 4x than what we had purchased online.
Jul 01, 2025 · Javon HavelkaSpring time is the best time to visit, The campground had plenty of spaces available, a little more crowded on the upper level camp area. I would classify this as rustic counry. The cabins are so adorable, I would give this adorable campground five stars but they do need several updates. The office staff was so amazing and fun to visit with.. If you want to go to the restaurant and want gluten-free, don't bother, but it is decorated so adorable. The views are ten star, hands down.
Jun 10, 2023 · D. FrancisNice view. Poor utility placement - sewer at one end of site, power and water at the other. Sites are narrow, dirt, and unlevel. Our full hook up site had no power at the box and we had to move to another site. Premium price. Poor quality.
