J & W Campground Introduce
Welcome, fellow Louisianans, to your candid and informative guide to J & W Campground, a long-standing fixture in Livingston, Louisiana, that primarily caters to those seeking an affordable and extended stay in their RV. This campground offers a down-to-earth atmosphere that has attracted residents looking for a budget-friendly living option over the years. If you're a local in Louisiana considering a more permanent or semi-permanent RV setup, or even a brief stop, understanding the unique nature of J & W Campground is essential. This article will provide a clear, factual overview, drawing heavily from direct customer experiences to give you a realistic picture of what to expect, from its location and available services to its key features and why it might be suitable for specific needs within the Louisiana community.
J & W Campground has evolved over time, transitioning from a more traditional campground with a store and river access to a simpler, more affordable RV park focused on long-term residents. This shift means that while some amenities may no longer be available, the core appeal of affordability and a generally laid-back environment remains. We understand that finding suitable long-term RV accommodations in Louisiana can be a challenge, and J & W Campground fills a particular niche. By presenting a balanced view based on real customer reviews, we aim to help you determine if this campground aligns with your expectations for an extended, economical stay, or a brief stopover, within the beautiful state of Louisiana.
J & W Campground is located at 24691 Setton Rd, Livingston, LA 70754, USA. This places it in Livingston Parish, a region of Louisiana known for its natural waterways, including the Tickfaw River. While not directly on a major interstate, its location in Livingston provides relatively good access for locals within Southeast Louisiana, being roughly 30 minutes from Baton Rouge and about an hour from New Orleans or Slidell, making it accessible for those seeking an escape from larger cities.
The campground is situated off of main roads, leading to a more secluded feel. While general accessibility is good, the internal grounds and roads within the campground itself have received mixed reviews regarding their condition. Some feedback indicates that the grounds were once more "decent" but have seen a decline, with potential issues like muddy areas, especially after rain. It’s important for visitors to be prepared for potentially rustic internal conditions, particularly for those with larger rigs or who prefer paved, perfectly maintained roads. Despite these internal challenges, the overall location in Livingston offers proximity to outdoor activities in the wider parish, providing a sense of being "hidden in nature" while still connected to local towns and services.
- Full Hookup (FHU) RV Sites: Offers water, electric (including 50 Amp), and sewer connections for RVs, essential for comfortable, self-contained living.
- Laundry Facilities: Washing machines and dryers are available, though some reviews indicate they may not work properly and could lead to wasted money. This suggests variable reliability for this amenity.
- Restrooms and Showers: Public data indicates the presence of restrooms and showers, which are standard for most campgrounds.
- Dump Station: A facility for emptying RV wastewater tanks.
- Wi-Fi: Indicated as available, allowing guests to stay connected (though quality can vary in campgrounds).
- Pet-Friendly: Pets are allowed, though there is a specific rule against Pitbulls, and owners are expected to manage their animals responsibly.
- Picnic Tables: Present at sites.
- Fishing: Opportunities for fishing are available on-site or nearby, as the area is known for its waterways.
- Boating: Access to boating is implied, likely on nearby water bodies.
- Playground: A designated area for children's recreation.
- Affordable Long-Term Stays: A primary highlight is the campground's affordability, particularly for long-term rentals. Rates have increased over the years, but it remains a go-to option for those seeking a budget-conscious extended stay in their RV.
- Down-to-Earth and Peaceful Atmosphere: Many long-term residents describe the environment as "down to earth" and "peaceful," fostering a relaxed living experience.
- Access to Fishing and Boating: The campground offers or is in close proximity to opportunities for fishing and boating, tapping into Louisiana's rich aquatic recreation. While direct river access may have changed, the area's natural features still provide this appeal.
- Laid-Back Landlord/Management: The landlord is described as "fairly laid back," which can contribute to a more relaxed and less restrictive living environment for long-term residents.
- Full Hookups for RVs: The provision of full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) ensures that RVers have all necessary utilities for comfortable living, whether for short or extended periods.
- Variety of Sites: Although some sites are noted to be in "poor shape" for the lower price points, there is still a range of sites available to accommodate different RV sizes and budgets.
- Community Vibe (for long-termers): For those who reside there for extended periods, there's a sense of community, with "friendly and sociable" residents, both people and animals.

For inquiries regarding J & W Campground, particularly for current availability, updated rental rates, and specific site conditions, it is highly recommended that prospective campers contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers. Given some of the mixed reviews regarding service and maintenance, direct communication before your visit can help clarify expectations and ensure a smoother experience, especially if you are considering a longer-term stay or have specific needs regarding amenities like the laundry facilities. J & W Campground in Livingston offers a specific type of outdoor experience that can be highly suitable for certain Louisianans. Primarily, its affordability makes it a compelling option for those seeking an economical long-term RV living solution. For locals who need an extended place to stay, perhaps due to work, relocation, or simply a desire for a more permanent base, the ability to find a spot at a reasonable monthly rate is a significant advantage.
The "down to earth" and generally "peaceful" atmosphere, coupled with what is described as a "laid-back" landlord, can foster a sense of community for its longer-term residents. For many Louisianans, this type of friendly, less formal environment resonates well, providing a comfortable and unpretentious place to call home. The on-site full hookups are a crucial utility for RV living, ensuring convenience for daily needs.
While some external reviews point to areas needing improvement, such as the condition of internal roads, laundry facilities, and the closure of former amenities like the store and river access, it's clear that the campground prioritizes affordability. This trade-off is often acceptable for budget-conscious locals who understand that lower costs may come with fewer modern conveniences or pristine conditions. The potential for fishing and boating in the surrounding Livingston Parish area further adds to its appeal for those who enjoy Louisiana's natural waterways.
Ultimately, J & W Campground is best suited for Louisianans who value affordability and a long-term, relaxed atmosphere over luxury amenities or perfectly manicured grounds. It caters to a segment of the population looking for a functional and welcoming base, whether for an extended period or a simple overnight stop, where the focus is on practical living and a sense of community rather than a high-end recreational experience.

J & W Campground Reviews
Down to earth people with a endless activity, fishing boating camping and so on. Seems like a peaceful place. Love it.. After staying a couple of days . The son of the man was very rude and yelled and cursed when I asked for my receipt. Washers and dryers don't work properly and pretty much wasted my money trying to use them. After them taking my money and not giving my receipt when he took it I asked four days later and was cursed at. Not a good place to be after allp
Oct 29, 2024 · Cassie O'NealI've lived here off and on throughout the years only bc of the affordability. When I first moved in years ago the grounds were decent. They had a store to that sold food, drinks and misc items. The store is closed down now. There once was access to the tickfaw River here however from rumors I've heard someone was hurt and they were sued for 300k so they closed it off. Pitbulls are not allowed! The landlord is fairly laid back I guess. They have however went up in rent drastically. It's now 650 to 850 to get a camper here the ones that are 650 are in poor shape!
