Accessibility to Iron Mountain COE is generally straightforward for residents across Arkansas. From the nearby city of Arkadelphia, the drive is relatively short, typically just a few minutes. For those traveling from the state capital, Little Rock, the campground is approximately an hour and 20 minutes southwest, making it a very feasible option for weekend trips. The route usually involves taking I-30 West towards Texarkana and then a short drive off the interstate.
If you're coming from Hot Springs, another popular Arkansas destination, Iron Mountain COE is conveniently located only about 30 to 40 minutes away, making it an excellent choice for combining a city visit with a lakeside camping experience. Even from more distant areas of the state, such as Fort Smith (approximately 2.5 to 3 hours) or Texarkana (about 1 hour), the drive is manageable and scenic. While the campground is situated on a "road" that might feel slightly off the main thoroughfare, it's generally well-marked and navigable by most vehicles, including RVs. The slight remoteness contributes to the quiet and peaceful ambiance that many visitors cherish, providing a true escape from urban noise.
Iron Mountain COE campground provides essential services and facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for campers, focusing on core amenities typical of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites. While not a full-service resort, it covers the fundamental needs for an enjoyable outdoor experience.
- Campsites with Electric Hookups: The campground offers numerous campsites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups (30 and 50 amp available). This is a significant advantage for RV campers and those using electric appliances.
- Water Spigots (Shared): While individual site water hookups might not be universal, shared water spigots are available for fresh water access within the campground loops. Visitors should be prepared to fill their tanks upon arrival.
- Sanitary Waste Disposal Station (Dump Station): A convenient dump station is typically located near the entrance, allowing RV campers to dispose of wastewater before departure.
- Restrooms with Flush Toilets: Clean bathhouses with flush toilets are available, providing a more comfortable alternative to primitive facilities.
- Showers: Hot showers are provided within the bathhouses, a welcome amenity after a day of outdoor activities.
- Picnic Tables: Each campsite is generally equipped with a picnic table, perfect for outdoor meals and gathering.
- Fire Rings: Designated fire rings or pits are available at campsites, allowing for safe campfires and outdoor cooking.
- Swim Beach: A designated swim beach offers a safe area for cooling off and enjoying the waters of DeGray Lake.
- Boat Launch: A boat launch ramp provides direct access to DeGray Lake for boating, fishing, and other water sports.
- Pet-Friendly: The campground is welcoming to pets, allowing visitors to bring their furry companions (standard rules regarding leashing and cleanup apply).
- Reservable Sites: Sites are typically reservable through the Recreation.gov system, allowing campers to secure their preferred spot in advance.
It's worth noting that while essential services are provided, some visitor feedback indicates that shared water spigots might be in need of repair at times, and there are no full hookups (water and sewer directly at each site), only electric. Campers should prepare accordingly by filling up their fresh water tanks before arriving.

- Level Campsites: Many sites are noted for being "level," which is a significant advantage for RV and trailer campers, making setup much easier and more comfortable. While some sites might require minor leveling, many offer a stable foundation.
- Clean Bathhouses: Despite some general maintenance comments, the "bathrooms & showers were clean," providing a comfortable and hygienic experience for campers using these communal facilities. The availability of hot showers is a valued amenity.

It is important to acknowledge recurrent feedback regarding pervasive and aggressive ants at some sites, requiring campers to bring appropriate repellents or treatments. Additionally, some shared water spigots and playground equipment may be in need of repair, and the beach area could sometimes benefit from cleanup. Iron Mountain COE Reviews
Tranquil place to camp. We were only passing through for the night, but will be back for a longer stay. The sites were level, easy to find, great views, it has a bath house that was clean.
Jun 28, 2025 · Ashley PateA potentially great place to camp that lacks good facilities maintenance. Bathrooms & showers were clean. No full hookups (electric only) & the shared water spigots need repair. Quick trail to a beach that needed cleanup. Playground equipment in need of repair. The ants are invasive & aggressive; this needs to be addressed! Many site pads need repair. If I could give it a 3.5 rating, I would as it still has beautiful scenery, quick water access, & cheaper fees.
Jul 09, 2024 · stephanie wolcottIf you are looking for a place with a nice view, spot 51 is great for that! I am new to RVing and still learning the ropes. I missed the fact that this place does not have water hookups at the site, but that’s on me. They had a spigot at the center of our area as well as at the entrance but I was not about to move my camper after barely getting into the spot the night before! This was an overnight stop for us, lesson learned to look into things further next time. It was a little too far off the route for us and I should not have driven into the campground at night. The roads are very narrow and I had to exit the park just to turn around. The pad site is a mixture of asphalt, boulders and dirt/brush. Definitely not for a newbie like me, but I will visit again when I have more experience. Great price and views for sure.
Jun 04, 2023 · James SmithBeautiful and peaceful. Not many people here. We're in a 38' trailer and we are finding a few camping spots. You find a site, take picture of barcode and it take you to website to see if it's reserved. You can also see if other sites are available at the same time. I love this concept of reserving if your just staying for a night.
Oct 22, 2020 · Renee J. YaegerNice campground with beautiful lake views. Be aware that the sites are electric only. If you ride mountian bikes, the trails are a ton of fun!!!
