The campground specifically sits on the western shore of Toledo Bend, which is the largest man-made lake in the South, spanning both Texas and Louisiana.
Accessibility to Indian Mounds Campground is generally straightforward. The location on Toledo Bend Reservoir is a significant highlight. The reservoir is a prime destination for bass fishing and other water sports, and the campground's lakeside spots offer direct views and access to this vast body of water. Indian Mounds Campground - Sabine National Forest Reviews
My family and I love it here. My wife and her family have been camping here for the past 40 years... My wife and I even got married out here right next to the lake! The Sabine River Authority does a great job keeping the bathrooms clean and stocked while also emptying the trash bins daily.Come out to the Mounds if you're looking for a great place to fish, camp, and relax with the family!
Apr 16, 2025 · Stephanie (Just my opinion)The spots are good size with picnic tables. Many with view of lake. There is nice boat dock. No power, water spickets in certain areas to access. Be aware wild hogs come up to camp areas one had 3 little babies startled me at first lol. Alot of large turtles enjoying sun on log and birds that seem to have their spots too. Overall I loved it there.
May 18, 2025 · Stacy MissDecent campground. There are only a handful of waterfront sites at this one but the rest aren't all that bad. They do have what appears to be new vault toilets. That is appreciated. There were running water at some sites, we just ran a water hose over from an adjacent site. No electricity at this campground. We were down in October to find east texas salamanders and do a little bank fishing. Very enjoyable trip. Be prepared, the nearest civilization (Hemphill) is around 30 minutes away. We will definitely be back another day.
Oct 30, 2024 · Matt AppletonNice “State Park-style” campground…campsite’s immediately adjacent to each other. No fire rings or grills, just picnic table and lantern pole, but also no fees right now. Saw one site with running H20, toilet and trash bins are on site. Few sites right on the water (first to be taken) and free boat ramp adjacent to camp. Caught couple fish to eat from camp…bonus! Mixed hardwood/piney woods are pretty. Crows scavenged everything left on the picnic table while we slept…tortillas, buns, catfish bait, bag of peanuts, and powder creamer! Most bass fisherman launching boats are tools, but nothing new, lol. This lake is friggin Huge!! Snag 1 or 2 adjacent sites for privacy, 😜
