Indian Lake Islands Campground - Campsite #20

4476 NY-30, Indian Lake, NY 12842, USA

5.0
This was a fantastic site. There were several excellent swimming spots and fishing point. On the southern end it was like a blueberry farm!! So many fresh blueberries to pick and eat. The setup of the site was nice and I would only suggest that the campground cover the main area with wood chips. We got a few days of strong rain and it was a muddy mess. - Shaun Marosy

Indian Lake Islands Campground - Campsite #20 Introduce

Imagine waking up to the sounds of nature, surrounded by pristine waters and lush forests, with your very own private stretch of shoreline or an entire island to call your own. Campsite #20, in particular, stands out as a fantastic choice within this incredible setting, offering not just a place to pitch your tent but a vibrant natural playground. It's a place where you can truly disconnect, embrace the simplicity of outdoor living, and create unforgettable memories with family and friends. This campground is a haven for those who cherish privacy, natural beauty, and a deep connection with the wild, making it an ideal destination for an authentic Adirondack adventure.

Location and Accessibility

Indian Lake Islands Campground is uniquely situated on Indian Lake, with the general access point located near 4476 NY-30, Indian Lake, NY 12842, USA. This address places it firmly within the vast and breathtaking Adirondack Park in Upstate New York, a region synonymous with unparalleled natural beauty, extensive forests, and pristine lakes. For residents across New York State, particularly those in the Capital Region, Central New York, and points north, the journey to Indian Lake involves a scenic drive through quintessential Adirondack landscapes.

A crucial and defining characteristic of Indian Lake Islands Campground is that all campsites, including the fantastic Campsite #20, are exclusively accessible by boat. This means that after driving to the Indian Lake area and accessing a boat launch (typically adjacent to the Lewey Lake Public Campground, off Route 30), campers must then use their own boat, a rental, or a canoe/kayak to reach their designated island or shoreline site. This boat-in access significantly enhances the sense of seclusion and wilderness that the campground offers.

Directions from major New York locations generally involve navigating to Route 30, which runs along Indian Lake. From the New York State Thruway (I-90), take Exit 27 at Amsterdam and head north on Route 30. From the Adirondack Northway (I-87), take Exit 23 at Warrensburg, then Route 9 North to Route 28 West towards Indian Lake Village, then a left onto Route 30. While this boat-only access requires a bit more planning and equipment, it is precisely what contributes to the remote, private, and truly wild experience that draws many New Yorkers seeking an escape from the ordinary.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) campground, Indian Lake Islands Campground, including a specific site like Campsite #20, operates under a standardized pricing structure set by the state. Therefore, it does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might (e.g., percentage discounts or buy-one-get-one deals).

However, the value proposition lies in the accessibility and unique nature of the experience at a consistent state-mandated rate.

  • Standardized State Park Rates: The camping fees are fixed by the New York State DEC. For Indian Lake Islands Campground, the general overnight camping fee is $20 per night. An additional $5 per night surcharge applies to out-of-state residents. These rates provide transparent and equitable pricing for all visitors.
  • Seasonal Operation and Booking: The campground operates during a defined season, typically from mid-May to early September (specific dates like May 16th to September 1st are common). Reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, the official booking platform for NY State Parks. For highly sought-after sites like #20, booking well in advance is essential and can be considered a "special" opportunity to secure a prime spot.
  • Inherent Value of a Unique Experience: The primary "offer" is the unparalleled experience of private, boat-access wilderness camping in the heart of the Adirondacks at a relatively affordable state park price. The natural features, such as excellent swimming spots, abundant wild blueberries, and superb fishing, are inherent "bonuses" that enhance the value of your stay without additional cost.

For the most up-to-date information on pricing, reservation availability, and specific campground rules (including any system-wide discounts like those for seniors, veterans, or accessibility passes), it is always best to consult the official New York State Parks website, the ReserveAmerica platform, or directly call the campground's project office.
