Welcome to Holder Cove Campground, a truly special and serene camping destination nestled in the heart of the Cherokee National Forest, near the charming town of Tellico Plains, Tennessee. For those in the Volunteer State seeking an authentic outdoor experience, far from the crowds and closer to nature, Holder Cove offers an ideal retreat. This small, intimate campground is perfect for campers who appreciate rustic charm and direct access to some of Tennessee's most beautiful natural features. With its prime location right on the famous Tellico River, it's a paradise for anglers and anyone looking to unwind by the soothing sounds of rushing water. While it offers a more primitive camping experience, the beauty of Holder Cove lies in its simplicity and its incredible natural surroundings, providing a genuine escape into the tranquility of the Appalachian foothills.
Holder Cove Campground is located in Tellico Plains, TN 37385, USA, deep within the Cherokee National Forest. This strategic placement offers campers an immersive experience in one of Tennessee's most scenic and biodiverse regions. Tellico Plains serves as a gateway to numerous outdoor adventures, making the campground an excellent base for exploring the stunning natural landscapes of East Tennessee.
The campground's most notable accessibility feature is its direct frontage on the Tellico River (along FS Rd 210), a renowned cold-water fishery. This allows campers to literally step out of their tents or RVs and begin fishing for trout. While the setting is secluded, it remains accessible for various vehicle types, though those with trailers are advised to note specific turn-around areas for easier site access.
For supplies, Tellico Plains, a quaint town known for its friendly atmosphere and outdoor focus, is a drive away. It's recommended to stock up on groceries and essentials before arriving at the campground, as indicated by local advice suggesting a "supermarket in Tellico Plains is quite a hike." However, there is a "country store down the road a spell" for last-minute needs. Firewood can be purchased from local vendors, with a notable recommendation for a vendor in Green Cove offering competitive prices.
Beyond the campground, the surrounding area boasts incredible attractions. The scenic Cherohala Skyway, a 43-mile National Scenic Byway, winds through breathtaking mountain vistas and is easily accessible. Bald River Falls, a stunning 90-foot waterfall, is another popular nearby attraction, perfect for a short hike or scenic view. The vast expanse of the Cherokee National Forest provides endless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. While cell service may be limited in this natural setting, it contributes to the "unplugged" experience many campers seek. Holder Cove Campground’s location is truly ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and recreational offerings of the Tennessee mountains.

Holder Cove Campground Reviews
Arrived at 4:00PM on the first Friday of October. Beautiful weekend. Only 2 out of the 7 sites were taken. By nightfall, 2 sites were still available. People with trailers need to drive a little further up to turn around to have the right angle to pull in. Fire pits needed to be cleaned out and site #7 was missing the grill grate. Short walk up the road caught some good sized trout. Overall clean & level.NOTE: Buy wood from the guy in Green Cove. $10 for a LOT of wood (half pine/half hardwood). Way better prices than in Tellico Plains.

Mar 10, 2022 · Kevin HoneycuttPretty good place to camp. Not a lot of shade, but right on the water and only 7 spots for tent or small RVs. Only $10/nite, vault toilet. Not power, no water.
Sep 25, 2017 · Jessica FTellico is awesome...the campgrounds are a bit tight but whatever, I'm camping.
