Campground ★4.0

4.0
The website is very misleading. The pool is old and crumbling and not clean. The lawn at our campsite hadn't been mowed in weeks, despite our reservations over six months in advance of our arrival. The bathrooms were in the process is being remodeled with quality material but no finish work was done. It looked diy by someone who doesn't know how to do the work. The bathrooms were not cleaned the entire week we were there. The showers had a trickle off water. It want even possible to shower. Then they learned they were having an inspection so they we're"improving" the gravel pads of the campsites around us with a loud and smelly tractor. I would never go back to this campground. - Cyndi Ross

Hocking Hills Jellystone Park Introduce

For Ohio families seeking a fun-filled and activity-packed camping getaway, Hocking Hills Jellystone Park in Nelsonville aims to provide an all-inclusive experience. This campground, part of the popular Jellystone Park franchise, is designed with families in mind, offering a variety of accommodations and a broad range of attractions and themed activities featuring beloved characters like Yogi Bear™. Located in the scenic Hocking Hills region, it positions itself as a convenient base for exploring one of Ohio's most beloved natural destinations while enjoying on-site entertainment. However, recent guest feedback suggests that while the spirit of family fun is present, potential visitors should be aware of certain aspects regarding facility maintenance and the overall experience.

Hocking Hills Jellystone Park is situated on 45 acres in the beautiful Hocking Hills region of Ohio, known for its stunning natural landscapes. The park aims to provide a family-friendly environment with a focus on activities and themed weekends, promising "all-inclusive" access to many attractions with an overnight stay. This often includes unlimited use of the swimming pool, lake, snowless tubing, pedal boats, foam parties, pedal carts, disc golf, and fishing lake (no license required for on-site fishing).

However, recent guest experiences present a mixed picture regarding the park's current condition. While some praise the "super friendly and helpful" staff and the potential for "lots of activities," others voice significant concerns. Reviews mention that the "website is very misleading" compared to the reality of certain amenities. Specifically, the pool is described as "old and crumbling and not clean," and bathrooms, though undergoing remodeling with "quality material," reportedly lacked "finish work" and "were not cleaned the entire week." Water pressure in showers was also cited as a problem, a "trickle of water," making it difficult to shower.

Furthermore, maintenance issues extend to campsites, with one reviewer noting that the "lawn at our campsite hadn't been mowed in weeks" despite a long-standing reservation. Activities like the "snowless tubing slide didn't work" due to deflated tubes, and the beach area was described as a "mudpit" with "small hard rocks" instead of sand and a lack of a clear path. Concerns about pet policies were also raised, with reports of "dogs off leash swimming by inflatables" at the beach, despite a stated "quiet leashed pets are welcome" policy for sites and certain cabins. While the park emphasizes family fun and extensive amenities, prospective visitors should be aware of these reported discrepancies and consider contacting the park directly for current conditions.

Hocking Hills Jellystone Park is located at 22245 OH-278, Nelsonville, OH 45764, USA. This places it within the heart of Ohio's celebrated Hocking Hills region, a major draw for tourism and outdoor recreation in the state. Its address along Ohio State Route 278 provides relatively straightforward access for Ohio residents traveling from various parts of the state.

For those coming from major metropolitan areas like Columbus, Cincinnati, or Cleveland, the drive to Nelsonville typically involves navigating a combination of interstates and state highways, making it a manageable journey for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation. Route 278 itself connects directly to other key roads in the Hocking Hills area, ensuring that once you're in the vicinity, finding the park is not overly complicated.

The campground's location is touted as being "conveniently located next to State Park attractions (Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, Conkles Hollow & more)," which is a significant advantage for campers eager to explore the iconic natural beauty of the region. This proximity means that popular hiking trails, stunning rock formations, and picturesque waterfalls are all within a short driving distance, allowing families to easily combine on-site park activities with off-site exploration. Additionally, the park is reportedly "8 miles from ATV trails" and near "bike trails," broadening the scope of outdoor adventures accessible from the campground. This blend of on-site family entertainment and close proximity to renowned natural attractions makes Hocking Hills Jellystone Park a well-positioned choice for Ohioans seeking a comprehensive vacation experience.

(Note: one recent review indicated issues with the snowless tubing slide not working properly).
  • Essential On-Site Facilities: The park features a "modern clean bath house" and "laundry facility," along with a "well-stocked camp store" for convenience. (However, recent feedback regarding bathroom cleanliness and shower water pressure should be considered).
  • Pet-Friendly Options: Specific cabins and all campsites allow "quiet leashed pets," making it possible for families to bring their furry companions (with associated fees for cabins).

  • Shaded Sites with Fire Rings & Picnic Tables: All camping sites provide basic essentials for a traditional camping experience.
