Hideaway Hills Introduce
Hello, fellow Michiganders! If you’re looking for a tranquil and straightforward camping experience in the Battle Creek area, Hideaway Hills offers a unique option for your next outdoor escape. While it might not boast all the bells and whistles of a resort-style park, Hideaway Hills is known for its peaceful environment, particularly appealing to those who prioritize quiet nights and a relaxed atmosphere over extensive facilities. As locals, we appreciate directness and honesty, and it’s important to understand that Hideaway Hills caters to a specific type of camper, often those with self-contained units or a preference for a more rustic experience. It’s a place where you can truly unwind and enjoy the quiet beauty of Michigan, away from the hustle and bustle.
Hideaway Hills has a history, with some online mentions suggesting it was formerly a "nude campground from the 40s through 2010," though it is no longer operated as such. This background highlights its long-standing presence in the community. Today, it generally operates as a more traditional campground, albeit one that seems to focus heavily on seasonal rentals, leaving fewer spots for weekenders, especially towards the end of the season. While some past visitors have noted areas where improvements could be made, particularly concerning the upkeep of certain facilities, a consistent positive is its quiet, no-party atmosphere at night. For those who value privacy and peaceful evenings under the Michigan sky, Hideaway Hills can certainly deliver on that promise. It's a place where you can find a truly quiet place to stay overnight, which is a significant draw for many seeking refuge from noise and crowds.
Hideaway Hills is conveniently located at 21901 Collier Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49017, USA. This address places it within easy reach for residents of Battle Creek and surrounding communities in Calhoun County and beyond. Battle Creek is a prominent city in Southwest Michigan, known for its industrial heritage and as the "Cereal City." The campground's location on Collier Avenue provides a relatively accessible route, minimizing travel time for those coming from nearby towns or even further afield within Michigan.
For those traveling by RV or car, navigating to Hideaway Hills is generally straightforward, being close enough to major routes around Battle Creek to ensure convenience. While it offers a quiet retreat, it's not so remote that you're completely cut off from necessary amenities. Nearby Battle Creek provides access to grocery stores, gas stations, dining options, and other services you might need during your stay. This balance between a secluded atmosphere and reasonable access to urban conveniences makes Hideaway Hills a practical option for Michigan campers looking for a peaceful escape that isn't too far off the beaten path. The ease of access helps ensure that more of your time can be spent enjoying your natural surroundings rather than commuting.
Based on various reviews and available public data, the services offered at Hideaway Hills lean towards a more basic, but functional, camping experience. It's important to set expectations accordingly, particularly concerning shared facilities.
- Campsite Rentals: Offers both full hookup sites (electric, water, sewer) and rustic sites without utilities. There are around 200 sites in total, with approximately 60 having hook-ups (some with sewer service).
- Seasonal Rentals: A significant portion of the campsites are rented by the season, indicating a strong community of long-term campers. This means limited availability for weekend or short-term stays, especially during peak times.
- Picnic Tables: Most, if not all, campsites are likely equipped with picnic tables for outdoor dining.
- Fire Rings: Designated fire rings are generally available at campsites for safe and enjoyable campfires.
- Dump Station: A sanitary dump station is available for RVs to empty their tanks.
- Pets Welcome: The campground is generally pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to join the trip (specific policies and restrictions may apply, it’s always advisable to confirm directly).
- Basic Utilities: Sites with hookups typically offer 30-amp electric service, water, and some with sewer connections.
- On-site Management: There is staff present to assist with check-ins and address concerns, noted by reviewers as friendly.

- Privacy (when available): If you manage to secure a spot where neighbors aren't too close, some sites offer a good sense of privacy, especially if the park isn't fully packed.
- Pleasant Grounds: The overall grounds are described as "very gorgeous" with "nicely groomed grass," indicating a pleasant natural environment.
- Friendly Staff: Several reviews mention that the staff is "friendly," contributing positively to the overall experience despite other potential challenges.
- Ideal for Self-Contained Units: Campers with their own toilets, showers, and other amenities in their RVs or campers will likely find Hideaway Hills more comfortable, as this mitigates reliance on park facilities which have received mixed reviews.
- Good Overnight Stop: For those needing a quiet place to stay overnight while traveling, its peaceful nature makes it a suitable option.
- Seasonal Community: The large number of seasonal sites suggests a stable community of long-term campers, which can contribute to a consistent and familiar atmosphere.

Hideaway Hills Reviews
The park was already closing down for the season so the indoor pool and hot tub were both closed. We never did find the bathrooms, so it was a good thing we had our own toilet. The showers were cold. There were only a couple of campsites open for weekenders and because the rest were rented by the season. The website has the good Sam logo on it but they are not part of the good Sam or coast to coast groups. The phone number on the website is wrong. It was a place to stay overnight and quiet. That's the only good thing to say about it.
Sep 19, 2017 · Cathy HughesFound out this was formerly a nude campground from the 40s through 2010. Nothing wrong with that, no longer operated as one haha! The grounds are very gorgeous...the grass nicely groomed, but spots were not clearly marked and packed tightly for full hookups. Fortunately no one stayed next to us.The staff was friendly and it was perfectly quiet at night. No partiers and no issues. Bugs weren't bad but we were prepared after reading reviews in the area.Honestly the bathrooms are one of the worst I've come across at campgrounds. They haven't been scrubbed good in a while. I have a toilet in my camper though... Showers left a bit to be desired too. The water was hot, but again could have been scrubbed better. The pool had green water and no way I would let my kids in it! The hot tub was broken... an older broken hot tub was out by the garbage which really makes me wonder what happens to them. The buildings were also run down and not taken care of. Edit: upon leaving and dumping my tanks at my full hookup site...the black water overflowed from the ground. Last straw. Won't go back here.Looking at pictures from 10 years ago online, it's clear the current owners are not putting any money into this place. It's their choice on how they operate it. It could be so much better if kept better. If you like privacy and don't use park facilities this isn't a bad place. It wouldn't be my first choice in the area though.
Aug 23, 2017 · Joe TimoneVery peaceful campground and the owners and staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely setting amid rolling hills with a couple of ponds with boats available to use as well as an indoor heated pool. The rates are very reasonable and they even have a frizby golf course on the property. Lovely place for walking on the trails in the woods.
Jul 21, 2015 · Sara DunhamI wish I could leave no stars but that's not an option. This place really only allows friends and family friends to be here they're not friendly they have a white husky that runs around tries to break in your camper or tent eats your food actually attacked my friends dog over a piece of food we were eating. They have nobody running the check in house and they haven't for the past years so every time I go there I have to hunt down someone to pay to swim now all the sudden I'm not allowed to swim here they didn't give me any reason why. They have 10 different kids riding around on quads all day so when you're trying to pull in they're blocking the driveway and expect you to move your vehicle. I have been here multiple times with my kids and every time they have something else to complain about when they do not watch anybody or any of the animals running around and now have a problem with me coming here not to mention every time I have came here with an African-American they look at me sideways and always stop us like we're not supposed to be here you're only allowed to go there if you pay seasonal.Wow what a place.I do not recommend
Jul 02, 2020 · Cassidy BushI had nothing but negative treatment from management. As we were pulling in to our lot to put our belongings in our camper that we had just gotten the harassment started. And they are not handicapped assessable and discriminate against children with disabilities. Facilities are filthy and unsanitary.
