Hampton Beach State Park Campground Introduce
For New Hampshire residents dreaming of waking up to the sound of ocean waves and having the beach just steps from their doorstep, Hampton Beach State Park Campground offers an unparalleled coastal RV camping experience. As the only RV park directly on the New Hampshire coast, this campground provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Hampton Beach while enjoying the comforts of your recreational vehicle. It’s a prime spot for those who cherish ocean access, scenic views, and the lively energy of a classic New England beach town.
Hampton Beach State Park itself is a jewel of the Granite State, encompassing a beautiful stretch of sandy beach at the mouth of the Hampton River. The campground is specifically designed for RVs, offering full hookups and a convenient base from which to explore the surrounding attractions. While one reviewer noted the "dirt/sand parking lot to camp in" and the lack of a traditional bathhouse at the campground itself, the undeniable draw is the "Nice location" and direct proximity to the ocean and all that Hampton Beach has to offer.
It's important for prospective campers to understand the unique nature of this campground. It caters to RVs that are self-contained, meaning you bring your own facilities. This allows for an exceptionally close-to-the-beach experience that many traditional campgrounds simply cannot offer. Despite some logistical considerations regarding parking and limited on-site shower facilities within the campground area (though amenities are available in the broader state park), the magnetic pull of being right on the New Hampshire coast makes Hampton Beach State Park Campground a highly sought-after destination for local RV enthusiasts. Imagine quick morning strolls on the sand, easy access to swimming, and the convenience of being able to retreat to your RV after a day of sun and surf.
Hampton Beach State Park Campground is ideally situated at NH-1A, Hampton, NH 03842, USA. This places it directly on the stunning New Hampshire coastline, at the very mouth of the Hampton River. Its unparalleled location makes it the only RV park in New Hampshire with direct oceanfront access, a significant draw for campers from across the state.
For New Hampshire residents, accessing the campground is straightforward. NH-1A, also known as Ocean Boulevard, is the scenic coastal route that runs along the state's picturesque shoreline. This means that travelers from southern New Hampshire can reach it easily via I-95, connecting directly to Route 1A. For those coming from central or northern parts of the state, well-maintained state routes and highways provide clear paths to the coast, leading directly to Hampton.
The campground's proximity to the main Hampton Beach area is a huge advantage. It's often just a short walk or bike ride to the bustling boardwalk, where you'll find a wide array of restaurants, shops, arcades, and entertainment options. This convenience means campers can enjoy the lively atmosphere and attractions without having to drive or find parking in the busiest parts of the beach town. While the campground itself is right on the ocean, it's located at the southern end of the main beach area, often providing a slightly less frenetic atmosphere than the very center of the boardwalk. This balance of direct beach access and proximity to amenities, combined with the ease of navigation on major New Hampshire roads, makes Hampton Beach State Park Campground incredibly accessible and appealing for Granite Staters looking for a coastal escape.
Hampton Beach State Park Campground is designed exclusively for self-contained RVs, meaning its services are tailored to support this type of camping. While it offers essential hookups, it is important to note the specific nature of its facilities, as highlighted by past visitors.
- Full Hookup Sites: All 28 campsites at Hampton Beach State Park Campground provide full hookups, including 20/30/50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Campers are required to be able to connect to all three services.
- No Tents or Pop-ups: This campground strictly prohibits tents and pop-up campers; only fully self-contained RVs are permitted.
- No Bathhouse Facilities at Campground: A critical point for campers to note is that there are "No restroom or shower facilities available at the campground" itself, as stated on official booking sites and echoed in reviews. Campers must use their RV's onboard facilities.
- Restrooms and Cold Showers in Main State Park Area: While not directly within the RV campground, the main Hampton Beach State Park complex, which is a short walk away, does offer public "comfort stations" with restrooms and outdoor cold showers. Visitors should be aware that these can be busy, as one reviewer mentioned, "There was not enough showers to clean up and wash the free sand away… We ended up waiting for 5 people before 6 of us got our turn."
- Fire Rings and Grates: Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, a fire ring, and a grate, allowing for outdoor cooking and traditional campfires.
- Picnic Area: The broader state park includes picnic areas.
- Park Store: A park store is available within the Hampton Beach State Park complex for convenience and supplies.
- Dump Station: A camper dump station is available within the park.
- First Aid Station: Located within the main Seashell complex for emergencies.
- Direct Oceanfront Location: This is the paramount feature. Hampton Beach State Park Campground is the only RV park situated directly on the New Hampshire coast, offering unparalleled access to the beach and ocean just steps from your RV.
- Full Hookup RV Sites: All 28 sites provide complete 20/30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, making for a comfortable and convenient stay for self-contained recreational vehicles.
- Proximity to Hampton Beach Boardwalk: Campers are within easy walking distance of the lively Hampton Beach boardwalk, offering access to numerous restaurants, shops, arcades, and entertainment venues, including the Seashell Stage with free concerts and events.
- Scenic Views: Many sites, particularly those in the first row, offer "Awesome view!" of the inlet/jetty at the mouth of the Hampton River and the Atlantic Ocean. Even the second row of sites can provide glimpses of the coastal beauty.
- Fishing and Beach Activities: The direct beach access allows for immediate enjoyment of swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, and excellent surf fishing opportunities right from the park's stretch of sand or nearby jetty rocks.
- Wildlife Observation: While the campground is an "open" layout, the coastal environment still offers opportunities for birdwatching and observing marine life.
- Pet-Friendly During Off-Season: While generally a non-pet campground during peak season, pets are permitted between September 14 and October 31, extending camping opportunities for New Hampshire pet owners.
- No-Frills, Direct Access: As one reviewer noted, it's a "no-frills, no trees campground. But, oh - the location!" This emphasizes that the primary highlight is the immediate and unrestricted access to the beach and ocean, ideal for those prioritizing coastal activities over shaded, private sites.
- Small and Manageable: With only 28 sites, the campground is relatively small, which can contribute to a more manageable and perhaps quieter experience compared to larger, sprawling parks, especially during the shoulder seasons.
As a New Hampshire State Park campground, Hampton Beach State Park Campground primarily operates on a fixed fee schedule rather than offering frequent "promotions" in the commercial sense. However, there are a few considerations that could be seen as advantageous for New Hampshire residents, and important booking details to note.
The most significant "offer" is the inherent value of being able to camp directly on the New Hampshire coast, a unique opportunity that few other campgrounds can provide. While the nightly rate is on the higher side for a state park, often around $70 per night for an RV site with full hookups, this price reflects the premium location. As one reviewer aptly put it, "$70 a night. A little high, but we'll worth the cost to be right on Hampton Beach."
New Hampshire State Parks typically offer a discount for New Hampshire residents aged 65 or older, providing $5 off per site per night. However, it is crucial to note that the Hampton Beach RV Campground (and Ellacoya RV Campground) are specifically excluded from this senior discount, as stated on the NH State Parks website. This means all campers, regardless of residency or age, pay the standard published rate for RV sites.
Reservations are highly competitive, especially for the peak summer season (Memorial Day through Columbus Day). Sites are available via lottery and can be reserved up to 11 months in advance. Many campers report that sites "go FAST," so early booking is not just recommended, but essential. There may also be an "overflow" or "dry camping" area available on a first-come, first-served basis at a lower rate (e.g., $40/night), but these sites typically have no services, and availability is not guaranteed.
Therefore, for New Hampshire locals, the "special offer" is less about a reduced price and more about the opportunity to secure a highly coveted spot at a premier coastal location. Booking strategically and well in advance is the key to taking advantage of this unique camping experience.

- Online Reservations: The primary method for booking campsites at Hampton Beach State Park Campground is through the official online reservation system, typically managed by ReserveAmerica. - Email for NH Parks (general inquiries): nhparks@dncr.nh.gov (for general questions, not specific campground reservations).
Please note that while the park office phone number is provided, direct booking through the phone may be limited, and the online reservation system is often the most efficient way to check availability and secure a site. Given the popularity, especially during summer, early booking is crucial.
For New Hampshire residents, Hampton Beach State Park Campground offers a truly distinctive and highly sought-after camping experience that is perfectly tailored to those who prioritize immediate access to our beautiful coastline. As the sole RV park directly on the New Hampshire coast, its location alone makes it an incredibly suitable choice for locals looking to enjoy the beach without extensive travel. Imagine the convenience of rolling out of your RV and stepping directly onto the sand, or having the vibrant Hampton Beach boardwalk just a short stroll away – this level of accessibility is a major advantage for our community.
While some traditional camping amenities like extensive bathhouses might not be on-site within the RV campground itself, the full hookup sites cater perfectly to the self-contained nature of RV camping. This allows for a comfortable and self-sufficient stay, providing all the necessary utilities (water, sewer, electricity) right at your site. For New Hampshire RV owners, this means a hassle-free setup and the ability to maximize their time enjoying the ocean and surrounding attractions. The "no-frills, no trees" aspect, while different from a wooded campground, is precisely what allows for the stunning ocean views and direct beach access that define this unique experience.
The lively atmosphere of Hampton Beach provides endless entertainment options for families and individuals alike. From swimming and sunbathing to enjoying the arcade, local seafood, and free concerts at the Seashell Stage, there's always something to do. The fact that this is all within easy walking distance from your RV site is a significant benefit, eliminating the stress of finding parking in busy beach areas. While the nightly rate might be higher than inland state parks, the premium beachfront location, combined with the convenience and the unique experience it offers, represents excellent value for New Hampshire residents seeking a memorable coastal getaway. For a quintessential New Hampshire beach vacation from the comfort of your RV, Hampton Beach State Park Campground is an undeniable top choice.

Hampton Beach State Park Campground Reviews
Nice location. But with no bathhouse, just a dirt/sand parking lot to camp in and at $70/night, this would not be my first choice to camp again.
May 14, 2025 · David HrivnakI loved the sand, the water was cold but it's okay, the weather that day was good. Our toddlers got to walk, run, and enjoy the beach. However, there were just some frustrating situations like parking restrictions and shower. There was not enough showers to clean up and wash the free sand away 😂... We ended up waiting for 5 people before 6 of us got our turn. The parking time allowed was only till 8pm so, you gotta roll or your vehicle will be towed. On our way out, it happened that one of our toddlers got a skin rash and needed to clean up more, so there was this old man who manages the parking lot, came to us to let us know the rules with a very authoritative inflection and said, I don't care about your troubles, parking is only till 8pm. It's either you roll or get towed. Hence, our family just dealt with our toddler's need as fast as we could and drove away. We prayed for the old man to overcome whatever difficulties he's experiencing in life 🙏
Jul 11, 2023 · Nemia Bigata SkrockiBeautiful view of the ocean with close access to a very nice beach area. Walking or biking distance to many attractions. The campground has full hookups and is popular because of the location. The campground could be cleaner and better maintained. Biggest con: the campground and beach say no dogs, people ignore that, have them in the campground and on the beach and don’t clean up after them.
May 04, 2023 · J ListI have been visiting here for 40 years. A great spot of sand beach close to home. The beach extends for miles and provides lots of walking. Sunbathing, swimming if you are brave to venture into the ocean and the cold water.I enjoy the fresh salt air, sand dunes and sun. There is also a camping area for RVs but no shade if you are into that kind d of camping.
Apr 03, 2023 · Raymond GordonLocation, location, location!!!Full hookups. Right on the water. No restrooms, no showers, rocky ground. Very RV only.Bridge construction was going on... extremely noisy. Bright lights on the bridge.
