California is renowned for its diverse landscapes, and the redwood forests hold a special place in our hearts. Grizzly Creek Redwoods Campground allows you to experience this grandeur up close, providing "nice campsites" that are "roomy and clean." It’s a perfect spot for families, solo travelers, or groups looking for a blend of natural immersion and accessible facilities. Let's delve into what makes Grizzly Creek Redwoods Campground a compelling choice for locals seeking a rejuvenating outdoor escape in the Golden State.
Grizzly Creek Redwoods Campground is conveniently located at 16718 CA-36, Carlotta, CA 95528, USA. This address places it directly along California State Route 36 (CA-36), a state highway that traverses through scenic parts of Humboldt County. Its roadside location makes it exceptionally accessible for most vehicles, including RVs and trailers, unlike many more primitive backcountry camps.
The campground is nestled within Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, a smaller but equally enchanting component of California’s famed redwood park system. For those traveling from Southern California or the Bay Area, the drive typically involves taking U.S. Highway 101 north and then connecting to CA-36, which leads directly to the park entrance.
While the direct highway access is a major convenience, it's worth noting a common observation from visitors: "the noisy highway that goes right next to it. Large logging and dump trucks rolling all night long." This indicates that while accessibility is excellent, light sleepers might consider bringing earplugs. Despite the road noise, the direct access to major redwoods and recreational opportunities from your campsite remains a significant advantage for families and those with less rugged vehicles. The ease of reaching the campground makes it a practical choice for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation amidst California's iconic trees.

Grizzly Creek Redwoods Campground Reviews
Would be a wonderful campground except for the noisy highway that goes right next to it. Large logging and dump trucks rolling all night long. Had to wear ear plugs to sleep. Other than that there is a nice swimming hole and great hikes through ancient giant redwoods. Campsites are roomy and clean. Coin op showers.
Sep 04, 2020 · Doug BGrizzly Creek has nice campsites, okay coin pay showers, and also has enough hiking and swimming for day use. We stopped by for a shower, picnic and a walk over the summer bridge and through the redwoods.
Aug 09, 2021 · Philip CohenThis is a beautiful spot. It is right next to highway 36 so car noise can be bothersome. I tuned it out. The creek is clear and cool. The trails are close and easy walks through the forest, the old growth trees are further down the road at Cheatham Grove. Shower was hot and worked well. Beware of the payphone. My 30 second call was $20.30 on my cc which took a 20 minute call to have reversed. Total scam from the phone company WiMacTel.
Aug 14, 2021 · Nelson EarlBeautiful campground right on the river with flushing toilets and showers the only bad is its also right on highway 36
Sep 08, 2023 · Ty WhiteOne of the worst campsites I’ve ever been to. They situated ton of campsites right next to the highway where cars, trucks and semis full of lumber are blowing past you at 60+ right over your head. It not only felt dangerous but also incredibly loud and not relaxing at all. I decided to leave due to these issues. I also think other campsites farther away will face loud vehicle noise going by due to how close the entire campground is to the highway. Do not recommend this place at all.
