Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area Reviews
I read the other reviews that were harsh on the planning of this campground but they were mostly about horses that I have 0 knowledge about. We car-camped here on our way to the whiteface mountains (1 hr from here). I would give it a 5 of 5 for our stay. There were employees at the front office when we checked in just before 9pm which gave us confidence. Restrooms were very clean and closer to each campsite. The campsite we booked was drive-in. There were other sites that were walk-in as well, so if you are planning to do car camping, you need to pay attention on this. The campsite was very good and clean too. There was a small playground as well. The place was good for stargazing as well.
Sep 30, 2024 · Sriram JegadeeshMy first and probably last time here. The campgrounds themselves are well taken care of, bathrooms are clean and the playgrounds are nice for the kids. Now for the person ( rude little punk) working behind the desk when we checked in, get off your phone and stop being so rude. Actually act like you enjoy what you are doing. If not move on to the next thing. The State of NY spent $20 Million on this campground and you cant even have HOT water at the showers? Then you want to charge $14.99 for three pieces of wet firewood. Come on are you serious? I'd suggest not camping next to one of the Pavilions, like site T91, or you will have to deal with obnoxious people screaming and yelling. The sites themselves are level and actually nice. The tent sites have a place for your tent.....but my 10x14 would not fit on the spot for the tent. I feel this is becoming more of a party campground so I will more than likely stay away.
May 27, 2025 · Richard MaxwellMy new favorite DEC campground to stay at! Stayed one night here and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere, architecture and layout of the campground. It's brand new and has the newest amenities. Super clean facilities and restrooms, very spacious (wish there was more shaded tent sites though!) and quiet and peaceful.I felt like I was camping out in Montana or the wild west, they sure did an awesome job replicating Frontier Town's vibe and matching the style of the former theme park.
Jun 04, 2023 · Sam CherubinFrontier Town Campground is one of the best looking and most modern campgrounds in NY State. The campsites they have are larger and roomier than any other campground I have been too. They also go to out of there way to accommodate people with horses. The campgrounds were built on what was left of the former Frontier Town amusement park which closed in 1998. Many buildings throughout the campground are built to emulate the Western-style buildings of the former Frontier Town. Roads throughout the campground also have Western themed names. As a day use facility you can hike or walk the Pioneer Trail that goes through the camp. The trail is built for both people and horses. It is an easy trail that is not very challenging. There are places to picnic along it. Part of the Schroon River is located in the campground, not sure if any of it was suitable for fishing.Location wise there wasn't too much around Frontier Town. There is a brewpub near the entrance and another restaurant a few miles away. Unfortunately, the campground was also was loaded with mosquitoes. Not many people were camping there when I went and there were many empty campsites. If going just for day use they offer a few things to do, but not as much as other NY State campgrounds. Go to the campground's webpage to book a campsite if interested.
Jul 27, 2023 · Ryan MazierskiThree-night stay. Two sites, #77 and #78. Tent camping. The bad: the help was unfriendly, uncaring and borderline rude. Specifically one employee who appears to be the manager. I understand that his job is to enforce the campground rules, he seems 100% committed to making sure every camper adheres to all without wavering. He is not in any way understanding nor does he offer suggestions or alternative ways to solve issues. This is the only reason I don’t give ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.The good: everything else. We loved this place! The park is newish, everything is in good condition, bathroom/shower facilities much nicer than any other we have experienced. Flat sites with pea gravel surfaces. Perfect draining, never puddles. No roots. The sites are very spaced out and there is a lot of forest between each site. Because of this spacing, you can’t easily hear your neighbors. The kids found a fun swimming hole on the Schroon River which was a plus. Great playgrounds and a very bike-rideable park including the Pioneer Trail which wraps around the hole park. One thing to consider if you are a tent camper: the sites are expansive with significant opening to the skies so you may be craving the shade if you are staying during the long summer days. Make sure you bring an ez-up.
